The Story: This *was* my to go place for Spanish food. They started out very good and now they well..just suck.
Food: Food was bland and average. The steak is dry and tough. Food was served to me cold, which means it was sitting there for a WHILE!
Price: It's over priced for what you get in my opinion. Of course it's currently bias based on the experience I've had.
Decor: Tasteless.
Service: BAD BAD BAD. If I could vomit the word "BAD" I would. We waited about 75 mins for our table. They had purposely seated other guest before my group (probably a race thing, actually I'm pretty sure its a race thing). This establishment is racist! I should not wait 75 mins for a table. The waiters are clueless and our water didn't come to us until 20 mins AFTER we got seated down. Yeah dinner lasted WAY TOO LONG.
Parking & Finding the Place: Street parking.
Additional Thoughts: DO NOT COME HERE
Michael was such a great server. He was so attentive and nice that i was just so happy with his service. I came here with my friend for dinner thursday night and the weather was very nice and we sat outside. We had the chicharron with Guac for appetrizer and it was so good. I had the Sprimp in garlic sauce dish that came with white rice and tostanos. The portions are so generous and the food is just delicious. I absolutely can't wait to go back when I am in town.
this is just one of those places when you want rice & beans and there's nothing else nearby or open. I always find the food mediocre at best. overpriced and just ok. but their warm cheesy bread is always so good! I've been to the one in Passaic, Clifton & Englewood and all the same.
We went here for lunch, and were so excited for the food. The restaurant is clean and family friendly. They serve below average cocktails, wine, and limited selection on beers.
They were busy during lunch time and it was somewhat unorganized, in my head i'm thinking who cares as long as the food is good that's all I care about.
We ordered the following:
Chorizo: they were pretty good, since it was for an appetizer so the portion was kinda small.
The crispy pig intestines: it was somewhat crispy, however they were so rubbery and need at least salt. All you taste is the pig intestines and fat, which I really don't mind but would be better if it was seasoned properly.
Mini empanadas: the wrapper was good but the filling was somewhat bland and need more seasoning. They didn't come with any type of salsa, I had to ask for salsa.
rice and beans: this was probably the best and well seasoned dish out all the things that we ordered.
The passion fruit mojito was just okay.
It's close and convenient, but don't go in here expecting super awesome food. Ohh btw, if you're not into fried food this is probably not for you since most of the stuff are fried.
One word. Chicharron. How can you not love deep fried pork? My friends and I got several dishes and shared and my favorite was the steak with chimichurri sauce. Also a surprising worthy mention was the grilled chicken, which I did not expect. The chicken was so juicy and seasoned perfectly. Also a must is also the cheesy bread.
Although the food is good, didn't give it more stars because the service is terrible. Our bread came out cold. We also waited almost 40 mins for the food to come out. They would forget stuff and we would ask for it and then never come. One time they completely forgot an order after again waiting almost an hour for food to come out. They are also impossible to get a hold of barely checking in.
Food wise good but get ready to wait and chase down your waiter.
The wait to be seated was LONG- just over an hour. We also had to wait 35 minutes for our food to arrive, which arrived piecemeal over the next 20 minutes.
The beans (frijoles) were good but salty. The steak in our bandeja paisa was over cooked to the point that it was drier and tougher than leather. Our waitress would only take one order at a time, brought us our tab before we ordered desert, etc.
Overall I was not impressed. I have no idea why this place is so incredibly busy. The only thing I give 5 stars for is the music they had playing. Like any real Colombian, they clearly take their salsa seriously!
EDIT: Took a star away because we were brought desert and I realized that they had not taken away a single dirty dish, empty cup, etc. We also had to set our own table and clear our own dishes by stacking them high so that we can put our desert plates down.
2ND EDIT: Took another star away because I realized I was being way to generous. The food was not good, I cannot think of a place were I have received worse service in the last 10 years and the food was pretty expensive for what we got.
No longer BYOB!!!!
I used to really dislike this place, then I grew to like it. Now I have to admit that I'm disappointed that they are no longer BYOB.
Food is pretty good.
Ambience, large, a but cafeteria-like.
Staff is slow!
Usually a long wait.
They have outdoor seating in the summer.
Good empanadas and cappuccinos. The fresh fruit juices aren't bad either. I usually get the pineapple juice.
Well… I will definitely be returning but not as often as I would like to due to price increases and again… No longer BYOB.
Gotta take it down a peg for NOT BEING BYOB ANYMORE. Much sadness. Food is still good. Empanadas are still amazing, a must have.
