  1. Friendly and unpretentious neighborhood bakery that will also make you a fine sandwich, burrito, or custom salad.

Nice extras: The seats at the window counter are prime for keeping an eye on street life. The prices are excellent, leaning East Harlem as opposed to Upper East Side, (although accessible to both). Look on the rack near the back to find unexpected homemade chips, crackers, and sweet assortments.

Tons of appealing pastries in the front counter, ranging from hamentaschen to rice pudding to creme brûlée, to French-style macarons, to good ole chocolate chip cookies. And bread like pumpernickel-raisin and baguettes.

Negatives: The plain croissants don't have the flakiness they should (maybe they had just been sitting around for too long?). Things are a bit slow, but I find that flaw forgivable when a nice folks are making me a sandwich with care and attention.

  2. This is a super cute little cafe that has a great selection of baked goods, mini cakes, cookies as well as sandwiches, salads and breakfast food. I've been a few times and the staff here is always super friendly and happy. I'm not a coffee drinker but my friend loves their coffee here. I've ordered breakfast sandwiches as well as their omelette and it was very good. The prices here are beyond reasonable and there's free wifi.

  3. We stopped in here on the way home from a very taxing weekend. BECs and SECs were on point, though I probably would've eaten anything at that point to soak up the alcohol still permeating my intestines. Bagels were also good, as were the pastry and coffee. Shit, I eat a lot when I'm hungover. Would return.

  4. Counter service is a little slow. You go to the counter, order, pay and have a seat. I was told I would be called when it was ready. The man that appeared to be in charge was very nice. I asked where I get napkins. He went to the counter to get me napkins and came back with my food!
As for my order of a turkey club, no tomato, on multi grain bread, it had tomato. I watched her write "no tomato" on the ticket. I guess they didn't bother to read it. It was supposed to have bacon. If that was bacon it came in the form of a sandwich meat. Regardless of how it looked, the sandwich tasted delicious. Or I was hungry! I pulled the tomato off naturally. The sweet potato chips were a treat. Crunchy and not greasy.
Shorty after noon the place filled up. I saw that people wait a while for their food. It isn't a quick eat place.
It was reasonably clean. The floor needed a few things swept up. My table could have been wiped down more.
In summary, I enjoyed the food, fairly friendly, welcoming atmosphere and  reasonable price. Will I return? The jury is out on that count. I'll see what my stomach tells me in a few hours! I may be headed to Rite Aid for the TUMS!!

  5. I've only ever had the red velvet muffin, but every time I've had it, it was great, and now I crave it. I've not had problems with the service, the coffee is strong, and they were open on Labor Day, so four stars it is!

  6. This is a nice little gentrified addition to El Barrio.
Located a few steps from housing projects, this cafe is surprisingly good.
I was a little hesitant to try this place– I mean, it looks huge and their pastries look cloyingly sweet. However, I was proven wrong.
Pastries aren't overly sweet– apple turnover and coconut macaroon were awesome and fresh.
Coffee is also REALLY good– definitely a great brew. AND at least they offer soy milk at no extra cost.

OH and there's a bakery in the back– you can actually check out the dudes making cakes at the back. I love watching people bake…. for maybe a good 5 minutes and then I'm bored. But it's a cool 5 minutes regardless.

Check this place out if you're in the mood for coffee and something sweet & you happen to be in the area!

  7. Fresh baked goods in a beautiful neighborhood of east harlem.

Very fond of the rugleach , yumm loves when it taste soft.

The brownies are good but a little too sweet.

I hear the sandwhiches are very good here. Will try them out soon.

  8. Actually happened upon this place looking for a bathroom to use and assumed I probably wouldn't be able to use the restroom w/o buying something, so I ordered a danish and had some milk with it.  My friend had a few pastries as well, and I have to say, I'm glad I ran into this place because I really enjoyed my order.  The staff was extremely friendly to us, and accommodated my order for milk(they didn't really sell small cartons, so they poured me some and charged me a small price for it)

Very cozy looking and had I been hungrier, would've probably had a lunch item, which looked really good.
