  1. I can't comment on grocery prices, because I only went to the deli. (But I suppose it was all-in-all a bit expensive)

I was really a fan of all the pre-made, quick-grab options. I got a roast beef sandwich (they were out of egg salad, boo) and it was SO DELICIOUS. I like that I got to choose my own bread roll and bring to them. However, if it were a crowded lunch time that could be really annoying. This place is jam-packed.

The staff were all very nice and attentive. And despite that gross grocery store smell, it was surprisingly clean, and super well stocked and organized. (e.g. all the labels lined up)

  2. I could totally see how this supermarket has such low ratings. If this were my main supermarket, or even a market that I frequent to purchase food and such I would probably despite it – but my experience here is simply the times I've popped in to check out their hot bar offerings during my lunch hour at work.

I've had the following food items from their afternoon hot bar:

+   Buffalo chicken dumplings – SUUUUUUUUPER unimpressive – don't even bother.

+   Spare ribs – not awful – decent flavor since I got there when it was steaming and fresh…it was a day I didn't have my phone so unfortunately it's not pictured here.

+   Roast chicken – also has decent flavor, definitely erring on the drier side though.

+   Roasted potatoes – cooked nicely and seasoned with rosemary and thyme – actually really quite good!

+   Mac and cheese. – no complaints here really, I've had much worse – it was creamy as F*CK and creamy cheese is my friend.

Pricing for their hot bar is definitely more than it should be, but it's a nice change from delis since they have more hearty comfort foods on hand than most delis.

3 stars for "A-OK" seems to fit here for me…the non-supermarket area Morton Williams user, lol. #TeamHotBar #GetTheMacAndCheese

  3. There's a new standard for low and it happens to be right here at Morton Williams on Park. Is there a less desired supermarket not named Gristedes in Manhattan? If not, Morton's takes the crown as the worst in Gramercy.

Haters gone' hate, but a series of experiences from the afternoon till the wee hours of the morning/night have me on the less than happy bandwagon. Painful prices, unkept produce (especially during late night hours) and terrible service all have me dreading any visit here.

I understand the pricing situation is a Manhattan problem, but it's not uncommon to blow $40 for a couple of cartons of juice/milk, two dozen eggs, some bread, and spreads. Whole Foods at least has the organic thing going on, but MW still thinks coconut water is $7. There are some deals here and there, you just have to really look for them.

The staff, like at any supermarket will vary, but most of my encounters have been with folks with an attitude. Being rude shouldn't be a common problem and neither should a slow cashier (most painful at night when there is no one else in front of you in line). I will often ask a question to find something and be given an "ugh" expression while they attempt to find my items in their poorly labeled shelves.

Why pay more for groceries with a grumpy staff in a store that doesn't have its act together? No thank you.

  4. Morton Williams is a new experience for me as I grew up more with ShopRites and Pathmark supermarkets.  MW is definitely more expensive, but I noticed their fruits and produce are fresher as well.  The higher price tag is worth it based on the improved quality, IMO.

Other than the improved quality (and it isn't amazing quality, just better than regular, but still under Whole Foods), there really isn't anything special that MW is offering.
