When you grow up in New York City and spend almost every weekend in Manhattan's Chinatown, it almost feels like blasphemy to eat at take-out places, but I do enjoy them from time to time. My area of Elizabeth is practically swarming with Chinese take-out style places, but in all my years of living here I never went to New Kam Po Garden despite having passed it a few times over the years.
I was in this section of town one night and decided to grab some food for dinner. The first disappointment was noting that there were no eggplant dishes on the menu. Spicy eggplant dishes from take-out joints are one of the best reasons to go to them. Sadly this one doesn't carry it at all.
I ordered a couple dishes including standard dishes like broccoli with garlic sauce and vegetables with chicken sautee. Nothing was bad per se. Indeed, the broccoli was perfectly cooked. However, nothing was extraordinary either. The food was just middle of the road good, and I've definitely had much better at nearby take-out joints.
