I give Nocello's a 3.5…
Traveled through the horrible cold to meet a group of my girlfriends for dinner at Nocello's the other night. We were under the impression that we were going to test run their restaurant week menu, which was ON their website. But to our surprise, apparently it was their menu from last YEAR and they haven't updated their site… kinda lame…
But we shrugged it off and decided to just browse through their regular menu. We never had a problem with laying down good money for good food! And Nocello's food was pretty good… not amazing.
Service was a tad bit too much…
Now granted, a table full of cute, friendly, young women is always nice, but they definitely would linger longer than was comfortable and made comments that were very close, if not slightly over the line of appropriate.
Now this is coming from a girl who lived in Italy for half a year and I know a thing or two about Italian men coming on strong… but we were there to spend a nice ladies night together… not to be stalked by waiters hoping we would give them our phone numbers…
And when we didnt, they would just stand there and stare…
That is reserved for a bar…
Other than that… service was (very) attentive… food was pretty good.
Don't really know if Id go back though…
I think Im actually more of a fan of the Japanese restaurant right down the street.

Got the lobster pasta special, and my mom got the mushroom risotto. Everything was delicious!
The service however, was a bit sparse. Hence the 4/5 stars.
This quaint little restaurant makes for the perfect pre-theater dinner spot. The service is quick and friendly, and the food is very good! A bit on the pricey side, but the portions are generous enough to share.
Definitely consider checking Nocello out if you want a nice, quiet dinner before a show! All of the theaters are a stone's throw away, but you don't feel suffocated by the Times Square hooplah.
Summary: Good for business dinners and for an older age group. Good Italian restaurant in an area full of good Italians. Closes at 10p.m. on a Friday – a little early for me.
The Atmosphere: This is a nice restaurant where the men wear jackets. The decor is old school. But it's nice for sure.
The Food: The real notable was the Cozze della Casa (mussels). We continued to dip bread in the juice long after we finished scarfing down the last of the mussels. All the rest was solidly good, but not quite as memorable to our party of five.
The real positive: This place will always be low key. If you have a gigantic group and need to find a decent place for dinner, given the size of this place, you could easily work it out to have your events here.
Final notes: Seriously, how cute is a restaurant that has a mechanism to make little hearts in their coffee! Our waiter was so nice that he gave us extra hearts upon request.
Ah Midtown, you are a dearth of affordable yet delicious restaurants. Nocello is definitely more of a moderate restaurant, but not quite sure if it was worth it. I think paying a few more bucks for better food would be well worth it.
The place is so cozy and upscale. We sat in the back room and although tight quarters (they really pack ya in there), it was still quite a nice ambiance. The piping hot bread to start was a great sign, but that's where the meal started to nose dive. The entree's took forever to come out. No biggie, but waiting almost 40 minutes for our meals on a Sunday at 7pm was a bit painful. The entree's came out.
My chicken with eggplant at ($20) wasn't huge, which is ok, but the chicken was thick and dry and not flavorful or fresh. Topped with a very small piece of eggplant with some mozzarella and some very basic tomato sauce, this meal wasn't quite good. It was served with some steamed veggies (eh) and some pretty flavorless mashed potatoes. I wasn't a fan. My guy got a veal dish and he was even a bit more pissed. His veal dish had a few pieces of super thin, over cooked veal shavings served with the same veggies and potatoes. If my parents weren't there, he would have not eaten any of it, but didn't want to cause a ruckus. My parents seemed happy enough with their pasta and I grabbed a bite and it was fine, nothing outstanding.
Overall, I'd pass on Nocello. You can head to Quality Italian or any of the other highly rated Italian restaurants in the 'hood and spend about $10-15 more on an entree, but have one amazing meal.

Came here prior to seeing a Broadway show. The entrance was a bit weird because when I initially came in I thought I had entered some sort of side entrance because a server was blocking the door while attending to his table. Awkwardly waiting for the guy to get out of my way, I was finally greeted by the hostess who was a little further in the back. I was seated promptly at the back of the restaurant and immediately noticed the weird picture of sexy legs. Yup, just a pair of nice looking legs to accompany my dinner.
Reviewing the menu, to say the least I felt uninspired, nothing on the menu looked particularly appealing and the prices were fairly high. I ordered capellini salmone for my entree and needless to say, I wasn't that impressed. Had you put a plate from olive garden to what Nocello served up, it was fairly pedestrian in that it lacked any pizzazz in the flavor department not to mention the tiny portion of salmon which I'm sure was farm raised for 6.99/lbs. I've definitely had much better pastas at other restaurants and I wouldn't be rushing back here again.
This place always has solid Italian food.
Nothing bad to say about it but definitely not a place I actively seek out.
