  1. One of the many reasons that I miss Detroit: kick-ass Mediterranean food on every corner. When I moved to NYC, I tried 2 or 3 places, and they were so awful I gave up.

I can't believe it took me 8 months to find this place! We ordered hummus (pricey at $10, but tasty), chicken schwarma pita, Israeli salad, and the morrocan beef kofta. We were pleased with our selections and had lunch for two. We also ordered baklava, to go, which was amazing, and clearly homemade. There were only two other tables at 2:30 on a Wednesday afternoon, and everything was clearly made to order.

The lunch specials are about half the price of the regular entrees, which is good to note. They also had a decent wine selection.

    We will definitely be back!

  2. I never would have gone here if not for my cousin, who lives in the hood and was picking up the tab.  The restaurant itself doesn't have much atmosphere, but I have never had better baba ghanoush in my life.  The meze here are all really great. She loves the Shabbat-to-Go dinners, which seem expensive, but a meal for four feeds her family of five two or three times over.  Even when a cousin shows up and eats most of the baba ghanoush. You have to pick it up a little early because of course they close before sundown on Fridays, but if I were having a dinner party on the UES and I didn't want to cook, I would definitely consider it.

  3. How could I have not reviewed this place yet!??

This is by far one of the best Israeli restaurants in the city!! A girlfriend of mine who grew up in Israel kept running into people she had not seen in years from back home when we were here.  Time and time again the beef shish-kabob, Israeli salad, **Hummus, and falafel don't fail.  THEY ARE OUTSTANDING.

The service here is less than sub-par but the food makes up for it if you're aware that the people working here (1.)  will have an attitude  (2.) are slow to wait on you,and   (3.)  are difficult to place an order with over the phone.

The lunch portions are not much smaller than the dinner portions and the food at lunch is nearly half the price. So if you're interested in trying out this spot but don't want to spend the $$$$ then try coming here for lunch.

Love the traditional nectar and juices that are available here and even the wine isn't bad.

Date Rating: 7  (the lighting is a little on the bright side)
Pick up Scale: 1  (unless you speak Hebrew and run into an old fling from back home)

Strong Suggestions: Remember this place is very simple.  If you order delivery don't have them put the hummus inside the pita it will get soggy.  It's best to eat in person or specify that they leave it separate.

NOTE: They are closed on Jewish holidays.
