Came for a family dinner to celebrate a communion maybe a year ago. Don't remeber to much about the place but the service was really good for our party of about 16. That I am sure off! I tried some of their pasta dishes and some chicken dish but nothing inspired me enough to right a review. I would try this place again on a date night but maybe at the bar.
I can usually spot the marks of uniformity on industrially produced gnocchi whenever I'll place an order at various restaurants. Like soldier dumplings, each with a chevron, they align on my plate for processing.
Not so at Nancy's, where individuality liberates the gnocchi from mass conformity and quality reigns supreme.
With ample parking in the nearby residential area, from the outside Nancy's presents an imposing structure in a quieter part of Jericho Turnpike. Upon entering, you'll find a bar which on Fridays from 7:30-9:30pm hosts a guitarist covering everything from the Beatles to Nancy Sinatra. High ceilings are part of an overall airy, spacious feel, especially in the dining room adjacent to the bar.
Service was exceptionally friendly, with genuine smiles and conversation about the dessert menu beyond the basic indifference you see elsewhere. Even the removal of plates was done by someone smiling! After the harshness of commuting on the NYC subway, amidst the pallid beggars and buskers, being on the receiving end of an actual smile was the perfect way to ease into the weekend.
So the gnocchi was outstanding, served with either pork or beef. I opted for beef and was presented with tender chunks that melted in my mouth. The gnocchi had character, a far cry from the frozen clones that is served elsewhere. The menu features plenty of American bistro style fare, ranging from fish and chips to hanger steaks. One dish even came with spaetzle, which considering my original plan of going to the now closed Koenig's, was a welcome sight.
Dessert presented a dilemma as every item tempted me like the siren's song. We decided to share the puff pastry which by in and of itself is rather airy, light and ethereal. Accompanied by custard, whipped cream, ice cream and strawberries (For good health), there is a reason why I hope to run 5K this morning.
It was one of those desserts that results in a spoon gliding about every last inch of the surface plate, to mop any residual bits left behind. It was that good.
And while the meal was delicious, the price simply sealed the deal that I will be returning to Nancy's soon. $60 for an appetizer, two entrees, a dessert and two seltzers. (We split an arugala goat cheese salad as an appetizer and even that didn't disappoint.)
I'm not yet familiar with the other restaurants of this particular neighborhood, but we're off to a great start with Nancy's.
I've eaten here on several occasions, as well as attended a private party for a friend's birthday. I can't say enough good things about this place. The food is excellent and they have a decent selection of beers both on tap and bottled. The ingredients always taste fresh and the service is superb. I recommend trying the hanger steak which is delicious. It's my go-to dish here. 🙂
Ive been here for 2 events and once just to eat. Ive have great experiences all the times ive been here. However, its extremely small for catering events. I wouldnt recommend it for a big group of people. However, for a small get together its perfect! The food is amazing!
Solid Neighborhood place.
Nancy's has been around for many years now and the food is the main reason why. Solid American menu with many of your pub type favorites, huge portions and decent prices ensure that you will waddle out of there fat and happy.
Bartenders are decent and the good sized bar is frequented by locals having fun.
The decor is upscale pub – nice enough to take the family or a date for dinner.
The real downside is that there is virtually no parking where this place is located. It is next to a car wash and between a one way street and a busy intersection that makes turning around a chore. There is parking across the street heading east- but again, if you are coming from the east, you are going to have to do some fancy maneuvering to turn around and park.
Aside from that, the place is definitely worth visiting.
