  1. We sat outside with our pup at this cute little French bistro, where the food is simple but done very well. I was happily surprised to find interesting vegetarian options here – I really enjoyed my Zucchini and Squash purse filled with Quinoa. Hubby was happy with Steak Frites. I ended with a Coffee Ice Cream concoction that was far too decadent but what the heck, right!? I started with a salad of Avocado, Strawberry & Arugula with the most delectable honey vinaigrette. I wish I could write more about the dressing but I never saw our waiter again to ask him. Three stars for the excruciatingly slow service from a confusing rotating staff, but the food was excellent.

  2. We found this little gem while walking down Lexington. The sidewalk seating is a great little spot for nice people watching.  Not that I can articulately pronounce the names of the dishes, but we really thought this was the perfect late lunch!

My husband and I shared the soup de jour, roasted cauliflower, was divine! Loved the crunchy homemade croutons topped on it.

I had the Sandwich de Confiture d' abricot et Brie – simply fabulous!! Nothing beats a very grown up grilled cheese with perfect jam. It came with arugeula salad to the side and sweet potatoes fries. Everything tasted fresh and lite.

My hubby enjoyed the Poulet Normand, a delightful chicken sandwich with apples and Brie. Served on a fresh baguette with arugeula salad on the side.

Delightful and met our expectations for great flavor in a lighter lunch option.  Albeit spendy, but enjoyed for a pricey NYC lunch at $54 with a hot tea.

  3. Loved this place–after going to the nearby MET Bruer Museum (see post on that!), my friend and I had to seek shelter from the torrential downpour! We stopped by Mon Petit Café and had a lovely time!

The waiters were very nice and attentive, the place was super cozy (and perfect on a rainy day), and the food was great!  Since we were stopped for the purpose of waiting for the rain to pass, we ordered wine and a cheese plate from the appetizer menu.

The wines were fairly priced and there was a wide range to choose from–we chose two wines from the South of France (Avignon) region!  We also ordered the cheese plate which included a Roquefort, Brie, Goat Cheese, and St. Andrews slice paired with apples and grapes.  (see photo)

Overall, we thought it was the perfect venue to wait out the rain, catch up, and feel whisked away (to France!)

  4. Loved coming to Mon Petit Cafe for a weekend breakfast!

Adorable French cafe with simple, yet elegant French fare. Fresh flowers at every table!

The mimosas are as strong as they come, and the french toast topped with fruit was to die for. Although I didn't try, the chorizo omelette also looked very good.

The prices are a little steep, but at least I felt my dish was worth it. A la carte menu items can really add up. Also knock off one-star because the waiter did not tell us at the beginning of the meal that they were cash-only for the weekend.

  5. Decent French cafe, nothing special here. Service was fine. We were given bread (not very good, not warm) with cold butter which was difficult to spread on the bread. I tried the herbed chicken with mashed butternut squash, again nothing special. My friends had the chicken sandwich and the meat sliders. Meat sliders were super tiny and the accompanying fries were very plain. My friend liked the chicken sandwich.

Atmosphere was small cute cafe with dim lighting.

  6. Now that the weather's nice, I wanted to have a nice, leisurely lunch outside. I pass by Mon Petit Café everyday when going to the subway, and as a Francophile, thought this was the best option.

I was not disappointed! The restaurant transported me back to Paris. They had tables lined up outside, with the chairs next to each other facing the street. I love how this sets a leisurely flow to the meal.

All of the waiters were French, and very friendly. For brunch, they have a 28$ menu which includes one dish plus a drink.

I don't think the brunch starts until 11, so my friend and I ordered coffee at our table outside. Once the kitchen was up-and-running, I ordered a mimosa, and les oeufs scandinaves, which was an egg scramble with lox, and other vegetables. Was delicious! My friend got a poached egg with bacon in a croissant. Both meals were very good. Here, you are paying for the experience. The food is good, and the ambiance is top-notch.

  7. I came for lunch and thought the food was solid! The ambience is cute and we didn't have a wait at all (around 2pm on a weekday). Service was quick and attentive.

I got a Diet Coke and the salmon entree, which was quite good. The salmon was well-cooked and spread over sauteed spinach and an amazing avocado puree. Loved the combination. The portion size was perfect for lunch. My friend got the coconut shrimp salad, which he enjoyed as well.

I think the pricing could have been slightly lower, as it was what I would expect for dinner. However, it's not outrageous and the food is genuinely good and high quality.

  8. I didn't do so well with the picture-taking tonight, and thus can't visually convey Mon Petit's Cafe excellence. The price tag puts it out of reach for everyday enjoyment, but the food and service are first rate.

The cassoulet is a meaty knockout, with a delectable tomato-based sauce that will put your bread to good use. As for the escargot in garlic butter and Pernod, even when the snails are gone you'll be hooked on that green sauce. You can't go wrong with a dessert sampler but it might be best to place your bets strictly on creme brulee.
