  1. nice views and nice staff. the waiters were super friendly and there was a lot to like about this place in terms of kitch and charm but it's a restaurant, not a gift shop, so i have to judge the food. For 20 dollars i ordered seafood salad and what showed up was more of a stew of oil & vinegar with iceberg lettuce and ice-cold just dethawed scallops and calamari. i tried my friend's shrimp pasta which was far better. so perhaps i cannot extrapolate to the entire menu, but stay away from the seafood salad. from viewing neighboring tables, i'd guess the swordfish sandwich is your best bet.

i can see a lot of tourists getting roped in en-route to Rocaway beach.

here's my recommendation to the restaurant: no more frozen seafood. you're not a supermarket, you're a seafood restaurant. get it together people!

  2. Yeah…another place that was just ok.  Nothing super special except the location is pretty cool if you get seating near the water.  The food wasn't too bad, but it was anything special.  I don't foresee myself feeling the need to return.  They definitely give you good portions of food and the wait staff is very friendly.  I had some type of chicken that was saturated in butter and lemon juice.  I like my meat thin (i know not many do, but I do) and the meat was thinly sliced so I enjoyed that.  The side items…mashed potato was simply mashed potato with a hint of seasoning…I took home a dessert item that I can't remember what it was….some kind of pie…anyway that wasn't too bad.  Desserts often take me away unless they are burnt or something…so they really couldn't go wrong with that. Overall as i stated in the star section an okay time was had here.

  3. We sat at the bar, since the dining room was full and reservation only. We ordered coconut shrimp, lobster bisque and a dozen little necks. I ordered a wine and we ordered two waters. The bartender brought my wine. We asked for two waters a second time. We were brought one water. The shrimp came in about about three minutes, which was weird but the did taste good. I sort of think they were for another table and the tickets got messed up, or else it takes them 30 seconds to fry shrimp.

An hour went by and there were no clams or soup. We asked and they said they were coming. Enough time went by after the first time we asked and we said that we had to go and would just take the check. The food finally came out after that. I don't know how the servers/bartenders didn't notice our food had not come. They were busy and the kitchen could mess up, but I would think they could have a little bit of a concern when someone sitting there for over an hour hasn't gotten two things that don't even need to be cooked.

One of the bartenders didn't seem to care and the other was extremely apologetic. The manager (I assume, as he was wearing a tie and the others were not) came behind the bar to get a cup full of ice and very audibly and nastily snapped "WHERE IS THE F*CKING ICE SCOOPER??" and proceeded to be generally unpleasant to the staff until he walked away.

I can't stand when managers and owners are rude to their employees, especially in front of people. And I think it is super unprofessional to not give a sh*t about your clientele and swear in front of them. If this place is trying to be fancy, it wasn't doing a good job the day I went.

  4. I love this lobster place. I have been coming here since I was about 7 years old. I have had countless birthday celebrations here. The prices are affordable for seafood. I have had my excellent experiences, and my horrible experiences (service). Based on my last two visits in the past two years, I have had positive experiences. I am not sure if they still offer this deal, but I loved it when they had "buy one lobster get one free" on Tuesday's! Excellent!

They have outdoor seating, and seating that overlooks the water.

  5. Another one of my favorite places to dine…especially during the summer months. The scenic view is exquisite as I have had an opportunity to eat in this restaurant that overlooks the water.  I have experienced being in this lovely place which provides a calming and peaceful ambiance as I eat fresh fish, scallops and linguine. My mouth waters as I wait for the delicious fresh bread and butter to come to the table.

  6. I have been meaning to try this place after driving past it for years, and I finally got the chance 7/28/15. Took a group of 4 to celebrate a birthday for 2 ladies craving a lobster fix. Honestly, didn't know what to expect but all of my expectations were surpassed.
Decor: simple, comfortable. Tables are close but not uncomfortably tight. Our reservation for 4 was at 2, but we got there early and were seated within minutes. Despite the early hour on a Tuesday, the first dining area was almost completely full. We were the first group seated in the second dining area but it quickly filled up. I suspect this place will be packed after 5.  (Outside was closed but on a heatwave day no-one would have been interested anyway. But the outdoor seating did look nice)
Food: Turns out it was 2 for 1 Lobster Tuesdays. That explained the rapidly filling place. What a deal! We started with the house salads, gingerales and coffee. I don't eat lobster myself, but 2 of my companions ordered it with a side of corn and fries and a side of rice. For 4.95 extra my friend also ordered shrimp with the lobster. I got the fillet of sole sandwich with a side of seafood stuffing.
First, our waiter brought fresh, hot bread with butter to the table within minutes of taking our orders. Considering how busy it was this young man was really on top of yhings for the most part. The salads were large and fresh with a decent amount of cucumbers and tomatoes. Very impressive.
Now I will caution that if you're getting the lobster, you definitely need an appetizer cause they take a while to prepare it. HOWEVER, everything is totally worth the wait. My friends could not stop extolling on the tasty marvelousness and obvious freshness of the Lobster and shrimp. A lot of times seafood is so salty and overseasoned…NOT AT NICK'S!!
My fish sandwich was great but the standout for me? The seafood stuffing. It was soooo good and the side was so large I was able to share it with the rest of yhe table. As a matter of fact all of the portions were large enough to take home leftovers.
I really enjoyed Nick's and will definitely return. I'm curious about the crab cakes which I heard were pretty good. Other reviewers mentioned priceyness? I could not disagree more. It's fresh seafood people! Come on!
A few issues, cause no place is perfect, our waiter did forget one side of rice BUT he immediately took it off the bill and apologized. And honestly, with everything else my friend didn't miss the rice.

  7. The only reason why this is not a five star experience was because service was a little bit on the slow side and our meal got mixed up with another table's food twice!

That being said, I love nick's lobster. Their lobster bisque makes me drool! I have literally driven across Brooklyn to get some. Sooooo worth it!

I also had the shrimp scampi which was very good and have been here on a Tuesday for their two for one lobster deal! Fun! Topped it all off with their sangria which was excellent!!

I might be back on a weekly basis!

  8. Don't know why people wait over an hour at Red Lobster!!

Seafood is good, not sure why anyone would go there for anything else. Snow crab legs and lobster are a good bet.
Apps are decent, sides are average; service is just fine.
