I went here last night (Thurs) with my 2 girlfriends around 9/9:30pm. This is definitely one of my new favorite spots! Great for drinks or drinks/food. Ideal for a small group if you want to grab a table or spot at the bar. Really good dim-lit ambiance with good. chill/funky music.
OVERVIEW:
-On the smaller side – a few tables and stools at the bar.
-Ambiance is great – really cool ceiling installation and nice decor.
-Check out the bathroom – The mirror is actually a TV screen, which was kind of weird/trippy. Think of it more like an art installation – we were also assured the video was not recording!
DRINKS:
-Bottle of La Posta Tinto Red Blend (the malbec): So good! We had to get a second bottle after the first. The owners curate the wines so that different malbecs, merlots, etc. are switched out from time to time
FOOD:
-Brussel Sprouts: Amazing. These were so delicious and crispy. Super flavorful and cooked with pure maple syrup and paprika. They also give a large portion size, so you can easily share with ~4-6 people.
-Truffle Fries: Great! Perfect crunchiness and full of flavor.
SERVICE:
-Truly great service. Alexander was so personable and friendly.
Highly recommended! I also heard the burgers are really good. Definitely coming back ASAP.
Prices are a little high for what you get, here, and I'm not sure why. Although they seem to have some interesting choices on their menu, I played it safe and got their famous N&F burger.
It was tasty, but not groundbreaking. I was hoping in something more unique, or at least more creativity from the chef (considering the price). Still a good burger, though.
The Smuttynose they currently have is bomb.
I love this spot. This place speaks to me on all levels. Probably because I ended my 31st birthday here one night last Fall and it was exactly how a birthday should end . . . great food, great booze, dope scene, fabulous service, and great music selection to add to the already top-notch ambiance.
The kind of place you can kick it at during the middle of the day. It's also the type of place where you can start your night out or end it.
Really cool spot for a drink or dinner!
It's quite small, but super cool inside. The ambience was pretty chill but super trendy. There aren't a ton of tables, but we walked in on a Friday night and got a table pretty quickly.
The food was awesome. Burgers and brussel sprouts were amazing. Definitely recommend. Plus there's an extensive beer and cocktail menu which is always a plus.
The staff is also great. Very helpful and fun, and even let us taste various cocktails. Delicious.
There are only pros, no cons:
-Wu Tang shot (don't ask, just do it)
-Sexy playlists
-Friendly staff
-Crazy creepy ass TV monitors in the bathroom
-Get drunk and look up (again, don't ask, just do it)
-Tater tots made from trout and covered in fish roe (AMAZEBALLS)
-Perfect Manhattans
Near to my heart, never far from my mind. D'aww…
I stopped at Miller's Near & Far on a whim with two of my girlfriends one Thursday night. We were looking for a low key wine bar where we could possibly grab a bite to eat – and Miller's offered all of this. We split two bottles of red and shared the Brussel Sprouts and Turffle Fries. This was the perfect amount to share with 3 of us. The Brussel Sprouts were AMAZING. The manager, Alexander, was telling us that they're made with a special mixture of maple syrup and paprika. To die. You must order.
That leads me to my next point of how friendly the manager was. He came over and introduced himself to us, shared his wine preference, chatted with us about the food, and even gave us complimentary tequila shots. He was super personable and wanted to make sure we had a great night. I will be back for sure!
Wow…the Reviews were right on this place. The N&F Burger was Excellent!
Finding a perfect burger is like dating…everyone has a type, and what I find attractive, other people might not.
So, the problem with ratings on burger places is that everyone has their own ideal of what a perfect burger is…some like more meat, some like more bread, some like lots of sauces, etc, etc.
For me, I like more meat, less bread, but a warm or toasted bun, and more simple. There's nothing that annoys me more than a huge burger, but only cause the bun is thicker than the meat. So, I like a thin bun, thick meat, high quality cheese, and not too many condiments/sauce.
We ordered:
N&F Burger: 2 beef patties from Pat LaFrieda (a NYC institution/butcher shop since 1922), American cheese (but high a quality one), lettuce, pickles, onions, special sauce (light and not overpowering), on a sesame seed bun. OUTSTANDING!
Bialy Burger: 1 beef patty from Pat LaFrieda, bacon, cheddar cheese on a toasted kossar's bialy with a sunny side up egg on top. GOOD, but too much bread for me.
French Fries: thin cut fries as you get in Paris…or McDonald's lol…EXCELLENT!
We didn't get to try the Smoked Trout Tater Tots or Brussels Sprouts, as we were full from having Dim Sum earlier that day, but they look amazing, and will try next time.
Being hungover from the night before, we didn't have drinks, but the Cocktail List looked great and the Wine List is simple, but good, especially for a burger joint. Just 3 whites and 3 reds, but from good regions.
Ambiance was awesome – play great music, cool people, bathroom was really unique, and overall just a great vibe/feel to the place.
We went at an odd hour, around 4pm on a Sunday, so we didn't have to wait for a table, but I heard the waits can be as long as 2 hours at night or during peak brunch.
Overall, I really liked Miller's and highly recommend the N&F Burger. Definitely a great burger, at least for me that is.
My first impression from the outside looking in was that this place would be large and spacious. After seeing inside, it isn't particularly small but there aren't many tables either. Fear not, there are additional seats at the bar and the counter along the window.
Fortunately for a Saturday night there wasn't a wait time to be seated, versus someplace else I had first stopped at which had an hour wait time. Nearly every seat was filled and with both the music and crowd combined it was rather loud.
The menu has a good selection of burgers and another decent selection of alternatives/appetizers.
I ordered the N&F Burger (first thing on the menu) and got it with sweet potato fries. The burger itself was cooked just right and very juicy. It came with the standard toppings like cheese, lettuce, pickles, onion and sauce. Overall it was satisfying and worth a solid 4 out of 5 rating. The sweet potato fries were thin cut and had more salt than I've seen on other sweet potato fries which actually didn't take away from the flavor – also enjoyable.
I had a bite of the veggie burger (second thing on the burger side of the menu) and this too also deserves at least a 4 of 5. The mushrooms especially add great texture and flavor with each bite. Like the sweet potato fries, the regular fries are also thin cut and with the right amount of crisp without a burnt edge in sight.
Both servers we had tonight were also pretty awesome. The great service here is a huge plus in addition to the food.
