I hardly come here but when i do it doesn't dissapoint. This is a good affordable neighborhood sushi spot and i would say it is even better than ICHI, it doesn't have an omakase menu but their sushi is fresh. they have $1- $3 pieces of sushi/ sashimi and a variety of appetizers to chose from. I have tried the nagoya pizza which i thought wasn't bad and their blue point oysters are BOMB~! If you are in the bensonhurst area i would definitely recommend trying this spot.
Came here after doing bikram and wasn't looking for anything particularly heavy. EUREKA, i'll have sushi! This place was sort of on my way home and I knew they had a lunch special but I couldn't remember what it was. Checked online and the lunch special goes until 3:30PM…. SUCCESS! i had 30 min to get there.
When I got there, turns out it wasn't that good of a lunch special anyways so the next time there's no need to rush. I ordered myself a kani salad, a philadelphia roll and a salmon avocado hand roll. The basic rolls are only $2.75 so a good deal if you just want a light meal.
The restaurant was quiet and the waitress was polite. There is a $10 minimum if you intend to use your credit card.
I've lived in this neighborhood for a long time and eaten at many places around here… Some are quite decent and some are just crappy!!
Had a play date and wanted to get sushi to finish the night, so we search around yelp for recommendation and found good reviews on this replacement Japanese restaurant. It used to be this run down Japanese restaurant and no one ate there. So figure it's new management and cook (?).. TERRIBLE CHOICE!!!!
We ordered a lot of food for just 4 peeps:
Kani salad – awful, not fresh, cucumber were wilted, no masago, tasteless.
Mango Kani salad – see above, with mushed up mango
Gyoza – not Japanese brand, definitely Chinese version, no flavor
Tempura app – worse batter ever! Hard as brick…
Salmon Teriyaki bento – again, tasteless, over cooked…
Eel special (4 sushi/1roll), eel cucumber roll, eel avocado roll, dragon roll, spicy Kani roll, east roll – all mediocre, nothing special, rice falls apart, and the spicy Kani was again over fried…
Total bill $80.30… If I had wanted to waste my money on mediocre sushi, would have just order from any other place…since they are all owned by Chinese people…
Look, I know it's not Morimoto and we know it's Bklyn… but c'mon, how do you mess up Kani salad?!?! I make that at home..!
Epic freaking FAIL!
Probably the worst take out I've ever gotten.
I ordered garlic scallops and a salmon sashimi salad. The garlic scallops was a rip off 5 pieces for $10 bucks? Seriously? Not only that, the sauce was incredibly salty. The salmon sashimi salad was worse. It was NOT edible. The salmon did not taste like sashimi quality, incredibly briny and fishy. I spit it out after one bite. The dressing was too heavy.
Avoid this place at all costs.
It was empty on a weeknight but my friend said it was a decent place, so I figure I give it a try. Out of all the places on 86th st, the quality was not good.
The salmon salad was ok, they gave plenty of salmon and it looked like that was the only fresh fish that night.
We also had the sashimi and sushi for two. I also decided to try a piece of toro. More than half the sashimi was somewhat frozen, the rolls were not organized and fell apart. The only fresh fish was salmon.
I didn't enjoy my experience.
I used to frequent this restaurant alot in the summer cause the food was decent and my girlfriend wrote a nice review for them. As I continued to order food from here, I've started getting stomach aches. So I laid off the sushi for a bit. Picked up dinner on my way home today, and ultimately regret it. There was a curly hair on my $10 special roll, gag! And I have a bone caught in my throat from the eel roll. My husband is also not feeling very feeling kosher after consuming his tuna roll. I don't think I'll be returning to this establishment.
Feeling lazy, I placed an order online so I wouldn't have to get out of the house. The sushi was standard, although the spicy salmon and salmon skin roll really stood apart from the rest. The chicken tempura roll was good as well. Everything else I ordered (Alaskan, eel avocado, salmon sashimi, Boston ) tasted just okay. I would not go out of my way to make a trip here for the food. However, I would order from here again if I were feeling lazy and craved sushi.
I came here for a pickup. I ordered California rolls and Gyoza. The food was delicious and the decor is really nice– you forget your on 86th street when you step in. The staff is nice, they gave me water while I waited which was nice because it was really hot. They have online ordering which is awesome I forget which though seamless or grubhub. But they def became my favorite spot since moving to this area.
