  1. Easily one of the top beer shops in all of NYC. Huge variety of beer in every price range, style, origin you can think of. Warehouse style place. You can mix and match 6 packs, buy as many or few bottles as you want of each beer. Bottles are priced individually so you can pick and choose. They also have a small selection of taps. Its a bit out of the way, so make a day trip out of it and hit some good restaurants and shops in the area. Staff were very helpful. Large selection of local and regional beers from all around the US. Lots of stuff I had never heard of, and lots I was very familiar with. Great selection of IPAs, Farmhouses, Saisons, Hefs, lagers, ales, etc. Small selection of sours as well. You pay at the window, which isnt quite traditional but it works. Came here and spent about $40 on a large selection of beer. Even got some advice from two guys who were shoppers and looking at some similar beers. Nice folks. I will definitely be coming here again next time im in the area or have a hankering for some unusual beers.

  2. Hi, do you like beer? Do you like all types of foreign beer? Do you like getting a 6-pack full of different beers to expand your taste? This place is for you.

They have (almost) EVERYTHING. They have domestic and international beers organized by country. Make a 6 pack of whatever you want and try everything! It's really amazing and it's so fun. I could spend forever there.

One tip: there is no AC so… be prepared to sweat in the summer lol.

  3. New Beer isn't the most welcoming-looking beer store in the city.  It's a distributor, so it essentially looks like a warehouse with shelves for bottles set up.  However this rough exterior hides that it's one of the friendliest places to buy beer in the city.  I've gotten them to hold onto bottles for me several times over the years and they're always been happy to do so.  The women who run this place are all very nice, especially if you chat them up.

There are some small deals to be had but otherwise they are on par for pricing.  I wish they knew more about special releases, as they're usually out of the loop compared to other beer stores.  The plus side of that is that  sometimes they get releases later, after they're sold out elsewhere.  Either way this is a good place to grab beer by the bottle and in bulk, with the increasing pretense that craft beer stores seem to be acquiring faster than shelf turds.

  4. They close pretty earlier for a beer store, 6pm. This is an warehouse space with stacks of beers, mostly single bottles, with an amazing selection. Almost everytime I come here I find something of interest. Selection is mostly divided into countries: England, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Italy, Eastern Europe. Prices are a little higher than I'd like, but finding odd rarities makes up for it I think. Very different selection vs. a beer store like Bowery Whole Foods. Interior can get a bit hot, and since nearly everything is not refrigerated, I would hesitate to buy anything but strong ales that can handle the temperature abuse.

  5. New Beer Distributors is located just a block above Delancey Street on the west side of Chrystie Street. It's easy to get there by just taking the B or D to the Grand Street station or the J or Z to the Bowery Station. As the other reviewers noted, this is indeed a warehouse with wire shelves filled with all types of craft beers and some regular mass market beers. The front is reserved for the individual bottles and way back is storage for 12/24 pack cases of mass market beers.

You'll find an amazing selection of beers to the left and center rows which are sorted by country. To the right are all the American craft beers. There's a section with larger 22 ounce bottles. Most of the six packs are clearly labeled for sale by the six pack and sale by individual bottles. There are small white stickers stuck on the bottles and/or box that will tell you the price. I found that most of the American craft beers they carry go for $2.25 to $4, which is unbeatable in Manhattan or any of the outer boroughs for that matter. The 22 ounce beers go for anywhere between $6 to $20. Generally, the European and Japanese beers sell for $5 to $10 for individual bottles and much more for the larger bottles.

The one worker who was there helped me get two six pack holders and a box with box dividers for my purchase. He was helpful and not in the way as I examined their shelves.

When you compare what you are paying here versus going to a bar, there is no comparison. Most bars I've been with craft beers range from $7 to $12 for a good craft beer. Here's you'll pay 60 to 80 percent less.

All in all, if you are looking to try beers from around the world, there is no better place than to stock up here, mainly because you'll never have to regret buying a six pack again. One and done possible here as is building your own six pack. Therefore, NBD gets a huge thumbs up by the Cheap Guy!

  6. The New Beer Distributors is a hidden gem. And by hidden, I mean hidden.
I had a hard time finding the place because it has a confusing sign in the front, too much text and it makes it generic and easy to miss.

Once you get passed that, you find a huge variety of beer from all over the world, sorted out by Country.

The staff is friendly and helpful. I also love the fact that they have a few beers on tap.

The prices are kind of average, but what makes this place amazing is the variety.
You can find whatever you are looking for.

It is definitely worth checking out.

  7. While visiting from Charleston, SC (where one of the top beer stores in the world is; look up Charleston Beer Exchange), I have very high standards.  I can honestly say this is a top notch place.  They have so many different beers, a lot of what we can't get down in Charleston.  They have a TON of local/regional brews, as well as hard to find stuff.  I found quite a few Bayou Teche beers, which are hard to get outside of Louisiana.  My mom lives in NOLA, so I try to get some every time I visit.  My only gripes about it, were the prices were pretty high (but it's the big city, so you have to expect that), and it doesn't seem to have any climate control, so I'd be cautious of IPAs in the summer there.  I went when it was in the 30's, so no harm done.  Bottom line, if you're a beer geek, get there NOW!

  8. This place has a crazy amount of beer options, one of the largest I've ever come across. Sadly most of the options are the larger bottles that go for $7-18 per bottle but they do still have a respectable selection of mix-and-match 6 packs as well. Prices are about average, you won't get any amazing deals here but you won't be ripped off either. Almost everything is at room temperature but they do have a small cooler with some cold options as well. Of course being a beer distributer they also have cases and kegs available. I was happy to have a friendly guy ask me if I needed help finding anything. I also liked that all the beer prices were clearly marked and that everything was organized by country. The only negative is that you have to pay through bulletproof glass. This certainly doesn't detract much from the whole dirty warehouse vibe of the place though.
