Pretty terrible seafood dinner here..A friend of mine said she loves this place… Now I wonder her taste in food! My advice, definitely skip.
Hudson Hawk? I might have heard the name wrong but It's someone to avoid at this Fish House. Whoever Morgan is, they should be ashamed people like "hudson" work for their establishment.
The bartender's are what ruined this place for me. The food was secondary but the service was even lower. Indulge me, as I wasn't able to indulge in the meal I wanted, or expected. UGHHH!
I sat at the bar on a Saturday night. There were plenty of seats open and that should have been my first indication that it should have been busier at 8pm on a saturday night, I should have left. I ordered wine, looked at the dinner menu and didn't get any bread. Maybe you're not supposed to. I then asked for the Blue Cheese Wedge, the asparagus and the blackened swordfish. The salad seemed like it was under the warmer light and it seemed like it took forever to get served. There is a definite disconnect between the bartenders having to ask people to check on orders that can be sitting at the kitchen resulting in a warm salad and cold food. My asparagus was cold and there was some carrot compote under the swordfish that I couldn't wait to get rid of so I could enjoy my swordfish, which was good but certainly not "I can't wait for the next bite". It certainly didn't leave me with a satisfied swordfish fix that I was looking for.
So I waited for dessert, maybe that will satisfy me. Now my water glass was empty, my wine glass depleted and one bartender was to busy chatting up some talkative guy at the other end of this rather small bar. The other bartender was watching the Celtics and the Heat play game 7 and flirting with the waitresses. Enter the manager who asked if everything was ok with dinner and if I was done with dishes. He picked them up and started to hand them to the do nothing bartender. "Hudson.. Hudson…Hudson Hawk?" each time the manager had to raise his voice to get this guys attention. The manager was most likely as frustrated as me.
I waited for what seemed like 10 minutes without any overtures to me and for the dessert question. FINALLY shit for brains comes and asks if there is anything else I want. "just the bill" at this point. The bill comes, I pay it and take the change and put it in my pocket. I walk to the door and hand the manager the check folder and say "Know what's worse than bad service?" He replies, "no, what?" I say "nothing" and walked out the door.
I did dessert down the street at the ice cream place. Best food I had all night.
We decided to stop by Morgan's after getting a recommendation from a colleague of ours. It's really a nice airy spot they have there. The decor is pleasant and stylish and I liked the upscale 'fish shack' type of vibe they went with. Looks great.
We made a reservation for 12:30pm and arrived a few minutes before the appointed time. The hostess seemed to be very irritated when I told her that members of our party we're still on their way. This despite the fact that the restaurant was completely empty except for two people. When the rest of our party finally arrived, she made a sour face and more or less nonverbally communicated that she was doing us a favor by taking us to the table. I haven't seen such a grumpy hostess in ages. How about a smile for your guests, dear?
I assume they just opened at noon or so because the service was really slow. It took a long time for our server to come out and give us the menus, maybe 10 minutes or so. After we finally browsed through everything it took another 10 minutes to get somebody to take our order, and the food took about 15 minutes to come out as well. All in all, close to 30-35 minutes to get our food for the time we sat down…in a virtually empty dining room. I don't think it's a stretch to stay that that's a bit unacceptable. The server was pleasant enough though, and even brought out crayons for our kid to play with.
After perusing the menu we decided to go with the pretzel crusted yellowfin tuna which came with a honey mustard and ginger sauce, scallion potatoes and asparagus and the fried cod fish lunch special which came with a salad.
Portions were really sizable and the food quality was good, though not great. My tuna was nicely cooked, just a quick sear and that's it, and the pretzel crust was interesting (though not as pretzely as I had imagined). My sides were nice, though not unlike the sides you see at a million other places. My chick enjoyed her cod and said that she really loved the way they got such a solid crunch on it.
Pricing was steep. The tuna was $36 which I felt was a lot considering how standard the dish was. On the other hand though my girl loved her dish and felt the $20 pricing was spot on.
I'd love to give Morgan's a 3.5 rating but Yelp doesn't do half stars, so I'm going to round down to 3 primarily due to the attitude we got upon entry. In the end, I probably wouldn't go to Morgan's again, however I do recommend that people give it a shot because the food quality is good and also because the setting is quite chilled out and comfortable.
Morgan's is without doubt one of Rye's best restaurants.
Excellent menu, service and cuisine.
It's always a pleasure to dine here.
Definitely make a reservation to ensure a table. It's always busy here and that says it all.
Went here for the first time tonight with a friend from the area. This is their go-to restaurant. Love the interior. Very cute. Seated immediately, the place was pretty empty around 7:45pm on a Wednesday night.
Our server was extremely attentive. We got some appetizers: calamari & raw tuna. Both were good. Definitely not the best calamari I've had.
Our waiter was VERY good with refilling our water, something I always find extremely awesome.
My friend wound up seeing her good friends from the area, and they actually came and sat with us for awhile. The waiter was extremely accommodating, pulling up chairs to the end of our small table.
Had the Crab Crusted Salmon (27). It came on a bed of corn-risotto and spinach. So good.
Came here for the Tuesday specials – $1 Oysters and half price margaritas! More so for the oysters.
We ordered 24 oysters – those were great!
For entrees we had tried:
– Seafood Risotto with Shrimp, Scallop, Clams, Mussels, Fish of the Day and White Wine Sauce
– Blackened Catfish over Rock Shrimp and Andouille Sausage Jambalaya
The seafood risotto was amazing! So tasty!
The blackened catfish was good – but not for me, however, the jambalaya was really good!
We came early around 6:15pm so it was still quiet. Things started to get busy around 7:30pm.
Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.
We went for Restaurant Week and had a delicious lunch. We had mussels and fries and the mussels were very good and a huge portion of fries. The service was top notch.
Thanks to Yelp! I found this great restaurant in the Rye area! I took some co-workers and they loved this place. I ordered the blue plate special which was the stuffed lobster. It was really good for the price 24.99.
The service was awesome. I truly recommend this restaurant. #SeñorFood
