Excellent meal and friendly attentive staff.
This spot sits alone on a main road across the street from the water, and offers outdoor seating, so while it has nice views of the bay , you have to tolerate the cars whizzing by. Despite that it has always had certain charm, even as its previous occupant.
As far as the meal, I was not sure what Peruvian Japanese was going to be like, but they offered mostly traditional Japanese fare but with some nice twists. Our meals came with the miso soup and salad, as seems to be the common, but both were better in some way than the standard I am used to.
We started with the Tuna Poke, and it had a nice spicy bite, but not overpowering. I ordered the short ribs which is not an offering one would expect. It was boneless and on a bed of cauliflower that had an excellent peppery seasoning. My wife got the cod, which had a nice crispy outer with a tender body and a nice flavor. Everything seemed to have an unexpected but welcoming spice, and tasted great.
We did not try the sushi, but our neighbors reported it was very good.
I plan on visiting again soon.
I wish I loved this place but I think it suffers from poor service and an identity crisis. Is it Japanese? Is it Peruvian? I would say it's both but that's such an odd combo. I want to say pick one and knock it out of the park – don't mediocrely do both.
Took 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and seat us. We didn't have menus for another 5-10 minutes. Food was good but VERY overpriced for what you get. Three 2" long tacos for $15 is off. (See photos.) Cevich Mixta was good. Sushi was also good but VERY SMALL roll for $15, again. Mushroom salad was delicious but again, overpriced.
Will not be going back. Would rather get equally delicious raw fish elsewhere in Port Washington (and there are plenty of options) for half the price.
