Boy, I'm sad that I didn't discover this place sooner in the neighbourhood.
It's a barebones place, more appropriate for take out probably. I did get the soy chicken patty, and 2 rice dishes. I don't remember what the 2 rice dishes were, but I did enjoy both of them (one more so than the other). I want to go back and try the rest of their rice dishes. After all the raves for the patties at Natural Blend, I honestly was kind of disappointed when I tasted the soy chicken patty – but maybe it's just not my taste – plus non-veg jamaican patties are also pretty darn hard to beat in flavour.
I will be back.
This place is great, all our food was perfect in everyday. First, we both got their signature stew which was hearty, filling, and delicious. A small works for one person. We also tried a veggie empanada type dish which was tasty. To finish it off we got s large organic juice.
Friendly staff, prices good and fair.
Check it out!!!!
Such a cool place. I went with my Jamaican friend and we picked out some yummy stuff. Virtually everything here is vegan, which is super cool. I had the "chicken" curry and we also got a black cake which was super good. A great cheap place to go close to the Brooklyn Museum. Get there early for porridge.
Everything's vegan, and both your taste buds and arteries will be glad you are here. Definitely get the pepper steak, and don't worry about overloading on fake meat because it comes with veggies and brown rice. The smoothies here are also great, and you can see them shove whole apples into their power juicers.
The food here is off the charts good – from the breakfast (ackee and salt fish), to the porridge, to the patties, to the smoothies, to the baked goods. It's all delish!
Not sure if I should mention this (because they are my favorite and I don't want them to be out when I go to get them) but in the interest of educating my yelp family, my absolute favorite is the callalloo patty.
It is filling and tasty and not too bad calorie wise (approximately 350 calories) as a full meal. The price is also really right at only $2.50 per pop! Since the veggie patties are quite popular, you could always call ahead before to see if what you want is available, but even if it isn't the other patties are just as good.
Convenient spot that is perfect for a snack on your way to or from brooklyn botanical gardens, brooklyn museum (saturday night soiree's) or Brooklyn public library.
I am DROOLING while writing this review and reminiscing of their food. The texture of their vegetarian meats can take a few bites to get comfortable with but the FLAVORS and SPICES are incredible!
We tried their Pepper Steak and Curry Chicken, both vegetarian and over rice. We also shared a pea patty/empanada. The pea patty was a little too mushy and reminded me of comfort soup (and the Curry Chicken dish as well). But I would still get it again!
Prices are cheap. It's $7 for a small box that can really fill you up. The empanadas are $2.50 each. It's a little bit bigger than a hole-in-the-wall with some seating. I would come here everyday if I lived nearby!
I come here for the ackee with saltfish and I am never disappointed. I love the greens they add to the meal which makes it feel balanced. I have tried the corn porridge and did not like it so I would stay away from that. The cassava cake was good though…. Definitely a place to check out if you like vegetarian food.
I'm not a vegan, so for vegan food I thought this place was quite tasty! And the guys behind the counter are really nice and friendly. I picked up lunch to go (it's a small spot) for myself and a friend. I tried the Ital stew (which is kind of like a curry, PACKED with veggies and beans, including okra, which I love), the curry chicken (which he said was his number one seller), the pepper steak, and a chicken pattie (spicy!) and fish pattie. Everything was good – great option for all the vegans and vegetarians out there!
