  1. Before I start I want to say that Nina's food is absolutely delicious! I have been coming here since I was 15 years old and delight in every meal I have although the pasta fagioli soup is my absolute favorite soup on the planet! I am fortunate to have been able to attend private parties here where the service is always friendly and accommodating! I have had Romano as a server many times who always works hard to get you everything you want and need. But I have to say something important… The wait for the food is always VERY long. Honestly I think this is because the food always tastes so fresh and homemade that it is as if every meal is prepared from scratch. However I also feel this is because they are catering to their private parties, order ins, and takeout which is a whole lot to manage. If you are willing to wait an hour for food I guarantee the wait is worth it, just make sure you are patient. I love that Nina (partial owner) is always on the floor serving and working with guests. Besides the soup my top three favorites are the potato croquettes filled with potatoes and cheese covered in a crispy breading, the chicken francese with a light breading and lemony taste that feel delightful on the palette, and who can forget the PIZZA with a crispy crust, superb sauce, and a fresh mozzarella cheese! I will keep going back here forever and continue to enjoy the Italian wine bar decor at the private events:) I hope you all enjoy this place as much as I have for the past 15 years!

  2. I stopped in here during Halloween after my sister insisted the pizza was awesome. I trusted her and didn't check my trusty yelp app.

This was the BEST PIZZA I've tried in a long time. Classic Brooklyn cheesy slices. It's all in the sauce. The mozz sticks are freshly made and very big. The marinara sauce was a home run, you can tell that's homemade also.

Why the average rating? The service is atrocious. Bad attitudes all over. It seems like the servers hate their job. You're taking a pizza order, whats so hard about that? Give me a fake smile at least. Now I get why their rating is A-OK.

I didn't dine in their restaurant (which is a separate dining hall in the pizza shop) but I can already imagine the service there. If you can get past lackluster service just for some amazing pizza then I'd recommend this place hands down.

P.S. I hear their delivery is super slow – so don't bother. Drop in for pizza, or take it to go if you want to experience it nice and fresh.

  3. This was the first restaurant I ate in as a recent (and temporary) Brooklyn resident and it's safe to say that I'm going to be one of those people that complain about pizza in every other city from this point forward. Granted, I've only been here for a short time and have already found a few new pizza places I'd like to try out, but Nina's was a great eye-opener into the splendor of New York slices.

The thing I noticed right away about this place that could be good or bad, depending on what kind of pizza-eater you are, is that not much is simple. For example, while they offer cheese slices, simple pleasures like pepperoni and sausage aren't as easy to come by, although they have them if you ask. I went for a broccoli-chicken-cheese slice and was not disappointed. I ate with two others in the casual part of the restaurant, but wouldn't mind going to the nicer part for a pasta dinner since the dishes on the menu sounded delicious (not to mention both domestic and imported beers are less than $4). Other exciting features including my mother's choice of the rice ball- an interesting concoction of rice and meat that wasn't my cup of tea, but maybe it's yours.

I'm not sure about the nicer side of the restaurant, but the service in the casual area was beyond helpful; I was surprised to read the recent review about bad service. All in all, a slice from Nina's is very filling and, most importantly, relatively cheap.

  4. The pizzeria chunk of this place is decent – food is cheap and massive. The pizza is serviceable but really nothing special, but sweet dancing Shiva, it's cheap. CHEAP. And massive. Actually, maybe this is more exceptional than I'm giving it credit. Cheap, decent pizza is sort of a big deal. The service is quick and friendly and this review is thus far extremely boring. Moving on.

The back, restaurant portion is like a time capsule of 1994. Do you have a kind of tacky Italian-American aunt, who likes silk plants and collects crappy romantic sculptures (and I say this with love)? Then you know what it looks like in here. This is the kind of place you imagine you'll see on Kitchen Nightmares, where the decor requires gawking close ups of the bizarro kitsch details – loooook at these mahhhhhhhble caaaaaahlumns. And you know, this is absolutely the kind of place that WOULD be on Kitchen Nightmares, because on top of the sort of confusing decor ("what the fuck are these awful statues?" – this is what I imagine Gordon Ramsay would say at some point), the food is crazy cheap, kinda bland, and served in portions that make you wonder if the chef is some kind of lumbering giant/decathalon fiend who thinks it's normal to eat an entire box of penne in one sitting. With a complimentary loaf of bread on the side. But of course! And I love that because such carbohydrates are my crack. Mmm! Crack!

The thing that makes Nina's ever-so special, however, is the service. You're well attended to since you'll likely be the ONLY people in the dining room if you go to the secret, hidden, restaurant half (true in my experience 9 times out of 10, except for a few notable exceptions, like when 2 older neighborhood ladies came in with 3 little kids and loudly announced they wanted to sit in the back "so the kids can run around" – WIN!). The waiter guy is super friendly and the food is fast and huge, it's just kind of bland…

Yet that doesn't stop us from coming back, which probably has something to do with its proximity to where I live. I wish I could give this place an extra half-star for friendliness… But it's just serviceable. Huge portions, friendly staff, food that won't kill you, ta daaaaaaa.

  5. I'm a traveler – not a native, so you must understand what I'm comparing against.

Places like this are the reason why ex-New Yorkers in Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles complain about the quality of the pizza.  Nina's is pleasant-looking, but unassuming in appearance.  It has none of the hubbub or the hype of Grimaldi's.

But the pizza is simply delicious.  They serve it hot, it has tons of cheese, and the crust is well flavored, firm and perfectly (slightly) charred from the brick oven.

We also shared an order of delicious pumpkin ravioli in vodka sauce, which they graciously split for us.  I imagine that they pick up their pastas (and possibly the sauces) from a nearby deli.  Both the pasta and the sauce were flavorful and fresh.

The servers at the restaurant were welcoming, kind, and friendly.

And best of all, this place is inexpensive – $2.25 for a large slice of cheese and $2.75 for a bottle of Stella.  And their new restaurant section features a TV for watching sports.

  6. The slices were giant, which is nice for those of us who enjoy large food at low prices. On the downside, you may still have some dough left after you get through the good stuff.

I wasn't a fan of the vegetable slice, where the toppings didn't make up for the absence of tomato sauce. But the plain slice had good sauce plus an appealing sauce-to-cheese ratio,

  7. This might have been the actual worst food I have ever had in my entire life. I ordered butternut squash ravioli, green beans and mashed potatoes (super healthy balance, ha!). When my delivery arrived 30 minutes after the seamless estimated delivery window, I was in total shock. The 5 ravioli so cold/old they were stuck into this "Alfredo" sauce that tasted like fish. The green beans were room temperature and so soggy…like week old thanksgiving leftovers. The mashed potatoes looked inedible. I tried and spit out. They were lumpy and had a weird flavor that was in no way "potato". I think all the food was super old. I should have checked yelp first; they had 5 stars on seamless. I hate that I just wasted money on food but it is completely inedible and I do not advise ordering from here. Ever.
