One of the few Indian restaurants that are really good. Lunch is buffet and is crowed as hell in the weekends, so if you don't like too many people messing about you might want to rethink other options. Dinner is al-a-carte. Chilli chicken is good. If you are a fan of the idly , you will be in for a treat. They are soft fresh little things that please your appetite with the awesome sambar. Dosa is famous in this place. I would surely visit this as often as I can when I am around here.
I went here for lunch in search of dosas but was told that it was buffet only. The seating area is nice, and the selection was big compared to other Indian buffets I've been to, though I didn't get a chance to try all of it. The dishes that I did try were decent, but at $16/person I didn't think it was worth it. At the end of our meal we noticed that several tables had dosas though they weren't on the buffet line, so it's unclear whether you can order additional items at lunch or not.
I'm normally very picky about my Indian restaurants, and I was decently pleased with my experience at Mirchi. I went to the lunch buffet with my family and really liked it.
The food is among the best in the area, which is saying something for Oak Tree Road. I'd recommend the lunch buffet. At $16/person, it's a bit higher than other places in the area like Rasoi or Karaikudi Chettinad, but I'd say it's well worth it. The variety offered in this buffet is hard to beat: a great selection of 5-7 non-vegetarian dishes, several different biryanis, rasam, a dosa counter, medhu vadai with sambar, and fewer than 8 vegetarian entrees, all topped off by a dessert selection with fruit custard and a mithai platter.
While Mirchi bills itself as a South Indian venue, you will find ample North Indian options here, too. If your party has a mix of people with vegetarian and non-vegetarian dietary preferences, Mirchi caters well to your needs. It's also a very accommodating place for people with different spice level preferences, as there as some dishes that are made with low or medium spice and others that pack quite a kick.
The food has great flavor and richness. Sometimes, I've found that food at Indian restaurants can have too much oil/butter or can err towards being either too bland or spicy, but I appreciate that I didn't run into either of those issues here. Some dishes I'd especially recommend are the rasam, goat curry (or biryani), okra, and sambar-vadai.
The service here is pretty good. They're pretty prompt about clearing your plates on time and keeping the buffet items stocked. I'd have liked it slightly better if they brought the dosas to the table, but it's a minor issue.
The ambiance is alright, but it's a bit of an awkward middle ground between looking like a fine-dining venue and a hole-in-the-wall joint. The decor retains a lot of the more upscale fixtures from when Moksha was here, but the tacky paper "US Presidents" place mats and paper-plastic plates and utensils are somewhat with odds with the atmosphere.
In all, though, this is an excellent family-friendly restaurant with great food that I'd happily visit again.
I had their weekday lunch buffet, which was good, but not great. I was hoping for more interesting meat choices and one more to choose among.
Nice people, but when Moksha was here, I was happier, although this is mils above Pasquale's when that was here.
