N Thai Palace

“After that we had black pepper chicken, drunken noodles, pineapple fried rice and mango chicken…all of which was amazing.”

“I'm a fan of the chocolate parfait (which is more of a kind of chocolate ice cream in mint sauce), while most people like the coconut fried ice cream.”

“Everything we had was great except the bananas in the fried ice cream didn't seem ripe/sweet enough.”

  1. Came here for lunch – group of 5. We were seated right away, but we also has a reservation. Regardless though, we probably didn't need a reservation for lunch, there was a decent number of tables available.

Lunch took long to come out, but it was worth every second. We ordered the blackened chicken, chicken cashew, coconut shrimp, and rice – all family style. Everything was delicious! Just the right amount of flavor on everything. To top it off – desserts were also amazing. My favorite was the coconut fried ice cream. Yum!

  2. Came here a few weeks ago with a large-ish group for a late lunch, some members of which were running the late. The waiter was honest and said that we should all order shortly as they close the kitchen at 3:00 pm on weekdays before their dinner runs. The group ordered a variety of dishes which were passed around, and it was a tough contest to pick a favorite. I was recommended by an N Thai veteran to get the pina colada and others ordered mango lassis, which were also excellent and served in these tall undulating glasses.

One thing that stood out and that I wasn't expecting was the level of detail in decor for their dishes. For example, the drinks came adorned with a paper umbrella, cantaloupe wedge and maraschino cherry. All the entrees had immaculately sculpted flowers from radishes, carrots and cabbages.

The portions were only slightly larger than average sized, but importantly most of the orders were lunch specials. For a fixed price you could get a soup or salad and an entree. I noticed that there were also various specials advertised in the window (student, senior, ladies' discounts).

Overall, a solid restaurant with delicious food and good service.

  3. Wow! Went back after a long time and super happy that I did! Try the following: tom yum soup, Black pepper chicken, thai beef and chicken drunken noodles were amazing! Each one of them. My favorite of all the dishes I tried was black pepper chicken.

A relative of mine had red curry and it lacked the usual red curry thai taste but it was still good..

the cashew chicken also was pretty good..
The chicken satay was good as well- a great starter/appetizer for kids to eat as dinner.

Finally, the fried ice cream was good however it had WAY too much coconut shavings underneath the dough .. And it made it inedible after 6 or so bites…

I will absolutely continue to be back for dinner.

This place gets packed as its the only halal thai in the area… Made reservations for 15 people around 6:30 on Friday night and within 45 minutes to an hour it was packed with at least 6 different families waiting for seating.

  4. This is the place to get Thai in East Brunswick. Whether it's ordering takeout or waiting an hour to get seated, my family has eaten here several times.

The black pepper chicken, drunken noodles and basil fried rice are all awesome. But the best dish by far is the coconut shrimp curry. It comes in an actual coconut with whole shrimp hanging over the edge as a garnish. It is very mild and super flavorful, and has pieces of soft cooked coconut in the curry that melts in your mouth. The best part is if you order it to go, they give you the entire coconut wrapped in Saran Wrap! You can still get the restaurant experience at home.

To finish, the dessert my family and I dream about (not kidding) – coconut fried ice cream. It's vanilla ice cream, with a fried crust piled with flakes of coconut, chocolate sauce and a decorative solid chocolate garnish. It comes warm and is absolutely amazing. To go, they give it in a nice plastic container and ask for a specific time of arrival so the ice cream doesn't melt. Talk about great service!

  5. I should have definitely read the more recent reviews before coming here. Came with my husband for a late lunch during the week. Nobody was there and we were immediately greeted and seated.

Not long after we sat down five other tables sat down. We definitely took this as a good sign because it was a pretty random time for lunch (around 2-2:30) and too early for even an early dinner.

Service was very friendly. I ordered the drunken noodles (medium spicy) and my husband ordered the very spicy peppers and chicken. Mine came out ridiculously spicy and my husbands had barely any spice to it. The food wasn't terrible but not the best.

If you're looking for great Thai go 10 min north or south of here. If you're just trying to avoid the mediocre chains that plague EB this is an ok option.

  6. After passing by this place numerous times and seeing how it received a 4 star rating, we were tempted to finally give this place a try.  We ordered the pad thai, pineapple fried rice, bangkok fish, grilled honey quails, and chicken with black pepper.  First off, we enjoyed the pineapple fried rice although it was not the best that we have had.  My favorite was the chicken with black pepper and the bangkok fish.  The fish was slightly too dry inside but the overall flavor was pretty good.   The grilled honey quails had a funny taste to it.  Our biggest disappointment was the pad thai.  We ordered all dishes to be mild in spiciness yet the pad thai and the quails were doused in red pepper flakes. Our mouths were literally on fire during each bite.  I had to scrape off the red pepper flakes from the quail in order to eat it and even then, couldn't eat beyond the 2 drum sticks as I didn't like the flavor.  I have never been to a restaurant where all they put is red pepper flakes to add to the spiciness of the dish…anyone can do that on their own.  I was highly disappointed with this place and I don't think we will be returning again.

  7. I had N Thai Palace bookmarked for quite some time after seeing Yelp reviews. My family and I came here for lunch on Father's Day and were seated right away! My dad ordered a cashew chicken curry (spicy) and enjoyed it. He said it wasn't as spicy as typical Thai restaurants (he loves spicy), but it was delicious. Mom had the chili cauliflower with cashew nuts and manchurian sauce – she loooooved it. We were actually supposed to split both of our dishes, but she decided to keep hers after trying it. BUT that didn't bother me because I ordered my favorite, vegetarian drunken noodles! Medium spicy – wasn't very spicy, but they gave hot sauce on the side (very good!). The dish was veryyy different than any other Thai place I've tried! The sauce was more tomato-y and they sprinkled lots of basil leaves (the condiment) into the dish, which made it very flavorful! It was definitely yummy, but I personally prefer fresh basil leaves over the seasoning. The tofu was cut into teenie-tiny little pieces and was skimpy, but the few pieces I had were delicious. The mixed vegetables in the noodles didn't include baby corn, which is sort-of a deal breaker for me. Instead, they had cauliflower, which I've never had in my drunken noodles before – good addition for sure! We ordered the falooda kulfi for dessert – again, my parents were major fans. I didn't like that it was so frozen that I could taste the ice on the bottom of it. We literally had to take the piece of kulfi out onto another plate to try to de-ice it, but hey, maybe I'm being overly critical because my parents still loved it lol

I'd give N Thai Palace 3.5 stars if I could! My mom would give it a 4.5, Dad would give it a 4 (lost points for the ambiance, not the food!). I'd say I'm a bit picky with my Thai food, but definitely looking forward to coming back again and hopefully uping the star count to coincide with my fellow Yelpers! 🙂

Tip: if you check in on Yelp, there's an offer for a free iced tea! I requested a iced coffee instead and he kindly agreed 🙂

  8. I get take out a lot,  and this was the first time my wife and kids couldn't stomach the meal leaving me to scramble to get something else to eat!

Ordered chicken satay,  salmon stick,  pad thai with beef,  coriander garlic and chicken glass noodle.

Where do I begin? Chicken satay was  4 dried pieces of meat,  and peanut sauce was watery and was scant in peanut flavor. Salmon stick is salmon wrapped in  crispy crepe and dipping sauce was florescent green thai sauce! Not good. Couldn't make out the flavors of that concoction.  Coriander garlic chicken was a coriander flavored brown sauce with dried chicken pieces, she glass noodle was ok except for the fact all i could taste was lime with a hint of chili. Pad thai was some matted mess of noodles with bean sprout and tofu. It tasted horrible!  The beef was  mushy and had a weird taste and consistency.

This place is  no bueno.  Prices weren't horrible but the food was almost inedible! I gave two stars because it's hard for me to give any establishment one star.  The restaurant would have to be the pits for that to happen. The server was nice and decor was good,  but that would not be enough for me to try it again. My rating is in the minority here,  so take it for what it's worth. At least don't order anything i ordered.
