  1. Talk about a hidden gem served with a side of sodium.

Green Bo is a tiny restaurant nestled in Chinatown with a capacity to seat less than 40. This was the best money I ever spent by far on hot and sour soup, soup dumplings, pork fried dumplings, scallion pancakes, a side of spinach and hot tea. This was enough to feed 2 so I split it all with a friend. The whole meal cost us less than $35.

Don't expect the nicest decor or the waitstaff to remember you (even if you go every day), but you will always get consistently delicious food. I was thirsty for the entire day afterwards but I would go back again and again.

  2. Soup dumplings are like a happiness bouquet! I love dumplings and when I lived in Manhattan this place was my favorite. Many years later it is still amazing!!!! The scallion pancake is another wonderful dish! And the cold sesame noodles were salty & sweet heaven. I love this soup dumpling paradise!! I had the pork soup dumplings and 8 is enough to fill your tummy with goodness. Worth the time if you have to wait because they have the best dumplings!! The rest of the party liked the beef & broccoli and sautéed veggies. Dumplings rock!!

  3. Delicious and cheap.  We went in with a party of 6 and was lucky enough to get a table right away.  The soup dumping are good and cheap!  The crab ones come with crab meat right on top!  The pork chop noodle soup was also delicious.  The pork chop had nice amount of 5 spice powder and was nice and juicy.

  4. 4 stars for seriously one of the cheapest flavorful meals in Manhattan with the best soup dumplings you will ever get. We have been coming here for years

    Hypes:
    – I'm not one to even comment on price, but this is CHEAP (26 bucks for our whole meal of 4 dishes and a coke)
    – food comes out super hot and super fast
    – you have to get scallion pancakes
    – if you want to try a traditional chinese dish not found in traditional Chinese restaurants, order the rice cakes with preserved cabbage and shredded pork. I love it.
    – General Tso's chicken – fresh and crispy. Eat it while its hot. Definitely more flavorful than other places

    Gripes:
    – not super friendly staff but thats just how it is here
    – you feel rushed out bc they start picking your plates up without asking (even when that last bite you save to eat last is still sitting on that plate)
    – not super clean

Tip/Hack: Instead of ordering a whole dish, order the dish over rice – and its smaller and half the price (last page of menu)

For baby-rents: No high chairs for babies but they have booster seats.

  5. It's a classic Chinatown mom and pop, having been at the same location under three different names (so a local told me). Be ready for efficient and slightly impersonal service, food coming out in weird cadence and basic decor.

Ok we good with all this? Strap in and let's go for a ride.

Their XLB is fabulous. It ain't DTF but definitely one of the better I've had in awhile. We also went with pan fried buns (ok), scallion pancakes (yes please) and some Shanghainese noodles (reorder ASAP). I would love to come back for more their steamed buns – suspect they'll be winners.

You know what else is super duper cool? Three of us, super full, walked out with a $23 bill. The two ice creams we got across the road cost about the same.

    Can't go wrong

  6. I was recommended to come here when I asked about good soup dumplings, and they did not disappoint.  My friend and I order 2 trays (1 pork 1 crab) and they were both delicious.  The pork ones seems little heavier but at $5 a tray ($6 for crab), I'm getting one of each.  The skin is tender and has the perfect texture.  The first time our dumplings were accompanied by vegetable pan fried noodles which were good but put us over the edge.  Next time we went with dry sautéed string beans which were VERY tasty and crunchy.  I think this might be a winning combination.

  7. Great cheap dirty dumplings in NYC.
Pros- cheap, delicious, large portion sizes. Even has free wifi! Staff friendly if not a bit quick to get you eating and gone but happy to answer questions about menu. Offered to wrap up uneaten food in doggy bag for us too.

Cons- very quick in and out no fuss, not the cleanest of places( but dumplings in china town – who are you kidding?) beers we ordered were warm.

    Food delicious. Go.

  8. Small restaurant with about 25 seats, staff is quick to greet you and take your order. Upon entering the restaurant there is a counter like that of a pizza shop on which there is a lady making soup dumplings.  We order chicken with shanghai cabbage over rice, shredded pork & szechuan cabbage noodle soup, an order of steam crab soup dumplings, and rice cake with shrimp. All together the food was expedited fast and very efficiently. It seems like the manager was tending the tables making sure the food was coming out on time. I noticed a lot of American people having lunch, they gave me a sense that they are regulars. Certainly my meal was under $30 for 4ppl with plenty of food. On the other hand, i did miss that they are. Currently with a C – grade from the department of sanitation. I will continue to report on this new finding.
