I first have to write a disclaimer before i write this review, this review may be a tad bit biased, and the only reason why it is biased is because this establishment fits the mold of places that i purposely seek out and adore.
what is it that i seek out you ask? well this place is a reasonably priced hole in the wall establishment that serves authentic food from the motherland that tastes like someones mother, grandmother or aunt cooked it up and served to their esteemed guest. This places DOES NOT cater to your typical gringo , farang or gwai lo and puts absolutely no effort into seeking out their business either, in fact the sign outside their establishment does not say nayang filipino but instead simple states "asian food" or something of that variety and the customers are all filipino, so expects to receive stares ( like i did) if and when you do decide to mosey on into this establishment.
anyway onto the food!
fillipino food is not for the faint of heart (literally the fat in it will kill you lol)
I ordered the Lechon Kawali ( pay per pound ) and how this establishment works is you get a think of rice and two sides for either 6.25 or 6.50. i ended up getting the lechon paksiw, biscol express, dinuguan aka pigs blood yum! and some sweet and sour beef thing. the lechon kawali was awesome, although not fresh it did have an interesting mix of spices that gave it more kick than your typical pork dishes. my favorites were the lechon paksiw and the biscol express, the sweetness in the paksiw mixed really well with pork belly fat, and the sauce was extremely thick and savory as well. The biscol express was interesting as it was the first time I've ever eaten anything like it. It was purple in color, made with pork, fermented shrimp paste, coconut milk and lemon grass, definitely a good combination, but not for an unadventurous eater. the dinuguan was too sour for my liking and the sweet and sour beef was good, but tasted pretty typical. great experience, and I will most likely will be coming back here since it is close by and inexpensive. The Flan here was AMAZING, they order it from another place, but its still good nevertheless. anyway could have done without the food out buffet style (one star less for that) still pretty good though
