Came here for appetizers and drinks with some of my girlfriends for Sunday Funday. We sat outside to eat. I was excited when I saw they had the west coast lobster roll (a lobster roll with avocado and bacon with Parmesan truffle fries). Of course, they were out of it. I went with my second choice, the avocado quesadilla and added grilled chicken to it. It was good. Not what I wanted, but didn't disappoint. One of the girls went with spinach artichoke dip and BBQ wings while another got fried calamari and buffalo. The BBQ wings had a lot of sauce and I don't really like spinach artichoke dip so won't bother critiquing. The fried calamari was good. Didn't taste the buffalo, but judging from the BBQ it's safe to say it was super saucy as well. One of the girls and I both got frozen margaritas which were good. Another got a mimosa which she was not a fan of because of the choice of orange juice. Two of my other friends split the guacamole which was okay to me, but they weren't a big fan. I've had better (more avocado and more flavorful), but I wouldn't say it was bad. The girls also split a pitcher of the white peach sangria, but they thought it was just juice and complained several times. Overall, the food was decent. After we went inside. It was loud and rowdy due to the football game being on. I've been here at night for the bar scene and it's not my favorite place, but it's good for what it is.
Let's face it. Every Long Islander has been to Minnesota's for a drink or three when in LB. I've been here many times to drink beers or every drink the margaritas they used to serve in Patron bottles. This weekend, I tried the food. i didn't even realize Minnesota's had food, as I'm usually a hot mess when I stop by here on Irish day. Anyway, it was a 10-minute wait, so we headed to the bar inside. Loud, drunk people around me…eh. Beers are the usual suspects and their light counterparts…eh. I'm no beer snob, but I'd appreciate a coupe decent craft beers, not Blue Moon. We get seated and the table is wet….ew. Our waitress was pretty good…in the beginning. She took our drink and food orders pretty fast, and the food came out fast too. The menu is surprisingly good, ranging from the usual bar food to tacos to a variety of lobster rolls. You had the option of making your fries truffle for $2, which I of course took.
I had the chicken tidbits, and thank god for the huge amount of fries it came with, because it was just bad. Bland and soggy, it was just a disappointment. My bf had the chipotle lobster roll and he devoured it, but like most lobster rolls, this one was tiny. The fries were great! Thin and crispy, not drenched in truffle oil and not caked in parmesan. The frozen mango margaritas were yummy but super weak. More like a fruit smoothie. The waitress seriously disappeared after that. We waited 15-20 minutes to flag the busboy down for the check. Then the machine that processes credit cards went down…another wait. I begrudgingly tipped her, she was that bad. Overall, Minnesota's won't be getting my business anymore. The west end has too many good things, from Beach House to Swingbelly's down the road.
I hate to give Minnesotas a bad review on the pretense it isn't my kind of bar- Minnesotas isn't a BAD bar, per say, its just not my style. So I'm going to try and be objective:
I've gone there during the week, in the winter, when the summer crowd isn't there for dinner, and the food has been okay. Not good/not bad, but okay. They have a generic beer selection, same with the booze. here are my pros and cons:
pro – sometimes theres live music. I like live music
con – there are a LOT of meatheads
pro – they added a room with a couch
con – meatheads and skanks seem to think its appropriate to hook up here
pro – they have a big outside area
con – the wait for brunch there can be long
pro – when the wait for brunch is long, you can drink by the bar
con – you might get too drunk to remember your food (maybe thats a pro?)
so they have burgers and a typical menu – which is all decent. I just think their drinks are a little over priced unless you know the bartenders. you know the bartenders, drink vodka cause they'll heavy hand you. I dont like meat heads, but if i was a bar chic that LIKED meatheads, I'd be at this place every saturday night in 4 inch heels and a mini looking for a 'gorilla' a la jersey shore.
Been here before on Friday/Saturday nights when I was a lot younger and I wouldn't be caught dead there anymore on a weekend night.
But, Minnesota's is a great spot as your coming off the beach and just looking to have a few drinks and just chill out. Came by here a few weeks ago and had a few appetizers and drinks on the patio section, underneath the shade. Couldn't ask for a better way to end a nice beach day. Prices are good, service is fast and friendly. I'll be back here, come next beach season.
I went with my wife and neighbors to Minnesota's yesterday for dinner using a Groupon certificate. We were seated quickly. The restaurant itself is attractive and airy with a large amount of room. The menu could have offered more options and was very sparse in several areas. We ordered a scallop appetizer a crab cake appetizer.some lobster bisque and a chicken quesadilla another chicken dish and a side of fries. All of the food was quite good and flavorful however the portion of fires was overpriced at 5.00. Service was good but spotty at times especially when we asked for bread at the table. The price to value ratio is about average for this type of restaurant. All in all this was a very good experience and I look forward to returning in the near future
Today was a gorgeous day and as soon as my son got out of school we headed to long Beach to enjoy lunch with somewhere that had outside dining. Minnesota ' s came up on my trusty yelp app so we headed there. I was really surprised to see the amount of other diners on a Wednesday lunch. The first employee we came and contact with said seat your self we headed right next to the little fish pond. We were greeted quickly and are drink orders were taken. I asked for a childerns menu and she said they didnt have one. Which is odd because yelp reported this as kid friendly. Unfortunately, that was the end of our timely service. The other server was near us so I asked what she suggested for kids and she immediately offered me a kids menu. 10 minutes later are lunch order was taken. Are food was delivered by what I believe to be the manager he was moving around more than are missing in action waitress. He was very polite and helpful. The lunch was good. Are waitress never came over to ask how it was and eventually we had to hunt her down to ask for something else to drink. The other waitress seemed a lot more attentive and capable of handling a sunny day rush. I asked her for our check so we could leave. .. honestly we could have walked out without paying an I am pretty sure she would have not noticed. Overall it's in a great location (horrible parking) and my son really enjoyed the coy pond we will come back later in the summer and give them another shot. New menu coming May 1st
Great place. I have been coming here for years. Great food. Great service, great bartenders. Every time I go to LB, i come here, you should too!!
Who needs to go to the city when you have such delicious food at your fingertips?!?! Minnesota's has such a fresh, fun, appetizing menu. I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat …it all looked/ sounded that good! We ordered the Mango BBQ ribs which I'll be raving about for a while, chicken wings – another win & for entree I ordered the "hot" lobster roll w/ Jalapeño chive butter…. All I can say is HAYADOIN'?!?!
