I think I got completely ripped off here, and the cashier managed to mess up every part of my order. The croissant was decent and the coffee strong, but $17 seems vastly overpriced for two breakfasts.
Just had an impromptu brunch here when we didn't feel like waiting for peaches hotshop and needed to find another viable option in the area. I was skeptical at first- it's a small cafe with a rather limited menu. But the food and service turned my whole mood around. I was having a not so great morning and coming here made me feel a lot better. I had the Lena Horne- egg whites with spinach and bacon on a buttermilk biscuit, along with the ginger honey iced tea. I honestly didn't have high expectations but everything was delicious! My bf had the chicken and waffles, and I had a few bites. We both agreed it was the best chicken and waffles we'd had- and we have it often! The service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and casual. I'd definitely check this spot out again next time I'm in the area.
The best shrimp n' grits that I have ever had. 4 star rating for that dish alone.
There are many reasons to adore this cafe (vibe, outdoor patio seating, the cakes and pastries). You will not be served in a NY minute at Ms. Dahlia's… but that is part of the charm. My sister was visiting from Durham, North Carolina – and we felt like we were on Southern time. We put in our order, drank the cucumber lemonade and chatted for awhile while our food was prepared. The vibe is such that you are forced. to. just. chill.
I LOVE how they have samples of their baked goods in front. The banana bread was unbelievable. I can't wait to come back for a slice of one of their cakes. You can tell they are homemade, moist, and packed with fresh ingredients.
When the shrimp n' grits came, my sister and I devoured it. We shared one and an employee came over to tell us that she loved that we were sharing, since the portion is huge. I concur. We were starving and we still couldn't finish the one dish. What I loved about the shrimp was the gravy – one part jerk, one part hint of curry and various other seasonings. The grits are mixed with parmesan cheese, so it was an unlikely pairing. I will say that the ratio was a bit off – too much grits to gravy. Nonetheless, I would return for this dish again.
The biscuit left us wanting more… I was at Pies n' Thighs last weekend and those biscuits just pop. However, spouse has said that when you put honey and butter on Ms. Dahlia's biscuit, it's better.
(Spouse had the Lena Horne and said it was pretty good – but he wouldn't order it again due to the swiss cheese. It's way too bland of a cheese to incorporate with the other ingredients. Spouse and sister *loved* the turkey bacon.)
I've probably been to Ms. Dahlia's Cafe a dozen times before the rustic interior renovation, and one time after it. Always good food but slow and you-never-know-what-you're-gonna-get service.
I went in with my son for a blueberry muffin and a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Of course they got the order wrong and gave it to me on a biscuit. I believe they charge extra for the croissant so that mistake is pretty much unforgivable and should never happen.
I could've taken the time to go there and exchange it but it took so long to get the sandwich in the first place that I'd run out of time to do anything but get my butt on the train to work.
I'd like to try the biscuits and gravy though, so I'll be back.
Very quaint place. Mom & Pop cafe vibe with delicious food! Pricey but delicious. I usually go with my kids for brunch and literally order 2 entrees and 2 drinks for us to share and never spend less than $40 every time. Sometimes the food justifies the price sometimes it doesn't quit add up. We've had the biggie breakfast with chicken sausage, very kid friendly meal. Flavors kids are familiar with and used to and it's enough for 2 little ones to split. Chicken & waffles, a brunch staple- the first few times I ordered it was perfection and the last few times not so much chicken was fried way too hard. Shrimp and grits which is mine and my daughters fav dish is very good. It's Cajun so be prepared to need something cool to drink by the 5/6th bite! The dish is served with a biscuit topped with your egg and turkey bacon (which was cooked super well done today, basically inedible) I always get excited when that extra plate comes out!

The actual service needs some help big time. I've noticed there are usually about 5ppl total working at a time- a cook, sous cook, cashier, and maybe 2 prep ppl. The orders take some time to prepare which is fine with me if we don't come on a completely empty stomach. My real problem is as small as this place is I always have to ask someone to wipe down or clear dishes from one of the 4 tables I want to sit at. When you are done eating you are asked to leave your dirty dishes on the counter and I've seen dirty plates sit for the entirety of my stay. If someone decides to sit at that counter they'd be staring at dirty plates. Also on the counter is the condiments and silverware and the last few times I've had to ask for a fork and knife because either they were empty or there were only spoons. Someone needs to really be on top of those little things and keeping tidiness a priority! They can definitely continue to improve and I'll be coming for breakfast occasionally while they do.
Wonderful place! The food was great! My only complaint would be the seating here. It's very quaint but if you go on a weekday for brunch you should find seating. We also had the cucumber lemonade it was pretty tasty different but tasty. If you're in the neighborhood stop in and have a biscuit.
This is a welcomed transplant off of bustling Nostrand and Fulton Ave. This cute cafe is an extension of your Brooklyn apartment. It's cozy and best part is they have an expresso machine. If you happen to grab a stool at the counter you will be face to face with your breakfast being made. They offer hot full breakfast, warm pastries along with fresh juices and coffee. I looove my caffeinated beverages and the latte here definitely made the cut.
Although I have many good things to say, I thought my Biggie breakfast was a tad bit average. It was good but seemed like it could be achieved by myself at home. I prefer more kick ass flavor that reminds me why I don't cook more at home.
This cafe is a cool go to place if you want a homemade type of meal that's light and different from the others options in the area.
This is such a cute little place! A friend and I had brunch here one morning while visiting Bedstuy. I ordered the Lena Horn and a macchiato. The macchiato was super authentic and the food was delicious. A little pricey, but I can see myself visiting this place more. I'll probably try the chicken and waffles next time!
