Nice enough Italian place but not special, so I agree with the average three star rating. I stopped by today for lunch with a coworker. Room is nice enough, maybe just a little old fashioned decor, nothing grabbed me. White tablecloth service. Wait staff is very good, definitely a plus.
No background music today.
Our meal was OK but did not impress. My friend had a house salad – good; followed by the homemade Orechiette served with Pork Barcciola – good but forgettable. I had the soup of the day – Escarole with White Beans – which was very nice and a generous serving. My entree was the Chicken Marsala – which disappointed. I did not taste a Marsala – more of a simple white wine sauce which was not reduced properly and too astringent
The bread was very nice. Decent espresso to finish. We got in and out in under an hour for lunch which was helpful since we needed to get back to the office.
Busy at lunch today, but I think that some of the other Italian places locally may be better. Good if you live in the area, not worth a drive.
We have eaten at Nicola's twice. The first time was for my nieces christening party and the second time was just a family dinner. The first experience was so good we wanted to go back. The food is phenomenal and the service is excellent. I don't think there is one thing on the menu that isn't worth ordering. The menu they provided for the christening party was served family style and the portions were huge. Salad, fried calamari, antipasto, pasta, stuffed mushrooms, main course and dessert. I think I'm leaving a few things out. There was so much food I can't remember all of it. What I do remember is that it was fantastic. They were so busy that day and the servers were still attentive. The atmosphere is also perfect! Our family dinner last week was also fantastic! Even the bread is spectacular!
I had dinner here on New Years Eve and was happy to finally try this place out. My friend had been telling me about Nicolas for a while. Originally my date could only get a 4:30pm reservation time which we understood due to it being a holiday but upon arriving and sitting for a while I think they definitely could have squeezed in our party of 2 a bit later. That's really my only complaint. Our waiter was very nice and helpful when we were ordering. Im wasy surprised they're a BYO but I love a great BYO place. The menu wasn't prefixed but was a bit limited from their normal menu. Everything on it though sounded yummy. We opted for the Burrata appetizer which was awesome mozz, tomato and prosciutto could have used some balsamic drizzle but still a very good dish. For entrees I got the seabass over escarole and beans- loved and he got the tilapia stuffed with crab. I tried his but liked mine better. For dessert I got the tiramisu and he got the peanut butter tartufo. I definitely would like to go back when they have their regular menu and maybe not at a senior citizens dining time.
recommended to me by one of my acquaintance , soso, Nicolas does not know the word al dente when it comes to pappardella, we had the pasta floating in too much water, it was almost like a broth. fried calamari was too breaded, shrimps were excellent, the hot antipasto was nice for two.the atmosphere is nice and a bit Italian kitch interior , It is ok for the neighborhood if you are too tired or lazy to go eat in a real Italian place in Manhattan. Or drive on the other side of Rte 46 to LU nello. better food.
I really enjoy this place. My company came here for our annual holiday party back to back. I recently came here for a birthday dinner. The food is great, the decor is nice, and it isn't too loud or quiet. My only problem was with our waiter – Let's just say the bus boy was outshining him. =/
I've been to this restaurant a bunch of times. I work in the same town, so my company likes to have special gatherings here, mostly lunches with the occasional dinner. Nicola's has a very nice menu for large group gatherings. It's about $40 pp and includes hot and cold antipasto (quite plentiful), bread, a salad course, a pasta course, a choice of entree, some pastries, and coffee or tea. I generally get filled up in the earlier courses, so lately I've opted to have them wrap my entree and enjoy it for lunch the next day. I definitely recommend this menu if you have a group. The rigatoni vodka is delicious. Excellent vodka sauce. For the entrees, the two most recent ones I've eaten (within the last week) were Stuffed Tilapia (topped with crabmeat) and Chicken Florentine (topped with spinach and cheese with a white wine sauce). The tilapia was enjoyable, however, I did find shell mixed into the crabmeat. That was not the most pleasant thing to bite into. The Chicken Florentine was delicious though. Great flavor and plenty of spinach and cheese on top. The entrees were served with potatoes and a vegetable. I went here only once when we didn't have the group menu. And I ordered the Zuppa Di Pesce Alla Nicola. I wanted a dish without any dairy as well as a healthier option (no cream sauce here). This hit the spot. Generous servings of lobster tail, grilled calamari, shrimp, scallops, mussels, & clams in a broth. I definitely will be going back here again.
If you're looking for an Italian, fine dining experience, look no further. Nicolas is an excellent choice for someone who is not against paying a pretty penny for some fine Italian cuisine. This restaurant is a favorite among my entire family. We practically throw every single family event here. Their menu is large and has a lot to offer and when you sit down your waiter/waitress will read you an extensive list of daily specials. I honestly don't know how they remember all the details of all the specials….its crazy. I think their food is solid, it always lives up to my expectations. I try to switch up my orders just because everything is so good but I tend to order the shitake mushroom raviolis a lot….they are amazing. Another bonus, its BYOB. While you are paying higher prices for food, you don't have to worry about a hefty liquor bill….love that perk. Side note, there is a place in the same strip that you can buy wine and select liquors/6 packs at…but its overpriced. I suggest coming prepared so you are not subjected to overpaying for booze. If you plan on dining here on special occasions (valentines day, etc.) you will absolutely need a reservation. This place gets jammed packed on "regular days". Although, on non special occasions, you need to have a larger party to make a reservation.
This is a very large and popular BYOB Italian restaurant located in a strip mall near Union Blvd. There are a few outdoor tables in front of the restaurant. My family was one of many families dining in the restaurant. It seems that Nicola's attracts larger groups, as there are many tables for eight through the restaurant.
The waiter was excellent, five stars for him. Complimentary bruschetta, eggplant tapanade, and Italian bread to start. Appetizers were decent. The food coming out of the kitchen was a bit slow, but it was very crowded so it's understandable. Unfortunately, the entrees that came out (over one hour after ordering) were mediocre. Several of the dishes had linguini that was undercooked. Chicken marsala sauce was sort of orange and mushrooms sort of looked canned.
To sum up, Nicola's is a nice place for a family get together and BYOB, but there are other Italian restaurants in the area I'd say have better food.
