There are quite few good options for Indian food in the Edison area, but Moghul is a step above most of the others. The decor is relaxed, and very comfortable — a bit more upscale than the competition. The chefs here put their own spin on traditional dishes, but you can still get a great Tikka Masala if that's your thing.
Most recently, I tried their lunch buffet, and dined here with a business client. The selection was good (although I would have preferred fewer vegetarian and more meat based dishes) with a couple of standouts. If you like chicken Tandoori, but dread the preparation which sometimes leaves the dish dry, check out Moghul's version. It's tender, flavorful and delicious.
Moghul is not easy to find, even with a GPS, because it's located at the back of a mall along Oak Tree Road — which is quite busy at lunchtime and during rush hour. Look for "Mirage", with the large covered portico, and go just past that to find it.
Awesome place. The food was delicious. They hosted a Yelp event and the staff was so good. The food was so good. I have to get back here and sit for a full meal.
The drinks were very good.
This is a bookmark for me for sure.
Great Sunday buffet . 5 stars for ambience, the only reason I give it four stars is they didn't have enough of a vegetarian selection. Granted the place is called moghul- so we shouldn't expect a large selection, but it would be appreciated!
Great food otherwise! The paneer, korma and garlic noodles were delicious, the dal makhani was under par. Good service, only thing to note is they add an eighteen percent service charge.
Recommended if you're in the area.
This has long been one of the top Indian restaurants in NJ and is part of the most successful Indian restaurant operation in NJ–they also own Ming in Morristown and Edison and Mehndi and SM23 in Morristown. This is one of the most popular places for Indian people in Edison seeking an upscale dinner.
Top dishes include anything tandoori; chicken 65 and rogan josh.
The decor is very nice and service superb. Yes, I wish fancy Indian places did not charge for rice, so the bill may sneak up on you, but the food is top quality.
To avoid crowds, go before 730.
Lunch buffets are also good here.
3.5 stars, really. The food came out fairly quickly, which was great. This place gets packed on a weekend, and I mean people bringing their entire families for lunch kind of packed. There are tables for dining in, but not THAT many. There's also an outdoor space as well. Take-out is huge at this place.
We got the eggplant in garlic sauce and a soup (I think coriander soup? It was green). The eggplant was kind of bleh. It was doused in so many different spices and sauces that I couldn't even actually taste the eggplant. The soup was very starchy – had to add some water to dilute it.
If I was ever in this area again, I would certainly give them a go. However, I don't expect that to happen anytime soon, as I was here randomly anyway.
We had dinner at Moghul in Edison tonight. My friends and I wanted Indian food, and I've been wanting to go to Moghul for awhile. It seems like every time we try to make plans, something happens, but we were finally able to get here.
One friend ordered the samosas appetizer, and another ordered the garlic naan. We three go to a lot of Indian restaurants, and this was by far the best garlic naan we've had. The samosas were top notch, too. Tasty, nicely spiced, and inviting.
For dinner we each ordered a dish and shared. B had lamb roganjosh, R had Reshami Kebab, a deliciously spiced minced chicken dish. I had Peshawari Kebab, a yummy lamb kebab entree. Funny, mine disappeared first because everyone was reaching for it!
We ordered a bowl of basmati rice to share. For dessert R ordered the Gajar Halwa, a grated carrot dish. It wasn't what she thought it would be. We all had a taste but left most of it. It was very sweet between the carrot and what tasted like sweetened condensed milk.
Service was attentive but not claustrophobic. We had a nice time and were allowed to sit, talk and catch up. It's been months since we were all able to get together. We were seated by the window and treated to the sight of deer in the parking lot! I wasn't expecting that.
Food was great, try it sometime if you're looking for a good, fancy Indian place that treats people well.
Great place, good ambiance and great service. It is usually bustling with people.
It has one of the best chicken tikka masala. I have tried at many places but this comes very near to the Indian one.We also ordered Gosht shahi korma, it was also amazing. Awesome food.
The prices are good for the portion and quality. This is one of the top Indian restaurants in NJ and highly recommend this place.
I've gone three times as a large group and I've had a generally OK experience. The service trumps the food, which is nothing special. I sometimes wish It was more fresh…, I just can't tell when it was made. The entrees are pricey for dinner.
Like most Indian places, you'll probably have a better experience if you go for a lunch time buffet. It is more cost effective and you try more. The chicken tikka masala is heavy on tomatoes and creme but the tandoori chicken is just right.
