Final verdict at the outset of the post: apps/mains are great, dessert seems like it just third-party treats, while service can be spotty post-main course. That said, I'll emphasis that the food was great, and the service was fine through the 'hunger' stages of the meal.
We were offered a small spout bowl and hot towel even before we ordered, which was quite nice and accommodating. For starters, we ordered the seabass special, the beef negimaki, and broiled squid. The squid was fantastic, perfectly good – and the beef negimaki was also really delightful. In comparison, the seabass seemed a bit underwhelming, maybe just underseasoned compared to the other two dishes.
For mains, we order the Pink Lady Roll, the Take Roll, the L.I.C. roll, with the salmon skin roll to share (all brown-riced, an option I always appreciate – especially when down well). All the rolls were super tasty, with no leftovers (a rarity for me).
Service was a bit spotty after our main course, perhaps because of table conversation, but it took some prodding to offered dessert, which all looked pre-bought, but ice cream is still ice cream, so we had some of that.
All in all, a solid, decently priced sushi joint in LIC.
The salmon bento box was delicious! The service was great and the ambiance is really nice and relaxing. Would definitely return.
After drinks last night my friends and I were hungry, so after some quick Yelping we found this place.
Murasaki is a small Japanese restaurant and sushi bar. When we arrived it wasn't crowded so we were seated right away. The decor was typical Asian restaurant with a black color scheme; a highlight was the falling water fountain upon entry. They started us with a small plate of picked cabbage, and for apps we went with the fried oysters and two orders of Japanese croquettes (one order of corn and one order of pumpkin). The oysters were fried perfectly, but the croquettes left something to be desired; they really didn't have much flavor, all I tasted was the potato.
They have a number of mains, including individual sushi rolls, sushi entrees, and non-sushi dishes. I decided get a bento box, which came with steamed veggies, fried sashimi, a California roll, your choice of rice (I chose brown) and your choice of protein (I chose shrimp tempura). I was super impressed with the box – the shrimp were large and presented beautifully, the veggies were crisp, and overall the whole dish was super fresh and tasty.
Service was good – everyone was really friendly and overall I had a great meal.
I stopped by here for lunch and ordered off the regular menu instead of the lunch special menu. The fish in the chirashi box was pretty so-so. The tuna, salmon and other fish lacked flavor and freshness. My husband ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box lunch special. It looked all right and tasted decent. If you are in the mood for Americanized Japanese food, this place might be up your alley. For those looking for authentic flavors and freshness, Hibino would definitely be the best option in the area.
I really enjoyed this sushi spot. The service and food were good. Prices were reasonable, the atmosphere is nice, and the menu had a lot to offer. What really sent things over the edge for me were the hot towels they give you to wash your hands before your meal. That was my very first sushi spa experience! Nothing is better. I would come back just for that alone!!! … Sort of kidding, but not really. It is a good Sushi/Japanese option in the area though. I think it would make a good date spot as well. Nice and quiet, and couples everywhere! Bitter single people beware…
This is our first time ordering take-out from them. Took about 40min from Vernon to Court Square. We ordered the Geso Karage (fried squid legs), Roll combo, and the Cooked Roll combo.
The Geso Karage was such a disappointment, tiny order of tentacles, soggy upon arrival, under seasoned, and just didn't taste good at all.
The Roll combo was average, exactly as expected. Though they gave a lot of avocado.
The Cooked roll combo was just okay as well. The description said broiled smoked salmon but it was clearly just smoked salmon, so make sure you're able/want to eat smoked fish. The Spicy Kani roll was overly smoky flavor and way too salty.
My biggest complaint is that the rice on the rolls weren't seasoned at all, it tasted of just plain white jasmine rice. It's really too bad they weren't better cuz this neighborhood needs another Japanese restaurant that isn't too pricey.
I have to say I am not much impressed by this new sushi place. Beside the excitement of this new restaurant, and the lovely setup/atmosphere, food is so so. I ordered teriyaki salmon, with rice and miso soup. The salmon was cleared overlooked, the rice is not Japanese sushi rice, but southern Chinese version, and the miso soup was good, but in such a tiny bowl!
Come here frequently
I am happy that they are in the neighborhood. The other sushi options are inferior.
I have come here a lot of times and I can't remember anything that was bad.
Particular favorite of mine is the rainbow sushi
