Nanking
“Nanking is a great halal asian option in the middle of Times Square.”
“The American chopsuey was especially good with its amazing sauce while the triple schezwan was just so-so.”
“Although the Hot and Sour soup wasn't as good, try the Manchow soup as well as the appetizer "Cauliflower Manchurian" and the chili garlic fried rice.”

I see a lot of negative reviews but I don't honestly think it was pretty good here, at least my experience was. Popped in for a quick lunch and really was not expecting too much from a place in Times Square but it was a quiet Sunday afternoon and i was able to be seated quickly.
I had the garlic shrimp as an appetizer. For $10 you get 5 large shrimps on skeweers sauteed in a garlic sauce. They were good, they could have used a tad more sauce though. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai as my entree and was not disappointed. I requested they make mine extra hot and they DELIVERED. Seriously, they prepared it with deliciously thai hot in that flavorful way. Only #13 for the Pad Thai entree too. I think the food here was pretty decent and for being in Times Square that was extremely reasonable for the price. If you're looking for a gnosh in the theater district, don't be so quick to overlook this one.
Had a quick dinner here. Hubby had fried rice and I had pineapple fried rice. Great portion sizes and tasty. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but for a restaurant in a touristy part of town, it was a good find.
The Thai iced tea was a bit too sweet for me, but wasn't too bad. Service was ok.
We got a nice corner table in front of the window, which definitely made the meal more enjoyable. Who doesn't love people watching in NYC, right?
Extremely average food with high prices making the whole thing pretty bad deal. I wish they could do better with such a prime location. May be its just there for tourists who are not going to return anyway. I would not recommend wasting your money at this place especially if you live in the city
I stopped here for dinner with my boyfriend while we were in time square, since we wanted to keep walking after dinner! I was so glad i checked in on yelp and found that they offered $60 for $40 deal at the restaurant. So of course since it was my turn to pay i had to get it 😉 the food prices are very reasonable considering its right in time square $16 for my basil ginger chicken. So two chicken meals and 4 drinks (for the two of us) and the bill didn't completely break my wallet, specially that i got a $20 off. The drinks are also pretty strong which i loved, so they're definitely worth it!!!! The food was good just nothing special, really average. I just loved the location and the alcohol the most.
I've been to Nanking about 4 times. You will get good Asian Fusion Chinese/Thai food, no doubt about that. But it will be expensive, especially since this branch is in the city. The other branches out in Long Island are not as expensive.
If you want a cheaper meal, I suggest going during their lunch special. Dinner gets pricey.
I suggest getting the Drums of Heaven as the appetizer, any of the chicken entrees, and their signature Nanking Fried Rice.
I am fairly sure that this place serves halal meat but make sure you ask because I've gotten both no's and yes's from them on this issue.
The food was really good. Chicken dumplings and Chicken Spring rolls. The sauces provided were spot on in terms of flavor and complimented the dishes well. My friends shrimp noodle dish was great also, but I can't recall the technical name of it.
Can I Get Some Service Please? You're what type of cuisine?
*Note* My review is based on take-out only.
Food: 3.25 Stars
My first observation of the majority of dishes at Nanking is a large amount of dishes are smothered in sauce. I am not a big fan of foods drenched in sauces, but the ginger sauce in my dish complimented the food well.
The Ginger chicken was a remarkably plain/straightforward dish. Stir-fry chicken w/ ginger sauce on one side and a large quantity of rice on the other. I normally would say this is fine, but for $11 (not including tax), it's a bit high. The portions were solid.
The chicken was well cooked and mixing the sauce with the rice brought the dish together.
Good food, but nothing to write home about.
Service: 2 Stars
The service seemed friendly and helpful when I arrived, but it isn't all that I seems. I looked over the menu quickly and placed my order. The gentleman at the cash register looked swamped, but there were only a handful of tables occupied and it was past the lunch rush, so I don't know how that could be.
I sat down at the bar and waited for my take-out. A little less than 10 minutes go by and a staff member drops off a take-out/delivery order behind me at the bar and walks away. About 5-7 minutes later as I am about to ask about my order a different staff member asks me if I am being helped. I mention I am waiting for my order. He looks at the bag behind me, lo and behold, it is my take-out. No one mentioned to me that it was my food. They just put it on the bar and walked away. I never saw the gentleman who took my order or any other real staff members walking around for the majority of the time I was in the restaurant.
I understand that it was only take-out and it's nitpicking on my part, but speaking to someone who has been waiting 10 minutes for their take-out is important. Sating "It will be out shortly", or confirming what they are there for is just as important as asking "How is your meal," for the customers dining in.
Overall: 2.75 Stars
Decent portions, but for $11 I expect more from my other than a large portion of rice and stir-fried chicken swimming in sauce.
The overall flavor of the food far exceeded my low expectations, but not really worth the price.
The service needs massive improvement.
I am still uncertain of what type of cuisine it is, but I'm guessing its Indian Asian Fusion?
Nanking might be worth visiting if you are interested in this particular type of fusion cuisine.
I am unhappy giving this place 3 Stars, but at the same time it doesn't deserve 2 stars from my experience.
I walked in for a casual lunch. Had lollipop chicken, steamed veg dumplings, chilli paneer and fried rice. The lollipop chicken is delish!!!!!! Chilli paneer was pretty good as well. Cordial staff. Overall very good experience. Will stop by again.
