Mozzarella & Vino

“Tasty new option near MoMA from the owners of (and in the old space of ) Il Abbocatto.”

“For the price point, the serving sizes were great, as well.”

“It also wasn't very crowded on a weekend night during December, I bet due to it being set away from the hustle and bustle and more touristy areas.”

  1. My friends and I came across Mozzarella & Vino on a rainy Saturday afternoon after a day at the MOMA. What a gem!

    FACILITY
The restaurant and bathroom are very clean. The decor is simple and upscale. They have an adorable garden room in the back.

    GOODS
The food was super fresh. We were not very hungry, so we ordered a bottle of wine and 3 appetizers. We found it filling among the 3 of us. We ordered the following:
    1. The "Panzanella" is a Tuscan salad of poached tuna, tomatoes, cucumber, breadcrumbs, capers and olives. This size was reasonable for 2-4 people as an appetizer. It paired very well with our wine.
    2. The calamari was as exceptional as other yelpers reported. It was airy and crispy, not oily and flappy.
    3. Cheese and meat board was pretty good. We had a small dallop of fig jam. I found it very small. My friends and I each took a pinky nail size so we each could taste it. The platter also included pumpernickel bread, about 10 blueberries, a few almonds, parmigiano reggiano cheese, prosciutto, and salami.
    4. The white wine Per Linda Trebbiano d'Abruzzo was crisp and delicious. I like sweet wines, while my friends prefer the drier varieties. We were all pleased with this wine.

  2. After visiting the MoMA, we stumbled upon Mozzarella and Vino just outside. The menu looked delicious, so we decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did–this was a truly lovely meal.

The restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere. If it isn't too busy, ask to be seated at a table vs a booth–the booths aren't as comfortable as they look.

Our server was very friendly and attentive, and gave great recommendations of wine pairings.

The food and wine here was delicious. For the price point, the serving sizes were great, as well. Try the tomato soup; it is made with bread and basil in the recipe, and has a nice texture. Also, try the cheeses–you get a great amount of each cheese, and they have a lot of different types.

Overall: this is a great spot! If I were in the neighborhood again I would definitely re-visit Mozzarella and Vino.

  3. Lovely lovely little restaurant with an extremely classy, romantic atmosphere that's perfect for a date or anniversary. It's very quiet so if you're looking to go somewhere with a group of friends for a laugh, this is not the place. The location is extremely convenient, right off the 5th Avenue shops and 200m from the Hilton Midtown hotel. The staff are extremely nice and let diners stay past the 10pm closing time without even saying a thing. Our waiter was even encouraging us to order desert at 10:21pm. So, so impressed!

The food was also delicious! We had fried zhuchini as an appetiser (yum) and I had the mozzarella rolls with eggplant and sundries tomato. It was extremely fresh and light, yet filling – exactly what I needed as I was still a little full from brunch. Do try both meals of you come here!

  4. The paninis are a must. The food in general is flavourful and not salty. The waiter who took care of us was a very nice guy, very attentive and helpful. For my speaking Spanish friends he basically translated all the fancy words into things they could relate.

We had a baby and they try to accommodate our table location for the stroller space. That same day we went to other restaurants in the area and we had to leave because they didn't let us in with the baby stroller. However, at mozzarella and vino we asked first and the manager said yes immediately, (well I think he was the manager.)

When we finished dinner they gave us complimentary almond chocolate biscotti, they were so good.

The restaurant also has a back garden and it's very pretty, perfect for a romantic and casual summer dinner.

I'll definitely go back and I hope the keep the good work.

  5. Terrible food, slow service. There is nothing authentic about this place, they shouldn't be calling themselves an Italian restaurant. Since when do you put mushrooms in lasagna? Not even fresh mushrooms, CANNED mushrooms, believe me, I could taste the difference. I ate it because I was hungry. Waste of $20. My friend was not told her entree would come on a bed of greens so she ordered a salad unnecessarily. My other friend's veal entree was the biggest disappointment…it was just a few shaved slices on a plate – poor guy had to eat two baskets of bread to get full. Do not even think of stepping foot in here. Probably the worst restaurant I've been to in NY thus far.

  6. If you are GF, this is not your restaurant. I called in advance and they said they could do GF penne. But once there they said no.

So my wife had to settle for a burger no bun. She asked for medium rare and got medium well done. The fries were not crisp on the outside.

I had the calamari which was outstanding.

Service was 3. The guy behind us had to ask for his soup 3-4 times over a 15 minute period before he got his order.

  7. We came here on a MOMA break, to rest mind and body mid way through the museum.  Adorable little place with a very European vibe. It was 2 of us and our request to sit outside was denied because they had no more tables for 2 out there .. Though they had 3 or 4 empty tables with 4 chairs. Oh well.  We each has a glass of wine. I had the minestrone soup and my companion had the mozz/Tom/basil panini.  We also shared the fried zucchini. Everything was delicious including the complementary bread!! My soup was a large portion and (I checked) totally vegetarian. No sneaky chicken broth here. Loaded with diced veggies. The aforementioned bread dipped in the broth creates bites of perfection. The panini was great too. Pretty good sized and yum yum yummy mozz! The zucchini was out of this world good. Sliced thin like matchsticks kinda and lightly breaded and fried. Not overly oily. Completely addictive. we finished with a macchiato and latte. The service was outstanding. My only complaint is the prices. My soup was $12. tho the portion was big, it's soup, guys. Panini was same price. Zucchini was $10. The real killer? Those coffee were $5.50 each. I wouldn't have ordered,  had I known.  Coffee was served with little almond biscotti at least. It was a great lunch but the prices were a little steep, I felt.

  8. this is the shit for less than 200 bucks for 4 people.  great across the board.. bigger place than you'd think.  Save room for the panna cotta and select your own meat a cheese plates
