Since my fridge broke, I've been ordering through Seamless everyday. I keep going back to this place… this is the 3rd time this week. This review is for delivery only.
Okonomiyaki – Japanese pancake – is the best item here!
They also have takoyaki… not many places in Flushing does. I loved everything I ordered! Oyakodon, udon, unagidon. The unagi don didn't have much sauce (wish they had more, the rice was kinda bland) but the eel was good.
As I'm typing, I'm waiting for them to deliver hehehe.
I also like that they come with little tiny side dishes.
Japanese/Korean cuisine located on this basement level restaurant. I heard recently the place was renovated, it appears new and has nice spacious seating.
When we first sat down they served us tea, banchans and a small cup of congee. I never had congee served to me as an appetizer but it was warm, tasty and comforting. The banchans were tasty as well.
The menu offers set menu dinners for 2 up to 4 people. We decided to order the Set menu "A" which includes udon, tonkatsu, mixed shrimp and veggie tempura. We also order off the a la carte menu the octopus balls and a tuna hand roll.
The tonkatsu was a little dry and did not have much flavor, the tempura was lightly fried and ok, the udon was served nice and hot, but the broth was a bit under seasoned. The tuna roll tasted fresh and was quite good, but the octopus balls were more dough than octopus. Overall the entire meal was OK, not the best or worst.
The service staff was nice, but at times seemed nervous and unsure what to do next. Great Groupon deals also make this place very attractive.
I order from Misoya pretty often, mainly because their sushi and sashimi never really disappoints and seems to be fresh! I love getting the uni sushi here! They give a heaping amount of uni, but it is kinda pricey.
The chirashi and sashimidon are pretty similar dishes, but the chirashi has rice while the sashimidon is placed over a bed of greens! I feel like the selection of sashimi in the chirashi bowl is much more appetizing. The cuts of the sashimi are diced in the chirashi bowl, while the sashimi pieces are in bigger slices in the sashimidon.
I had the Set A as well, which I think is pretty worth it. It comes with udon, tonkatsu, shrimp tempura roll and tempura. The udon was cooked nicely with the perfect amount of chewiness and the broth is not too heavy, but flavorful as well. The tonkatsu is alright; it gets by, but I wouldn't really say it was amazing. The tempura is lightly battered and not too fried, so I really enjoyed that because it wasn't too heavy! As for the rolls, I feel like they're always pretty fresh and well made with a good rice to every other ingredient ratio.
It's a minimum of $20 for delivery, but it's kinda pricey here so I think it's easy to rack up a $20+ bill for delivery. I wouldn't say their delivery is slow, but it's not the speediest either. Regardless, I still order from here pretty often!
I'm not sure how this place stays in business. The 3 of us came on a very off Saturday evening. Literally everything we ordered got messed up/did not arrive. We had to keep checking with the servers where our food was…
The soba was the only thing that tasted right. We ordered the sushi and sashimi combo, but only the sashimi came. Fish was not tender or soft like it should be. Probably old. Had to remind them the sushi never came. When it did, the rice tasted old.. and hard. We asked what kind of beer they had. The waitress checked, then came back and said only Sapporo and Coors Light. We ordered Sapporo. Beer never came until we asked for it, again. Then she said they only have 2 Sapporo left. I thought she checked already?! Ordered 2 clam soups and only 1 came. After a while, it just became hysterical… Table next to us never got their order in, and left after 15 or so minutes. Let me remind you, this place was DEAD!
Waited over 20 minutes for the check when 2/3 people asked for it. We could've simply walked out for all that mattered! This place needs work. Like, a lot of it. Or shut down. One or the other please. Service and food was below average.
1. They are on groupon
2. It is super spacious downstairs
3. The interior reminds me of a spa
I came here on a Friday night and was surprised to find that they were so empty, but that's fine by me since I don't really like waiting too long to be seated. The waiter seated us right away even though we told him we were still waiting on three more. He brought out some complimentary appetizers for us to eat while we waited for the rest of the party to arrive (some pickled veggies and corn chowder soup). For the price you pay you do get a lot of food. The tonkatsu is good, the karage (chicken appetizer) was bland and I would not get it again, the chirashi bowl was alright but I felt that it came with very little sashimi slices for the price, the snow crab roll and dragon roll was good, the fish cake udon was good and the Japanese pancake was delicious.
Misoya is a Korean-owned Japanese restaurant that has been in my area for a few years now, but I only stopped by for the first time a few days ago because of a Groupon. Thank goodness I had the Groupon though.
Misoya's previous location was small and looked like your usual simple restaurant set-up. Its new location though is beautiful. Descend a staircase and you'll be surprised by the spaciousness. They did a great job decorating it to look like a swanky Japanese restaurant: soft lighting, wooden furniture and accents, and bamboo and other plants scattered about. Even the restroom looks modern and awesome. Sadly, entering Misoya was the best part of the night.
Service = 3/5
My friend and I came on a Wednesday night, so it was pretty dead aside from two other tables. Even so, it took a while for the lone waitress to come around and take our order. And then she forgot one of our dishes. At least she took it off our check, but still, tsk tsk. Otherwise, water and side dish refills came pretty often.
Food = 2/5
I was intrigued by their "hot pot", so I ordered the beef nabe. The set was pretty nice: apparently in Japanese hot pot, you dip the cooked ingredients into an egg yolk for flavor. The hot pot itself didn't really need extra flavor though because it was really savory…thankfully not to the point where I felt the need to chug water right after. I do wish they had more variety with the ingredients: half of the "veggies" were onions and scallions, with a smattering of bamboo, mushrooms, peppers, and carrots. It wasn't bad…I was just not impressed.
Their side dish selection of pickled cabbage, burdock, and zucchini was just okay too, as was the side salad that came with my order. There was also a clam side dish that would've been great had they cleaned it better: even my friend could hear me chewing on the sand that was in my dish. Their miso soup tasted great upon first sip but got so overbearing with sodium by sip #5 that I had to stop.
Overall, mayyybe I'll come back one day just to try the udon…but I'm definitely using the Groupon again. Otherwise, there are so many other options around the area that you're not missing out if you don't come eat here.
Side note: Is this Misoya affiliated in any way with the Ramen Misoya near St. Marks? I feel like their logos and the sodium levels are the same.
I've ordered from this place once and I'll probably never order from here again. Mind you that I ordered delivery after being awake a little over 24 straight hours and after eating only breakfast that day around 7AM. I ordered delivery around 1PM- so hungry that I wanted to eat everything and anything. I picked Misoya because Seamless listed this restaurant with the shortest wait time + free delivery. My boyfriend and I chose (to meet the $20 minimum) the Morisoba and the Oden Udon. Maybe it was because it was takeout but I've never received takeout that looked that way. The soba literally looked as if they just threw a bunch of noodles into a tray and called it a day. The soup for the soba was cold and so unappetizing. I took a bite of it and just didn't want to eat anymore. I decided to try the Oden to see if maybe that would be more appealing to my stomach- but nopes. A lot of the tempura that was in the soup tasted uncooked and super slimy. I like to consider my resourceful and I hate wasting food, so I often force myself beyond what I can handle just for that reason. Unfortunatelt, I called it a night after those two bites.
Nothing bad and nothing special with this one. We came with a Groupon for lunch on a weekday. This place is in a basement and kept very clean.
We ordered the salmon donburi and the shrimp teriyaki. The salmon donburi was pretty good. The salmon was very fresh. The shrimp teriyaki was not all that great and very average.
Service was OK. I guess not a bad choice to come when you are in the neighborhood and craving for Japanese.
