$5.50 for eggs, toast, the best hash browns ever (paprika) and coffee. Neptune delivers.
My friend added kielbasa – so $7.50
This place is old New York. Gracious Polish waitresses slinging slinging Polish comfort food for a song. I love it. Have had most of the many and can't complain. You like Pierogi? Yes? You want with sour cream?
It's OK. Delivery was fast, so how much can you really hate on pierogi's at your door in 15 min. That being said, they weren't great. Plenty of different fillings (best are the spinach and kraut with mushroom ones), but not too much better than Mrs. T's. Also not anything special was the chef's salad. Best part of the meal, by far, the matzoh ball soup and the keilbasa 🙂 Would rock these again, for sure. Bottom line, if you need food fast and on the cheap, they serve it. If you need GOOD food, skip it.
A group of 6 of us stopped by for a few hot drinks, everybody ordered hot tea, the waitress still managed to forget my hot chocolate. It was not bad, the place is very cozy, very Italian, we ordered a plate of fries and fried fish filet, it was not bad but nothing special. The hot chocolate was made from an instant powder pack and the tea's were teabags. Well, a few customers stopped by for drinks in the late afternoon, but I didn't see anyone ordering food.
The Neptune has superlative Polish food, the employees are friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Tripe soup was great and the beef goulash I that I ordered was excellent. My dining partners combination plate of a blintzes, potato pancake, and pirogies were delicious. This was a great unexpected find in the east village and we will be back.
Came with a date; it was not what I expected. They have a nice outdoor patio area that a friend of mine was celebrating a birthday at but we opted to hang out by ourselves as my date didn't know those people and it was only our second date. I got a grilled chicken sandwich and fries, which were really good. It was semi cool and not too crowded on a Saturday evening. Good spot to take a date.
I love this place! This Polish authentic diner is perfect for a cold winter's day.
It's cozy, comfortable, and the waitresses are old-style friendly. Like the ones that used to say 'Honey, what can I get you?" The prices are also very reasonable.
Today I had the white borsht, which was so delicious and hearty with slices of sausage, hard boiled egg and a side of dill mashed potatoes that you put in the soup. I also had a scrumptious stuffed cabbage dish.
You know, I love Neptune, but they are KILLING me by letting people smoke in their back garden. The place is dominated by smokers at times. It's really, really gross.
I wanted some great Polish food but this was very nieprzyjemny.
I went with some Eastern European classics – kasha varnishkas, matzoh ball soup, and the pierogis. Here is my story.
They brought out the matzoh ball soup after about 10 minutes. The soup was pretty bland and the matzoh ball was exceptionally bland. About two minutes later they brought over the kasha. That was solid. Then I waited. And waited.
It got to around 2 PM, so the lunch crowd was mostly gone. The two waitresses were talking behind the bar. I had been there for about 40 minutes, and it had been ~25 minutes since they had been over. But no pierogies.
I went up and asked them about the rest of my food. They said "they are just being finished" but then immediately brought them over. I saw that they had just been sitting under a small heat lamp while the two waitresses talked. Classy.
They were actually delicious – I wish I had gotten a full order instead of the soup. They were a great consistency and had lots of flavor. Given the nature of of my experience, that's all I would go back for.
