  1. This is a new spot around the way. It finally opened, so I wanted to check it out. It has a modern feel to it upon looking at it from the front. The entrance has a sliding door and has front/outside seating. Okay, nice.

Walking in, it's a really small place probably 4 tables for 4ppl each and one table by the bar. They utilized the small space for a good amount of customers. Ok, nice.

I was offered a take out menu, I noticed that right away. I guess its the same as the ones they gave two other tables…but they got actual menus…so i don't know.

There was only one waitress and one manager. We were seated, handed a take-out menu and given water right away. We got to order…again, we were the only ones in there.  Our food took a little long. Even the appetizers.  They didn't specify that the drumsticks weren't the "small" wing-type wings…so we got ACTUAL, big ass drumsticks. One side of the menu said wings, and the other side, drumsticks.  So it can be a little confusing. Whatever, now i know.

A bunch of old Korean guys came in and took up a corner and started to order. By this time, our food still didnt come out. And they were served hand and foot.  We got our order, and because of the men being there, our service got slower and slower… We only got water once. I was assuming they were the owner or friends of the owner and kept on about my business.

We were pretty much done with our food and wanted to go…they didn't catch the hint when we haven't touched our food for 20 minutes and being on our phones. So my BF flagged the only waitress…then she had to flag down the manager to print out a receipt.

Not a food experience for a grand opening and for my first time being there. With a place that small, no one should be waiting for too long, and there's no excuse for the server to be unattentive. Place is way too small for that.

Also, this place is located directly next to a sex shop. So I don't really know if bringing kids is a great idea LOL!

  2. I had positive impressions for my first time eating lunch at Modoo, which opened a week ago. The two staff workers were attentive and friendly, and Modoo has the vibe of a bar more than that of a restaurant.

Still, for a party of two, I tried the chicken over rice and a plate of soy garlic wings. Both were flavorful. The portions for the chicken over rice was generous, and the meat was moist and tender. The soy garlic wings were unlike any other wings I've tried– I like that they tasted sweet right when I bit into them, but they leave a spicy aftertaste on your tongue, hence the sizzling sensation that makes me think of butter on a heated pan.

I wish that the air conditioning was on a bit higher, because this place was a bit too warm on a scorching, humid afternoon. Also, if the soy garlic wings came with some type of ranch sauce (which the staff unfortunately didn't have), that'd be a great addition to the dish: I ended up dipping my wings into the dressing on top of the salad I was served, and that was tasty.

  3. Tonight is the grand opening!  Hooray!

    Soy Garlic: A
Beautifully vibrant flavor.  The chicken is double fried in the typical KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) way.  It might even be crispier than the soy garlic at Bonchon chicken, one of my favorite KFC places in the hood.  I have to say, the flavor at Bonchon is slightly better because I really love the ginger they use to enhance the flavor and aroma of their chicken, but the soy garlic at Modoo is crispier.  Crunchier.  Love it.

    Crispy: A+
Their crispy fried chicken is seriously crispy, but not in a KFC (as in "Korean Fried Chicken") kind of way, oh no, it is not!   It's crispy in a KFC (as in, "Kentucky Fried Chicken") kind of way!   Definitely inspired by southern fried chicken.  The only thing Korean-chickeny about this chicken is the size of the wings and drumsticks (and the lack of breasts and thighs).   The chickens are definitely Korean chickens, but the breading / crispy outside has more in common with American fried chicken than Korean fried chicken, except that the crispy chicken is definitely not as oily / greasy.  After eating it, I dont' feel like my face is going to break out into pimples tomorrow.
