Ordered some take-out here yesterday. My brother touted their mole poblano, but I was going for something simpler, so guac-chips and burritos (pollo and barbacoa) it was. Everything was pretty good. The guacamole was fresh but could have used a pinch of spice. The burritos were solid and came with respectable hot sauce on the side.
Sometimes things don't go as planned. The movie gets sold out. The restaurant wait is too long. Two of your friends with the same name get drunk and fight over their name. You know, typical stuff.
Recently was at a party that was suppose to have some grub to eat. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned, and we were left to get something to eat for ourselves. Looked up on my trusty Yelp app to find something nearby to snack on. That led me here.
We ordered up some fish tacos and a breaded chicken torta. Two of my favorites, and at a good price. Picked up real quick and brought it back to the party. The staff was really friendly and cool.
My torta was great. The avocado slices were fresh and yummy. The fish tacos were a bit on the small size but hit the spot. The two sauces they provided were fantastic.
I recommended it to several people at the party and sure enough they all hit it up afterwards. When we came back we ordered up some cervezas, which were a bit pricey for a small restaurant like this, at sat with friends while they ate. The only thing I didn't care for was their guacamole. It was fresh, but lacked some spice. It was a bit bland.
I'm glad I got to try some great Mexican food, discovered a new place with a chill staff, and enjoy a beer or two. Sometimes things don't go as planned for the better.
Small hole in the wall type of place with like ten tables. It was cinco de mayo and we were walking by and craving some Mexican food. I guess it was a good sign that there were three tables of patrons and the phone kept ringing for orders.
I got the enchiladas suiza with chips and salsa. The portion was pretty big and relatively cheap. I think it was a step up from a Chipotle but not the best small taco place I've ever had. The service was a bit slow, I think we waited almost 25 mins for our order.
The rice and beans and salsa containers were big – it was definitely more than enough for 2 people to share with 2 entrees.
When the Folly has no food, you make your way around the block to Molcajete where very delicious pescado tacos (that's FISH for you non-spanish speakers) can be had for just $4.50 a piece. Yum yum!

After my Cinco de Mayo Hungover I was craving for some more Tacos.
Instead of me going out Hungover I ordered Delivery.
Food came within 25 minutes (Since I am about .5 miles away from the restaurant).
Got 3 Tacos $ 9.75
Pretty good deal, They put a lot of meat in every soft taco.
– Carne Asada, Pretty good
– Tinga de Pollo – Must warn you, is pretty spicy… I got my butt kick for this one.
– Barbacoa de Res – Pretty good.
The meat are fully cooked, but no flavor, But with combination of Guac (that was included in there). Onions, Salsa, it made it flavorful.
Also Ordered a small portion of Guac and chips $ 8.95. It taste Fresh, I added spicy salsa to get a kick in it.
Overall is pretty good in the city.
Now… Back to my Hungover………
I thought the food was good, but expensive for what it is. It ended up being $9 for 2 tiny quesadillas with barely any cheese and chicken – no other toppings. It wasn't bad tasting food, but I'm sure I could find a better deal somewhere else. The food did not fill me up. I got delivery so I cannot comment on the staff or locaton.
This is a hole-in-the-wall type of joint, where you order at the counter, have your food brought to you, and pay at the end. It's sparsely decorated and the kitchen is open to the dining room, but Molcajete delivers solid Mexican food at really reasonable prices (and huge portions).
The restaurant was almost empty for lunch on a Thursday, but this didn't deter us at all. We started with the nachos, which were piled high with fresh tomatoes, beans, melted cheese, queso fresco, and a generous scoop of guac. These were really, really good, and very filling; there wasn't a single dry chip on the entire plate.
For my entree, I also tried the burrito bowl with barbacoa, which was a monstrous serving. Unlike my usual bowls at a lot of Mexican restaurants, my meal seemed to be mostly meat, which was extremely tender and really flavorful. With a dash of extra salt, it was just enough to send me into a food coma for the rest of the afternoon (and enough for lunch the next day as well).
This is a solid spot for a quick, cheap, and filling meal; what it lacks in ambiance, Molcajete definitely makes up in flavor.
