  1. I have to lead with the fact that I haven't been to the Astoria location so I can't comment on how this compares to the original, but if the original is really way better– I have to get myself to Astoria.

Came here for a birthday dinner with my parents and we shared everything. All the food was vibrant, fresh and flavorful; my parents thought everything was a little salty but they are old fogeys so take that with a grain of salt (ha!).

    Got everything to share
The tarama and the feta dip were both excellent. Tarama is less roe-y than I've had at other establishments but that just makes it so you can really taste the olive oil. Spicy feta dip comes with roasted red peppers and caramelized onions and is flavorful. Pita bread is really well charred. Octopus was great. The cod and ricotta was one of my favorite dishes of the night. The mussels are incredibly sweet and cooked perfectly. We split the mixed grill and the paella as entrees and I'm willing to give three stars alone to the fact that the meat was cooked perfectly- still pink, so it was juicy and delicious.

Finally, they accidentally sent us an order of the meatballs which they noticed of their own accord we didn't order, then comped us and we didn't even have to remind them when the bill came.

  2. So it goes without saying the food is somewhat phenomenal.
Great Greek dishes with a bit of a modern twist.
But I will tell you why I gave this a 3 star rating before I get into the food

Service for me was lacking. I was shocked at how empty the place was on a Saturday night. I made reservations and was a bit early. The host asked if we'd like to sit by a window or closer to the exit. We opted for the window. He said okay and that table would be ready soon. 5 minutes table is ready. Great but he Never really specified what table just said it would be ready. Then came back and said "its ready you want to go ahead and sit?" But kind of like said it and walked away to the kitchen. And I think to myself there's no way he just told us to go sit at a table and not take us to the table without menus? So he comes out of the kitchen and says "so do you want to sit at that table?" He doesn't point, doesn't walk us there so we start making our way to "the table" what table who knows. I'm thinking maybe that's the way they do it here. Nope! Another server notices we are a little lost wandering there are so many tables to choose from! Like I said it was empty! Maybe 3 tables to serve tops. So the server explains oh the host probably meant this table if it's by the window.
The rest of the night I didn't let that stop me from enjoying the delicious food!

However one more interaction with the host really did it for me. He stops by our table to take our menus and I ask if we could keep one menu. We weren't done ordering we had just ordered appetizers. Why wouldn't anyone be remotely happy or even friendly knowing your customers want to keep a menu and possibly order more food. He didn't even seem to be interested he didn't acknowledge my question he merely had a really bad attitude about it and walked away. As if I was asking him for a huge favor LOL. Everyone at my table noticed it was super unpleasant. That reason alone would stop me from ever going to MP in Williamsburg.

Now to the good part food was spectacular
Octopus must have been the best cooked octopus we've ever had. My family and I are octopus enthusiasts. my father was a cook at a greek restaurant so we know good octopus. This was more than good it was grand!
I'm not a fan of chickpeas but the chickpeas and white beans are absolutely delicious!

I ordered baby lamb chops and those were cooked to perfection.

Pasta with the "prawn" was pasta super al dente with shrimp we really didn't like that dish at all. (Chi–something it's called) table next to us left the entire plate of this order. Not the best thing on the menu. Steer away.

Lamb burger is seasoned spectacularly! So flavorful.

Souvlaki was meh nothing outstanding really about it. I wouldn't order this ever at MP. But the mash fries were really something!

So overall okay dining experience. Some food stood out and others wouldn't make the cut again. I wouldn't visit the Williamsburg location ever again. Maybe I'll give the other MP locations another round.

  3. Run don't walk. Wow. Lovely interior.  Super nice host, knowledgeable about beer. And many many different beers to choose from.  Wines too.

Greek village salad, roasted scallops , chicken souvlaki. Galaktoboureko and Greek coffee.

    Utter perfection. Seriously.

  4. I went to MP about a month ago and I was really happy I did. The restaurant was spacious beautiful and romantic. The food was delicious and fresh. We came a little early so we were promptly seated but with in a half hour it started to get busy. I would def make a reservation.

We looked over the menu and decided on

Meatballs with tzatziki and warm pita- crunchy and juicy on the inside. Just perfect! It comes with a cucumber garlicky yogurt sauce and lemon to squeeze over with nice warm pita. Perfect size to share.

Eggplant caponata- Again enough to share and so delicious it has just enough garlic. it also has peppers and onions and has a sweetness to it from the roasted eggplant. This also comes with warm pita

Scallops- one word DELICIOUS!  This comes with cauliflower, dried cherries in brown butter.. I had this as an entree. The scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned..

We also ordered the mixed grilled which came with lamb and steak with some veg splashed with lemon to brighten the greasiness. This was my least favorite.

For sides we ordered the twice baked potato. We thought this was different then what was written. We didn't think it was dry fries. Womp  womp
We also ordered mushrooms. This def made up for the fries! My god this was amazing really great! a MUST ORDER!! I would have ordered more but it was a huge portion.

Over all a great restaurant I will def visit again to order different entrees .

  5. Yay, some good Greek/Mediterranean in my hood!

I've passed MP Taverna many times on my way back from Yoga to the People, and was happy to finally have an excuse to try it when Café Mogador was reaching over an hour wait during early dinner.

Between three girls, we were trying to eat on the hearty but lighter side (you know…caloriesss), so we split a few items. Perfect amount of (delicious) food for all of us.

We started with the combo dip. I need to spend a hot minute on this dip combo, because one of the best appetizers and combination of spreads I've had. You get a good portion, plus PLENTY of pita (let's face it…that's always an issue).

If I were to rank the dips from least fave to most fave:

4 – Hummus: really good hummus, but I'm still learning to re-introduce hummus in my life after my Israel trip and hummus overdose.

    3 – Tzatziki: no complaints

2 – Spicy feta: not like other spicy feta dips. Nice kick to it and different consistency (like more of a dip than chunks of feta), but amazing.

1 – Tarama: this was my introduction to tarama. And confirmation that I need this dip more frequently in my life. It was addicting.

Following our binge fest on that, we had the octopus (tender, flavorful) and a side of the peppers (nice char son).

Decently far enough from the Bedford L to miss the crowds.

  6. We ordered the Octopus app and the scallops. Both were amazing.  The scallops were particularly my favorite… The spinach was perfect as were the scallops. We ordered the tuna special as an entree. Wasn't my favorite, but it also won't stop me from coming back.  Service and atmosphere were A+!

  7. Truth: I heard only bad reviews about MP Taverna from family friends, so I tried not to come here. But 3 weeks ago I went with my friend for just a drink and hummus at the bar. Loved the hummus so I figured why not give it a try. The first come I came with my friend I feel in love with the inside structure itself– It's huge but very warm not the cold feeling you normally get.
    Decor:
It has just the right amount of tables with chairs and booth seating. Love the glass windows that go all around and extend from the floor to the ceiling.
The way it's designed with the seats it's not spaced into a circle which I love since your voice will not travel thru out the enitre space. Directly in the center is a booth allowing the space to be closed over and even tho I was in the middle of the room honestly i felt like no one was around me. Huge stars for that!! This task is impossible to have done correctly.

Food: (most Importantly) Over my 3 time visit I have tried the following:
I like to go in groups of 3 just so we can all try each others dished– Get the most out of the dinner/brunch experiences.
    – The Spicy feta is most likely my favorite.
    – The hummus is also amazing!

    From the main:
    – Roasted Sea Scallops
    – Crispy Cod & Ricotta
    – Grandma's Meatball— My Grandma never made this kinds of meatballs– It's heaven in your mouth!!!!
    – Ravioli
    – Pork Sandwich

They are all amazing– I'm so glad I got to try all the dishes.

The brunch was also amazing– I have the egg s Florentine with smoked salmon and to my surprise I had 3 on my plate– Most places just serve 2 which was a little treat in itself. Obviously I was not able to eat that much so I gave one to my fiance, and I also got to try his Cast iron breakfast– Loved it but that would be way to much for me!!!

Over all I am so happy that this place is opened and I didn't listen to the negative reviews otherwise I would be greatly missing out.

Other bonus they have a huge hall for parties on the other side– I need to plan an event ASAP!!

  8. Came here for happy hour about a week ago.

Good deal with happy hour from 3 to 8 pm! 🙂 The bartender was explaining how well organized the bar is, which is cool. She was nice. The prices were great.

The restaurant is spacious, nicely decorated and lit.

The food smells amazing and will definitely come back to try it.
