Down the street from my girlfriends apartment so we needed a late meal. Walked past this diner and figured I'm from New Jersey, I love a good diner. I wouldn't say this was anywhere near some of the best diners I've been to, but it wasn't bad either. I had the chicken salad triple decker sandwich. It was pretty good, what you would expect from a diner I guess. I would come back if it was getting late and needed a quick bite.
A solid diner in Midtown East! It's small inside and for a Sunday morning, it was crowded for brunch. I ordered the Turkey Wrap with a side of chicken soup from Seamless and they were really quick to make my lunch. The wrap was massive and overly stuffed which was awesome, though I do wish it had more cheddar in it. The turkey was roasted turkey, Thanksgiving-style! I was expecting it to be like a cold cut so I was pleasantly surprised and they even warmed it up too! A side of gravy, please?!
The chicken soup was very good too. The Jew inside me was pleased. Overall it's a diner with a big menu, so you shouldn't expect much but if that's your craving, Morning Star it is! Prices are good, service is good, why not?
I love classic NYC diners and this is really one. Their breakfast sandwiches are really good as are the omelets. Went late night once and got the buffalo chicken fingers – ok but I think I'll be sticking to breakfast foods.
Hidden gem of a diner in Midtown East. This is the place to go if you need an elaborate menu and just a place to chill. I'm a big fan of staying in my area (lazy that I am), and I would highly recommend this diner. I come here for some unhealthy American fare. Last time I was there, I got chocolate milk, a waffle (with whipped cream, strawberries and chocolate chips) and curly fries. Can't go wrong with that meal!
The staff is also friendly! Will definitely be making regular trips to this place!
My boyfriend and I stopped here for breakfast before flying back home to Charlotte, NC. It's everything I'd expect in a diner: friendly service, typical diner fare, reasonable prices. The only reason for 4 stars (vs 5) is the service was slow; still very friendly, it just seemed to take way too long for things to move along.
They have a pretty extensive menu but we both ordered breakfast food. I did the Morning Star waffle with pecans, raisins, and whip cream; I also did a side of home fries and turkey bacon. My boyfriend had the Athena which was basically an omelette with fries cooked into it. Everything was delicious! The waffle and home fries were my favorite.
If you're looking for a no frills place to eat, at a relatively low price, Morning Star is a good bet.
My husband and I were looking for a good breakfast place, but couldn't find anything good on Yelp, so we decided to go for a walk. We were here to visit NY, so why not walk around and explore downtown? New York is a different place, I tell you. It's just got a different vibe than LA. Is it the environment? The people? I saw that people were always in a rush, so they're either speed walking or running. I got pushed around in the subway. They weren't trying to be mean. I think they just needed to get somewhere…and quick. If I was in their way, then they had no choice but to walk right through me. I thought I was fast paced, but I couldn't keep up with New York!
Anyway, we passed a few cafes, but they didn't have eggs, which I was in the mood for. I was about to give up and go into a coffee store and order a bagel when I saw this place. It's a cute little cafe, very quaint. I enjoyed the street view of the cafe where I saw people moving in next door, cars and taxis driving by, and people walking past.
I ordered tomato, basil, and mozzarella omelette ($9.95) and my husband ordered the country fried steak with 2 eggs ($10.95). My omelette could've used more salt and seasonings and my husband had too much salt and seasoning. What's good about this restaurant is the service. Our waiter was nice and frequently asked us how we were doing.
We wanted a 'diner' experience for breakfast at least once while being in New York and the Morning Star ticked that box wonderfully.
We sat in our little booth while being poured hot coffee and looked over what could possibly be the fullest menu I've ever seen! We choose short stacks, bacon, eggs, coffee… yet our selection was endless.
The service was super quick and very friendly, moderately priced and felt very authentic.
I'd highly recommend giving this place a go if you're looking for some good food on 2nd Avenue.
Hits the spot
Sometimes you just need a gyro platter in your life at 11 pm. The great thing about this place is that it is open 24/7 (except on Sundays), which is very rare for many sit down places in this area.
The food is pretty straightforward and is served in HUGE portions. Also, the restaurant is well kept with pretty decent service. I can't say too much more about the place, but check it out if you are drinking in the area and you need some french toast and home fries.
