Let's get right to it. Please keep in mind that I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about this type of ish. Please keep in mind this review is for my visit on Super Bowl Sunday aka the unofficial holiday of sports junkies.
I arrived at around 6:15, kick was at 6:30. I am shocked to see there are exactly 9 patrons around the bar. I ease in anyway thinking it's still early. There are quite a few folks in orange Polo shirts who assumingly work there but they continue to chat before tending to me and my home girl. When we are finally addressed the host/seater/greeter asks if we have reservations, which we didnt. Fair enough of a question but ironically only 2 tables of about 10 were occupied. We opted to sit at the setups off the side of the bar.
Minutes later we finally get someone over to assist us. She informs us that they have specials. (wings or nachos and beer bucket for $15) Great!
My homie got the nachos, minus the chilli (she's team no meat) and I opted for the wings. About 15 .in later the food is on the table. Lady Gaga takes the stage and slays the National Anthem (team Aries) and then I took a bite into the god forsaken wings. Dry, no flavor and uncooked as in struggling to separate meat from bones. I have NEVER done a review just to throw salt. After all this is someone's hustle but I will also NEVER be okay with sub part service that cheats me out of yummy food and my hard earned $.
I called the young lady over and attempted to engage her in a conversation regarding said wings and attempt to get some utensils ans napkins which were still missing. She seemed spacy ans disconnected giving zero fucks about my issue. As she was walking away she mumbled something about all the tickets in the back. If all 25 ppl in attendance ordered 4 items from the kitchen I should have still been afforded better service because as a business you plan for days like this.
Again, it's Super Bowl Sunday. It's also in the Constitution that on said day I should be able to get decent wings and libations. Apparently MODA didn't get the memo. I would have been better staying my tush at home and making wings myself. If I'm on my death bed and MODA I'd offered as a last meal….please let me go in peace and just remember all the bomb ass meals I had while life was still good.
Stopped by on a Saturday a few weeks ago, wasn't really crowded at all. I remember passing by this place when it was City Rib, and now it's under a new name and different management. We were there to take advantage of the 2 drink deal they had going on which was decent nothing really special in comparison to most bars in Brooklyn and Queens. I had two rum and coke, and on the real I don't know who was behind the bar that night but damn those drinks were strong as hell, more rum than coke which isn't always a bad thing. Luckily the food came to soak some of it up. Their chicken fingers were ok, not spectacular and the fries were sort of mushy but the pasta with carrots and broccoli in a Parmesan tomato sauce was perfect.
Jamaica needs more establishments like this but from what I heard about it's predecessor they may need to bring the brunch and comfort food items back on the menu.
I went with a friend for lunch right when they opened. The restaurant was practically empty.
We sat at the bar and placed our orders to go. The waiter was very nice and offered us water as we waited for our food. The restaurant is a good size and could accommodate large parties of people.
The wait for our food felt long. It was about 30 minutes but our food was fresh and hot. The Parmesan wings and sweet potato fries were very good. The chicken quesadilla was a large size and easily could have fed two people.
The only drawback was the wait for the food. I would definitely try them out again.
Moda Grill has recently reopened their doors and is under new management. The layout is still the same and the cocktails has not change. The menu has since changed. There's no more BBQ entrees. It's been replaced with healthier options. I didn't try the food as of yet.
I came here solely for their libations. There's specials here all week long. Today I took advantage of their 2 for 1 special on house liquor only on Saturday. It's an all day event.
