Food trucks are one of those things that I don't quite understand. Specifically, food truck prices. In my mind, the entire point of having a truck (or a cart) is not just mobility, but also price. Your overhead is so much smaller, so shouldn't your food be cheaper than actual brick & mortar locations? No? Well, I tried.
I suppose being parked on the most expensive island around means you can charge $10 for a quesadilla. And I'm not even mad, because the Lomo Saltado Quesadilla from Morocho is DELICIOUS.
Stuffed with tender marinated steak, onions, scallions, cilantro, garlic, tomatoes, some soy and oyster sauce (I think that's the fusion)…it's cheesy, meaty, overflowing with flavor, and no doubt incredibly fattening.
It's almost big enough for two people to split it for lunch, so I guess it might even be worth $10.
I must say that I keep coming because I like the food. The lomo is a great meal – rice, protein, veggies and a great sauce that brings it all together for about $10-$12.
They also have tacos that are small but good. The shells are doubled but I am a petite girl and the two tacos are just not enough as a meal for me. Two tacos are $6.
The truck doesn't usually have a line like the others do in this area, but don't be fooled by that if you are in a rush. They make the food to order and the wait time can be in line with the busier trucks around.
On the plus side – they take credit cards which is nice.
If you like Peruvian food, the weather is nice and you have a few minutes to spare I would recommend giving this place a try.
So I tried this food car out today & it was a pleasant experience.
I got the pulled chicken in parmesan cheese with rice, onions, peppers cilantro and cilantro sauce. It was $12 for a basic portion.
The food was prepared well, presented nicely and tasted so delicious. I ate all my food in one sitting and enjoyed it. I wasn't a fan of the price I feel like it could have been worth it if it were $8 or $9 but $12 is a bit expensive.
All in all, if I'm really hungry I'd probably eat there again. There are a few other choices they sell pork, tacos and a steak dish. Maybe I will try the steak dish next.
What made me very happy was that they accepted credit card! I do not know of any food trucks that game card and apparently I've now found one! That's a great plus.
On top of that, the service was great. I was served in under 3 minutes and the employees were super nice. They each greeted me with a smile and asked me before they put anything on my food.
