After braving the hellish Hoboken traffic, a buddy of mine suggested checking this place out prior to a scheduled visit to Philadelphia.  No frills to this place, and the section town where this place was in reminded me of the spot where (spoilers) the baddies throw Martin Sheen's character off the roof in "The Departed"… (end spoilers).  An isolated and almost derelict part of town… it almost had my friend and I second guessing our security and well-being.  After some deliberation as well as coming to the realization that we were two male specimens in our physical prime, we ventured into a long and lonely stretch of street to find the entrance to this spot.

Upon chancing a number of truck loading-dock workers, we inquired (en Espanol) where the Beer Company was.  They pointed past the truck/cargo unloading station and pretty and we continued in that direction.  Urban industrial warehouse corridors greeted us… thoughts of myself being an unsuspecting victim/participant of a snuff film never ventured far from my thoughts at this time…

Finally though, after stepping through door number 2, we arrived at the kinda-hard-to-find intended destination.  We were greeted to warm lighting, cheap locally made brews, and a very welcome pop up restaurant BBQ situated outside.  Despite the makeshift nature of the actual bar area (it really is just a counter, some big wine/scotch/bourbon barrels serving as tables, all in a boiler room of a warehouse), there is an undeniable charm to this place.  And that's not to mention that some of the more potent locally made libations pack a punch (and are tasty to boot).

If you have a means of transport (and the patience/tolerance to brave NJ traffic), drive on down, have a few beers, then Uber it home???  Or have some responsible designated driver make the sacrifice… I don't know… that's your problem, but it's definitely worth checking the place out.

Every time I bring NJ Beer Co to a party its the first beer to be done. Then I get sad I have no more beer 🙁

If you have an open Fri night or Sat afternoon definitely stop by. Sample, drink, tour, drink some more then fill your growler before heading out. Staff is so friendly and laid back.

NJ Beer Co 1787 Abbey Single is my beer of choice.

Once upon a time I didn't drink beer. In fact I hated the stuff, but I eventually discovered that not all beer is created equal. Right around the time I discovered craft beer, I also stumbled upon NJ Beer Co's Garden State Stout. My friends scoffed at my choice in beer as they were and many of them still are not fans of the darker beers. No matter, more for me!

Fast forward almost four years later. I am in a liquor store in South Jersey and I find GSS! I have always credited this beer as being my 'gateway' stout which introduced me to a whole new spectrum of beer that I ended up falling in love with. I bought a six pack and shared with a friend and relived my stout drinking virginity all over again.

Fast forward several months later. I am now residing further north in the garden state and am only about 35 mins away from North Bergen. So one particular Saturday, I decided to take the ride to check out the brewery that I've been wanting to visit for so long now.

First off, it's not much to look at from the outside as it pretty much looks like a rundown warehouse, but stepping inside is reminiscent of stepping into a friend's house. You will be warmly greeted with free samples of whatever they have on tap. On this particular day, it was GSS, Hudson Pale, Abbey Single, LBIPA, and one other that I can't recall. I also took a tour with a couple of other fellow craft brew fans that proved to be very entertaining.

I ended up chatting at the bar with some locals as well as the bartenders and had a few more beers before hitting the road. I loved the beer, the laid back atmosphere, and that fact that they aren't trying to be something they're not.

So whether you're in the area or a fan of craft beer, be sure stop in for a pint. After all good beer and good people is what makes the world go round.

Beer was fresh.  People were friendly. Cool little place tucked away off the main rd.  if you visit breweries you know these places can be tricky to find especially when using gps.  They bottle the beer if u want a 6 pack to go or a growler fill.

    This place is seriously awesome!

    1) Lots of street parking right in front.
    2) The whole place just exudes "cool" from the second you step foot in it. Right away you breathe in the delicious aroma of beer, and are immediately entertained by their funny signs, stickers, and wall art (including that of Sean 9 Lugo).
    3) They have a beer for every preference and palate that you can sample, enjoy a pint, or even take home in bottles or growlers. They also have an array of shirts and hoodies, glassware, books, etc. for purchase.
    4) All the guys are super knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. No matter how busy it was, they made sure every patron was attended to whether it was answering questions or topping up drinks.

This is definitely a great place to go with friends or alone, grab a pint, and just relax. I'll certainly be back again soon!

Love this place! A super unassuming place serving fresh, cheap beer made on site. If you're coming here expecting a fancy experience, try somewhere else. NJ Beer is a no frills establishment, little more than a few mismatched tables, some taps, and a simple bar set up in the middle of their production facility. But if you're like me and appreciate a good brew no matter where it comes from, you'll have a great time.

It may take you a few passes to find the door to this place, but there's copious free street parking right outside the door. You're entering right into the brewing facility, so it's very industrial and smells like hops. Obviously a perfect setting for a cold one. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable, you can tell they love what they're doing and are happy to get into serious beer brewing talk if you let them. The LBIPA is an excellent IPA and at $6 for a growler fill you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal. I also enjoy their abbey single ale, it's really light and great as a session beer.

The only downside, and the staff will freely admit this too, is the lack of food. The facility is not licensed to sell food in any way, only beer. You can totally bring your own though, which I plan on doing next time I'm in the area.

TLDR version: $6 GROWLER FILLS and the friendliest staff this side of the Hudson. Check them out!

Great local beer place, friendly staff and patrons, perfect amount of beer choices. Casey was very welcoming and redeemed our high 5 Yelp deal. Definitely a place to check out we will be back.

First of all their beer is not the greatest in the world, but let me tell you their stout might be one of the best I have had. I love the atmosphere of this spot, very industrial, feels like you are drinking in your friends garage. Nothing fancy here, just solid beer and a fun crowd. I love that all of their tables are made out of barrels, for a real rustic feel. An they have a great quote on the wall, "24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?" – Stephen Wright. If you are looking for a cool place to hang out, this is the place. Unfortunately they don't have food though. I will be back
