A Montclair classic. We have been doing take out pizza here for decades. Ate there with little kids, years ago when it was on its original corner location too. But just ordered veal Marsala take out dinner for first time. Nice. But our favorite: large cheese Dino pizza. Left over slices for lunch next day, yes!
I often find myself eating both dinner and lunch here. I'll go in for lunch and then order in for dinner. I can't think of a single pizza place where I would also order pasta and dinner dishes. This place makes incredible food beyond the pizza. The pizza is phenomenal with excellent timely delivery service throughout the entire town of Montclair, but IMHO nothing beats the crispiness of a reheated slice when you come in to sit down. The owners are very Italian, which makes for interesting interactions in such a WASPy location. That being said, they are respectful and accommodating + they just remodeled the interior. Just look out for when the high school kid gets dispatched to mop the floor. The chemicals will spoil your food, and you should take the hint – it's the Bum Rush. Time to leave!
I've been around the block as far as pizza is concerned and I mean, all the way around the block. I grew up in Brooklyn – I know what good pizza is, but there is a clarification to be made. The so-called "best" pizza these days is never traditional pizza like we used to pay 50 cents for, it's Americanized spin-offs on the original down and dirty slice.
Mr. Dino likes to get down old school and if you don't get that, you may spend some time complaining on Yelp about the service or the delivery. There is something to be said for a place that's been around for this long, still doing what they do, the way they want to. I grab a couple slices at least once a week and am never disappointed. I actually much prefer getting the pizza either there or to go, than a pie delivery. It just seems that the perfect heating temperature is achieved when you wait for it there. You can quickly shovel it down without burning yourself and this is a big deal.
This is pizza the way it was intended – original, no nonsense and not concerned in any way with treating every patron like a king. Just order your pizza, wait and enjoy it. If you want some hyped up, fabricated pizza of the century head back in to Brooklyn and pay 4x as much. Or you could just take a seat at Mr. Dino's, enjoy a couple slices and be home in 15 minutes. It's really up to you.
Originally from Brooklyn these guys have the right formula and know how to put out great food. We have been coming here for over 7 years before they remodeled and never a bad experience.
One of the few pizzerias that give you larger pepperonis on your pizza..2010s Glen Ridge Pizza Challenge Winners, Iron Chef #1 Pepperoni.
Love..Love..Love…Bakedt Ziti, Meatball Parm etc. All good and delicious. The Team here are always pleasant to interact with. They know many people by first name so its easy to say they have plenty regulars.
$15 Minimum charge on Credit Cards. 3 TVs to view…And cool music during your eating pleasure.
I've had pizza from Mr. Dino's periodically over the last 19 years and it has not changed a bit. Not the most spectacular or exciting pizza, but it's good. And consistent. Worthy of 3 stars. The garlic knots are greasy and amazing and an order (5 or 6 knots) is super cheap.
This pizzeria gets the extra star because it's possibly the best restaurant in Montclair to bring kids. It's bright, the floors, tables, and chairs are always clean, the layout is spacious, and the counter servers are so accommodating when I bring the 2-year-old girl I babysit. The servers have always been happy to cut her pizza into bite-sized pieces and give me extra cups, never seeming annoyed by my requests, and they were not bothered that one time she attempted to take her clothes off by the counter. Oops.
Thanks, I know I can always count on Dino's!
