Molly’s
“Has a bit of old time charm with sawdust on the foor that made for a great local bar ambiance.”
“While it is great anytime of the year, it is especially warm and cozy on a winter's day or evening, when they may have a fire going in the fireplace.”
“Indeed, Molly's serves the best pub burger I've had in NYC, the best Guinness I've had in NYC and the best onion rings I've had in NYC.”

Established in 1960, therefore, naturally the most traditional Irish bar in New York. I was very excited to see all the history and old structure at this place! As we stepped inside, it was darker than expected, I could not see or appreciate the old structure or the interior much. I could see that there was a large bar to the right, and booth seating to the left. They had lots of sawdust on the floor, and I heard there is a fireplace here, but I didn't spot one in the dark.
We ordered Shepard's Pie and Irish Lamb Stew. They were both filling and delicious, even though a bit on pricey side. The stew surprisingly delicious, much more than expected. It is always great when you go in with a low or no expectation, then receiving something very delicious. Maybe we had too high of an expectation for the Shepard's Pie… It was really good, but not as good as I wanted it to be. The service was nice and friendly. I wish if the space was better lit, with normal light colors, instead of that strange red colored light. I heard they have pretty good burgers here, maybe I will come back to try some burgers next time, during lunch or brunch hours so that I can really appreciate the historical building more from the inside. I'm not being biased and supporting anything that celebrates the greatness of "Molly", but it doesn't hurt that that's it's name.
However, this is such a cute little Irish pub! They have old wooden booths in the front, a large bar area, and a bunch of tables in the back. Service is super friendly and fast, and the bartender gave us attention/told us where to go immediately.
We ordered the Molly's chicken salad and a side of small fries to share and it was PLENTY for two. The salads are HUGE and you'd be a fool not to split them. Also the fries are steak cut and addicting and I don't remember how many I ate but I'm going win "lots".
Overall a great neighborhood find, it's not like you're walking in here expecting 5 star white napkin service, but if you come in expecting a cute neighborhood Irish pub, you'll be very happy!
After a day of hiking at Bear Mountain, my friend and I dropped by Molly's for an early dinner. We ordered the Shepherd's Pie and the fish and chips respectively, which we washed down with pints of Smithwick's.
The fish was haddock, and was both buttery and flakey in spite of its deeply fried exterior. The dish itself was served with three large pieces and a mound of fries, and was more than enough for two solid meals. My friend's pie was also enough for two meals, and was delicious as well. I plan to order it next time we go.
The ambience is awesome, too. Sawdust sprinkled floors give it a rustic feel, and the booths and tables make it homey. And the service is super-friendly!
Was leery of the sawdust on the floor but this quaint place with a super cool Irish bartender was amazing. The Shepard pie was the best I've ever eaten. My friend had the Reuben and I snagged a bite. It melted in my mouth. My other friend had a huge burger that he was raving about. The bartender was charming and was the best all around food I've had in awhile. I will definitely be back
I've walked by Molly's for ages and given the fate of many of this neighborhood's long-time gems I decided to give Molly's a go. This pub is rich with history and is adorned with antiques that tell a story spanning 100+ years. This is exactly the kind of ambiance that takes me back to when I lived in the UK and reminds me of how much I love rustic pubs.
I ordered a deluxe burger with cheddar, bacon and mushrooms. I got it with half fries and half onion rings, too. The burger was meaty and the fries were clearly hand cut. The only thing was that the burger was a little over cooked (I asked for medium but it came closer to medium-well/well done). It was still good, but next time I will emphasize medium.
Service was incredibly pleasant. I waited a short while before the waitress came to my table, but she made sure to apologize for the wait and had a lovely disposition and came around a few times to ask me how I was doing. The gentleman who I'm assuming is the owner also came around the greet patrons. This is exactly the kind of customer service that makes me want to become a regular. I'll be back to try the fish & chips.
Despite the fact that I watched the Packers blow their Superbowl chances this year at this restaurant, I still am a fan! The location is great, and the interior is fun and quite cozy. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful (and put up with a few of the guys in our party who got a little messy).
We came in for food before we stayed for a few more drinks. I shared the Reuben with my sister, and OMG. Seriously. It was amazing. Best Reuben I've ever had. The meat was so good, thickest slices I've ever seen. I would HIGHLY recommend it. My husband had a sausage plate that he said was equally amazing.
If you're looking for a fun bar to have a drink, or for some good Irish food, take a stroll into Molly's.
Molly's is hands down my favorite burger in the area. The servers tell it like it is: "a thick, ten ounce burger… this ain't no McDonald's hamburger patty!" My burgers have been cooked exactly to the temperature I specified each time I've come here, which is more than I can say for other burger places I frequent. I think the price is extremely reasonable, given that I can never seem to finish the entire plate. The side salad and fries aren't as notable though.
This place is empty come weekday lunches (got my burger 10 minutes after entering the establishment), but I've tried a few weekend dinners and the wait can be up to an hour since they don't take reservations. (Once you sit, you're basically closer to strangers than your own date!) All employees I've interacted with are super nice, but they might be hard to come by when it gets busy.
I personally don't like the sawdust all over the floor, as it gets stuck to my shoes… The burger is definitely worth it though!
Molly's is a classic Irish-themed pub and dive bar that just so happens to serve one of the best, most satisfying cheeseburgers that I've ever eaten.
In short, the burger is massive and has a very intense, pure beef flavor to it. It's very thick, hearty, and will definitely fill you up. I remember mine was cooked perfectly, and I got it with all the classic accoutrements.
As of this review, it's been about a year and half since I actually ate this burger, but the fact that I'm writing a review even this late shows how I want to get the word out on Molly's. Go! Eat it!
