  1. I hate writing negative one star reviews but I also hate waisting money on food that's not good.

Ordered the chicken fajita plate. The chicken was like rubber and way salty. Not only was it nasty but there was also a very small portion of chicken. Just a ton for beans and rice that were also subpar.

How do you mess up something simple like chicken fajita and server it.

    Never again.

Side Note 1 – my intention of this review is not to damage the business by any means. I'm sure the people that work here are hard workers and have family's to support. My intention is to hopefully have them improve the quality of the food, so that future customers are happy with what they paid for and keep coming back over and over again. A win win for all.

Side Note 2 – looked at many of their 5 start reviews and many of them are from users with only a few other reviews, no profile picture, and small amount of Yelp friend. All signs of fake reviews.

  2. I live 10 minutes away which makes this the perfect late night dinner spot. I'm pretty obsessed with Mexican food. Originally from LA, I feel confident that I know good Mexican food. HOWEVER, I can't say I'm an expert at all on Tex Mex. As a result, New Mexico Place has some dishes that fit my style, and others that don't make the mark.

Regardless of your preference, their enchiladas are killer. Seriously, I don't even like enchiladas but I decided to order the Enchiladas Suizas because Yelp told me to and it was the best choice. Huge portions, super gooey cheesy, excellent flavor and spice, and super comforting. I had enough to take home for leftovers! Their guacamole and home made chips are also amazing. A little pricy compared to everything else on the menu but we were starved and guacamole always hits the spot.

Tacos are a different story. I love love love tacos. I'll eat tacos for breakfast, and I often do. New Mexico Place does tacos with a Tex Mex twist because they top it with lots of lettuce, a bit of crema, and sprinkles of diced tomato. Typically, I like my tacos with pure Mexican toppings – raw onion, cilantro, and maybe a little salsa/pico de gallo. We eventually ended up brushing off most of the lettuce and putting on their salsas which were amazing so it wasn't too bad. Just make sure you figure out what you like! My boyfriend got a plethora of tacos and I think our favorites were fish, barbacoa, and chorizo. They ran out of shrimp so will have to try that next time.

Definitely give this place a try and go with friends so you can order several things before you make your initial judgement!

  3. Sadly this place has declined since I first reviewed it in 2012. They seem to be short-staffed and slammed with delivery orders. As a result the food takes forever to arrive, whether you're ordering to-go or eating there. The chicken taco I once adored now tastes dry. The chips & guacamole are still great, but that's about it.

  4. pros: open suuuuper late

cons: I ordered 3 different tacos and they were indistinguishable.

  5. Okay 4 stars because I am fearful of people come eat here! A gem in Williamsburg, and a place that I love coming to for some solid, affordable Mexican food. The decor is nothing to scream about, but the enchiladas and the chimichanga… sweet Mary, Joseph and all the apostles that's some good food. Great beer prices as well and the wait staff has always been nothing but sweet and attentive.

I usually come with my sister and her family as they live close by for dinner, so I don't know if they do a lunch, but worth checking out.

  6. Our standard Mexican delivery choice, although being three blocks from our home we're increasingly doing takeout.

In a neighborhood full of Mexican options, Nuevo Mexico stands out for authenticity and fresh flavors. You won't find any frozen peas or chopped carrots in the burritos or grated cheddar cheese on the tacos. The quesadillas are massive and quite nice. The pork and chicken taste rather fresh – not like they've been stewing in a pot all day.

Delievery, ordering is quick, painless and error free. There's still more more menu exploring ahead of me: chilaquiles, tortas, soups, cemitas, but my half-dozen trips have convinced me that this is the best spot in the neighborhood.

Pro tip: If you can, eat in. Chips and salsa are free at the restaurant, but a steep $4.50 when ordered. Be forewarned, the jukebox volume is set somewhere near jumbo jet level, so be prepared to bail if someone comes in with a roll of quarters.

  7. I'm putting it right out there at the onset, the shrimp nachos at New Mexico Place could be the best I've ever had. Seriously! Nachos are something that in my opinion Tex and Cal Mex just gets better. Giant plates of tortilla chips that are messy with meat and cheese and beans and vegetables and everything else. Well these nachos follow that recipe. And the shrimp are cooked perfectly. And the chips have a really strong corn flavor… I could go on and on.

As far as the other items go, they were all good. Barbacoa taco had lots of flavor and plenty of crunchy griddled ends. Minus points for having lengua on the menu, but being out of it. They had huitlacoche quesadillas, which were good and really big. The gordita came out a lot later than the rest of the food, but was hot and crispy. Fish tacos were pretty good. The tinga tostada was crunchy on the bottom, saucy on top.

The service was a little slow, as there was only one girl working all the tables and the phone. But the food is really good. I wish this were my local taco joint.

  8. Vile people and vile food. Hands down the worst experience I have had ordering in NYC in years. I ordered a chimichanga and it came COLD. Not only that, but the guy must have dropped it (See picture).

I called to complain and they have the nerve to tell me it couldn't be cold and when I asked for a refund they gave me lip service and told me they would never deliver to me again. Good riddance! If they keep treating people like this they won't exist much longer, there are too many places (literally anywhere else) that I can get better food and service.
