  1. Wonderful place for brunch or lunch.  This welcoming spot on Glenridge Avenue has walls in autumn tones and is inviting and quaint. My order of spinach frittata with homemade English muffin and side salad with house vinaigrette was delicious. The selection of  their Middle Eastern apps and entrees is nice. Their hot and  iced mocha coffees are tasty.  Best of all is their service. Our waitress came over many times to ask if we needed anything and how things were.  There are two rooms of tables in this lovely restaurant. I highly recommend Mishmish and will return soon.

  2. Don't let the word "coffee" fool you in the business name. Yes, they have quite a variety of coffee options, but this place is so much more than that. I'd say it's a mishmish of everything, but I'm still trying to figure out what that means.

    The staff is very welcoming and the service was friendly and spot on. In full disclosure, this was a Wednesday night. I'm told weekends are nuts and it's difficult to get a table, but the place is small and they do take reservations so call ahead.

    The Spanish octopus probably earned a spot in the top 3 octopus dishes I've ever had. The combination of fennel puree, chickpeas, grapefruit and almonds made for a party in my mouth.

    The lamb tagine, though simplistic, was very tasty and super fresh. And those peas aren't canned.

    For dessert, we couldn't decide between the malabi (Israeli milk pudding) or the chocolate mousse, so we didn't decide. We got both. The mousse was rich and delicious, but did not pale in comparison to the malabi. Fruity, not too watery, not too dense, and sweet, yet not too sweet. Just perfect. Probably one of my favorite desserts of ALL time.

    Kudos to MishMish for bringing an underrepresented cuisine to Montclair in a very big way. Like most places in Montclair, it's BYOB so that's a major plus. I'm also a fan of the open kitchen, where I spent a great deal of time admiring the creativity and finesse of the chef and the attention to detail in his dishes.

    Parking can be an issue, but not nearly as bad if it were on Bloomfield Ave.

  3. Finally had the chance to go to Mishmish. Liked it. Husband felt it was a woman's place, since most of diners on a Wednesday were women. And maybe all those great healthy options. We enjoyed hummus, fried cauliflower , grilled octopus, fish tacos. Plenty of food. Wished fish on tacos had been broiled, not fried. Pretty good. Hummus truly nice. Lovely service. Nice meal for under $50. Will we return? Liked it a lot but not sure.

  4. Stopped by for the outdoor seating. Our first visit here, and didn't order any food. But the pumpkin chai latte (real pumpkin!) was truly excellent, as was the cappuccino, with just the right proportion of steamed milk. During a busy Sunday brunch hour, we found the table service a tad tardy, but that should be expected.

I'd never been here before and came in to get dinner to go.   The place is really cute, well designed and inviting.   Each of the staff with whom I interacted was warm, friendly and helpful.   Patricia spent the most time with me, sharing in wonderful detail the evening's specials and letting me know what were some of the signature dishes.    

    I opted for the octopus and the lamb meatball shakshuka.   Waiting at the bar while my order was prepared was thrilling because I was able to watch my food being prepared in the open kitchen.    The chefs were fun to watch and took great care in making my to go meal look just as good as if it was plated for me to dine there.    

    Everything tasted delicious.   Bold flavors and well seasoned.   I will absolutely be back.

  6. This place is great! Hidden on a side road in Montclair's busy section lies a delicious Israel restaurant. The name is deceiving because it's more than a coffee cafe.

    My boyfriend and I started with the hummus and octopus.  The hummus was tasty. The octopus was pretty amazing. I'm not an octopus fan, but really enjoyed this one.

    I ordered the steak shawarma plate which was sliced steak over purée. It was really delicious!

  7. It has been years since I've enjoyed Israeli food. Lebanese, Turkish, Afghan, all are similar but none the same. What great fortune for my girlfriend to bring me here on Valentines Day.
    The food, unquestionably, five stars. We tried the Merguez sausage and smoked eggplant for appetizers. Both were superb, but the eggplant was transcendent. You will not have a better baba ghanoush or similar anywhere else. Must eat. The sausage came in a delicious sunchoke puree, literally the same day I was trying to explain to my girlfriend what sunchokes are. The table bread is chewy and fluffy yet dry, and dips well into the olive oil so pure it stings the tongue. The eggplant comes with fresh baked pita. Pro tip: ask for feta on the side and make extraordinary cheese pockets. For the meal, we both got the lamb meatballs. It looked to be a popular dish despite being the cheapest on the menu. It was rather salty to my taste but we each devoured every bite. Impressed, I had the special halavi dessert. It's a shame this isn't a regular offering. With a vanilla creme base, topped with fresh blackberry sauce, pistachios, and halva, it is a rare delight.
    In my book, the food will justify many return trips regardless of other factors, but my review must account for them. The atmosphere ought to be classier given the menu, prices, and location. We only got three utensils the entire meal. At least there were cloth napkins. Service was attentive but with the tables spaced so tightly to pack everyone in, our personal space was invaded numerous times to take orders, deliver food, and refill water. You can't make a small space bigger without paying for it, but it's needed here. And with food like this, they should soon be able to afford it.

  8. This is an updated review since I only came for brunch before. I finally tried their dinner and was glad I did! My boyfriend and I went for Valentine's Day and they had a special menu for the day for $62 each so we decided to order off the regular menu. We started with crispy cauliflower and tahini sauce which was very good although could be more spicy. They also gave us a bread platter with some pickled veggies which was really nice. For entrees we had the oxtail ragout which was a winner and grandmas Moroccan fish, also very delicious. The service was very attentive and and the presentation of the food was also nice.
    When we got the check they even gave us some macarons!
