Save the singing and dancing, soccer games and fish tanks for other takes on a diner in NYC – when you are just looking for extremely burnt (by design) corned beef hash, a few poached eggs and a coffee, look no further than the Murray Hill Diner.
Everything a diner should be – simple, cheap, quick, and stocked with seemingly endless carafe's of coffee.
The service was quick! We went on a Sunday morning for breakfast and did not wait to be seated and had a full cup of coffee at all times. I ordered bacon egg and cheese with a side of "French fries" but was given "home fries" which is something I am not a fan of… However my sandwich was great, my mom loved her blueberry pancakes and my dad had no complaints on his food. Over all it was a great time spent together!
My friend and I stopped by Murray Hill Diner for a bite to eat after a morning of shopping. We ordered two cups of coffee, and the cheese blintzes to share. The coffee was diner-quality A-OK, but the blintzes left a lot to be desired. Fried and resembling spring rolls from a Chinese restaurant of similar quality (relatively poor, that is), part of the filling was still cold, and they only tasted decent with dollops of sour cream.
Sadly, it was my friend's first experience with blintzes, and now she *strongly* dislikes them.
But we are in New York City, and there will be future opportunities for better ones!
Next customer, please… The mood in here is more like in a supermarket than in a restaurant, at least during our visit. Uninspired staff, The food was OK though, my omelette was tasty and juicy and the coffee was also good. Put a little more effort into the service and the place is worth 4 stars.
I have walked past Murray hill diner so many times. I can't believe I have never eaten here. I came here with friends that were I town for breakfast. At 10am on a Tuesday the place was busy.
As soon as we walked in the hostess promptly sat us and the waitress came over. Murray hill diner is just a good diner. The menu has everything you can think of. The cooks will make you anything you want, it's funny. I noticed a lot of regulars in here talking and saying hi to everyone. This is just a good spot.
I came here for breakfast. My hot tea was good. I also ordered 2 eggs and bacon on toast. It was very good and was actually too hot to eat when I received my plate. The hostess and waitress was very attentive.
Overall. I can't believe I have walked by Murray hill diner so many times and never have stopped in here. I will defiantly be back. It's a good local neighborhood spot. I highly recommend
Had we arrived 10 minutes later at ~8:30 on a Sunday morning, we likely wouldn't have gotten a seat this place gets packed. It is steps from my friend's new apartment, and so she frequents it like no one's business lately since she's since kitchen-less. The breakfast specials are quite affordable, so I can see why it's such a good deal. It's your standard diner fare, except they have yummy multigrain toast! Oooh, what midtown madness do we have going on here?! Since I can never decide between sweet and savory, I got one of the egg platters plus a basic stack of pancakes. The pancakes were that fluffy, almost brittle/breaks apart on your fork kind that you find in diners, which was good for what it was (and for my hungry stomach). The blemish was the sticky syrup, which they must reheat because it doesn't pour out and spread properly. Otherwise, food was to my liking and is a great choice for a fast, filling meal in the area. And there's something quaintly New York about a good 'ol diner on a Sunday morning with locals, tourists, beat cops frequenting its tattered vinyl booths.
This is a great diner for hot and hearty breakfast food at a bargain price. I'm semi obsessed w their breakfast sausage.
We were on a mission to find a diner that was a walking distance from the hotel and we finally did on the last day. Murray Hill is your typical small family diner that serves the typical coffee and breakfast platters. I personally really liked it! The people were very nice and polite, the food was good but i wished the fried eggs was cooked more and not over easy or at least i wish they asked how i wanted to be cooked, because it ended up getting a bit messy! I didn't mind the meal that much but other customers might be more picky than me, so just a thought! If I'm in the city again I would love to come back.
