I have been so excited for Mimi's to add a location in Manhattan! This is a perfect addition to 14th street.
Mimi's a healthy option that won't disappoint. The interior is really cute, and they offer water infused with cucumber in these pretty blue and white tin cups. I chose to try the lemon sparkling soda- amazing and so refreshing!
They have every thing from hummus plates, to pita wraps and bowls. I opted to the chicken shawarma bowl. Wow, not only was this delicious but also beautiful. I could taste how fresh everything was with the mint, parsley and red onion. It made me feel good while I was eating it- a very satisfying dish.
I can't wait to go back and try more things! I think my next visit will probably be pickup on my way home from work.
We split the trout dish (excellent flavor, great crisp skin), the chicken shawarma (ditto on the flavor, crazy juicy) and labane (nice, thick and sour). As you can see from the parentheticals, it was all quite excellent.
Mimi's Hummus is a great lunch addition for the neighborhood! I've eaten here three times now and it's been consistently fresh and delicious. Staff has always been exceptionally friendly, too.
First, I tried the shawarma bowl, which was a filling portion of rice and marinated chicken in a yogurt sauce. While excellent, I found the dish a bit too monotonous…I experienced the same feelings the next time when I ordered the hummus bowl with falafel. Again, the taste was wonderful and it was a hearty portion but I felt that by the time I was halfway through, I was bored and craving different flavors.
Which is the reason I was so thrilled to find that now Mimi's is serving a lunch special! $12 for your choice of bowl (including chicken shawarma, beef or lentil/bulgar mix) and side vegetable (such as spiced carrots, cauliflower, beets, salad, etc), served with a small hummus and warm, fluffy pita. It's the best of all worlds – you can now sample it all! I will definitely return for the excellent lunch special. Highly recommended!
My low expectations for this spot were totally blown away! Across from KFC and a few doors down from IHOP, Mimi's Hummus opened three weeks ago in a charming, fresh space with friendly staff and ample seating. A welcome addition to a forlorn food block on 14th St.
Prices are a little steep for the area, before you come make your peace with the fact they are charging restaurant prices for takeout food. Thankfully my meal here was better than most restaurants in the area and very much worth it.
Chicken shawarma bowl ($14) is a generous pile of dark meat chicken, braised onions, fresh cilantro, amba and a splash of yogurt over seasoned rice. The chicken was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor – we tasted turmeric and lemon and enjoyed every bite.
Falafel hummus ($9) comes with white or whole wheat pita. They fry the falafel to order and serve the pita warm, these touches make a big difference. The hummus itself was delightful and plated beautifully with the tahini, hummus and olive oil swirled across the bowl and sprinkled with fresh herbs.
Tasty green hot sauce and cucumber-infused water are available for self service. The staff checked to make sure we liked everything. The decor is tasteful. The bathroom, spotless. Needless to say I'll be coming back soon, this place is bomb and I hope they maintain these high standards for the long term.
This place is wonderful! A friend told me about it. Contrary to my initial belief, you can have a nice casual sit down brunch here. Which is what my fiancé and I did on Sat around 3pm. It was still busy – and the place is small, so one waiter but he did a good job tending to everyone. Decor is fresh and cute.
For food – of course we tried the traditional hummus. It was not creamy or tahini-y much, had whole chickpea atop with lots of garlic. A good and purist take. The accompanying whole wheat pita was fluffy and delicious.
My fiancé has the beef kebab plate which takes about 10-15 min to prepare but delicious. The kebab was well spiced, and had a nice jalapeño kick on half a hummus with fresh grilled onion.
I then had the lamb sausage shashuka which they only do for weekend brunch I think. This egg in tomato sauce is always delicious. The lamb sausage was ok, could have had more. I think I like the Shashuka best at Balaboosta. My dish came with market salad which was tahini over slaw and tomato. Good.
They have really awesome veggie sides here – from roasted beets to grilled cauliflower. Definitely want to try these and more for dinner.
I would recommend. Fresh healthy authentic food for about $20 pp.
I was having some serious shawarma withdrawals. This place hit the spot. Even though we took the order to go, the dine in option was extremely welcoming. The area was clean, and the waitresses were friendly. I ordered the chicken shwamarwa on a falafel and it did not disappoint. With the right amount of spiciness and the amount of flavor, it made it all worth while.
In total, for two orders we paid about $25. Not bad for a well prepared dish with delicious flavors. Next time, I look forward to dining in!
