The best way to describe the decor of this restaurant/cocktail bar is that it's a classy dive. The place is surrounded by books as well as a baby grand piano, however, some of the walls are missing and the furniture has some age and patina.
The cocktails here are great and so too is the food. I recommend the following:
Drinks:
– Spicy Sailor (Not spicy at all, very refreshing, similar to a Moscow Mule but with Rum)
– Violette Brouillard – (Gin, lemon, mint and egg white)
Food:
– Trout for Two – $42 (Delicious trout fish with roasted pears, quince and carrots)
– Timballo – $19 (Mashed potato, mushroom goodness, kind of like a shepard's pie without the pie)
This place is so lovely!! I went there with a few friends on a Saturday afternoon, and we were all very very happy: the general atmosphere, decor, garden, and drinks – everything was special.
When you enter you will get into an intimate bar with bookcases and old publications, a piano, and various seating areas with couches and small tables Parisian cafe style.
If you keep walking you get into the garden outdoor area, with lots of flowers, vintage decorations, and seats.
The menu have plenty of cocktails options, wine and beers. I got a Blood Berry really delicious, served in a jar glass. My friends got beers. We checked the menu but we were not in the mood for food. It looks tasty thou, so kind of want to come back to enjoy the sun on the backyard, while tasting more food and drinks!
What a beautiful place. Located on the farthest edge of Greenpoint almost near Long Island City is Milk and Roses. Enter into a beautiful room with a weathered baby grand piano and books from floor to ceiling. But oh, it get's better – head outside into the garden and you will feel as if you have stepped into a magical oasis. I came with a group of friends and we all came for drinks but I would love to come back here for dinner. This place is so romantic and would be great to host an intimate event, or if you are a guy, a great place to take your special lady.
This place is so lovely!! From the decor to the foods to the staff everything was great. We had a lot of Americanos and bacon and it felt so comfortable to just sit around with my friends for a couple of hours. I wish this place was closer to where I live, but I definitely want to come back.
Great brunch with awesome service….we had the steak and Cheese sandwiches PRIX-FIXE with unlimited mimosas…but prior to that we had the plain and chocolate croissants…which were baked on the premise. We will definitely be back!!!
Couldn't have had a better time here. Bright, sunny day, open porch, brunch/booze. The back porch was really cool, very open with a ton of sunlight. The service was phenomenal. We got the bottomless mimosa brunch and our server truly defined that. The food was great although they were in menu transition and some stuff was starred, others were crossed out, overall wasn't clear what we could and couldn't order. Although everything we did order was phenomenal, cough BLT, cough. We walked over from LIC and would absolutely come again.
I was so looking forward to brunch at Milk and Roses but it was nothing special. First of all, half the garden was taken up a bridal shower. Lovely spot for shower but it was kind of annoying as we'd made a special trip to Greenpoint on a sunny Sunday in order to eat in the backyard. The food was also REALLY nothing special – I ordered the egg sandwich which theoretically came with cheese, and asked to add avocado – maybe it was a communication issue but I got one tiny slice of avocado instead of cheese. The eggs were also supposed to be scrambled but came out omelet style. And the service – the service! I thought maybe we'd actually flown to France instead of trained to Greenpoint. To be fare, the poor waiter was handling the entire place himself but even so – aside from the party, it really wasn't that crowded. He just seemed incredibly absent minded and would remember he owed us another round of mimosas as he passed our table and then forget by the time he put down the food at another table. I think we were there for over 2 hours and were probably done with our meal in 40 minutes…it took that long to pay. The unlimited mimosas were nice but they don't make up for everything else (particularly since we waited so long for our refills.). There are other nice outdoor brunch spots–I would not return.
Milk and Roses is a rare find. I rarely come across an establishment that translates so beautifully from coffee shop to restaurant quite the way Milk and Roses does.
I'm almost afraid to review it because I love how many seats are available by outlets on a lazy afternoon. This is the kind of place I can easily see myself lounging around in during a "work from home" weekday. I can order a coffee, a croissant, some lunch, another coffee – and then right around 5 PM effortlessly switch to a glass of wine, all while happily typing away on the free wifi sitting on an old school plush booth surrounded by this beautiful interior that blends of an old library / barn – feel in this beautiful way that makes sense.
A) Their cocktails are phenomenal
B) Their menu items are beautifully plated
And oh man that Avocado toast- nothing makes me fall in love with a place more than when I cut into a poached egg and that yolk spills out onto a perfectly crusty slice of bread like food porn. My one gripe was that the avocado on the avocado toast was not seasoned at all.
Overall though – such a rare find and definitely worth the trek into north Greenpoint.
