MY GOD. THIS IS IT. IF YOU NEED MATCHA, NOHOHON IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS!
Every time I take a sip I can taste fresh earthy notes of the matcha. If words could describe the feeling it would probably be you sifting through a solid green pasture on a sunny day with cool wind blowing in your face. Pure serenity.
HIT: Matcha is TOP-GRADE, you can taste the world in your drink. Server was fast, informative, friendly and very skilled.
MISS: No misses. This place is the shit.
Food – 5/5

Portion Size – GOOD
I WILL BE BACK FOR HEAVEN IN A CUP.
Nohohon. Yohoho.
Emphasis on "room"- singular. For some reason, I was under the impression it'd be tea ceremony-esque, ornate with floor pillows, kimonos, and top knots. The cashier does the little thing with the wooden whisk on the matcha in ceremonial fashion, so that's cool. And there is a little bench, so I can't really complain.
I ordered the Matcha Haze, which is described as matcha with hazelnut; it delivered what it promised but the flavors weren't as robust as I was expecting. You might've not even have known it was hazelnut, if someone didn't tell you. I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wish I bought my friend's drink instead: the Furano Fields. The lavender really comes through to create a new flavor. Again, the matcha wasn't as prominent but somehow I think that's the point? Maybe it's one of those things where quality is subtlety. I dunno, I'd come back here.
Dropped by this place after lunch to grab some bubble tea 🙂 They are located right next door to sing sing, so walk up those steps and you'll find them on the left. The place is extremely small, there's basically only work space for one employee, and one bench for customers to sit/wait at. Pretty zen-like place with soothing music; this is more of a gourmet matcha bubble tea place, much more sophisticated than a regular chinatown bubble tea place, hence the higher prices (starts at $4.40 for a small).
Matcha is obviously featured on their menu, so they put a lot of care into making their matcha green tea that goes into the bubble tea. They use the traditional bamboo whisk (chasen), a tea bowl (matcha chawan) and a cute little wooden whisk for the water/matcha. You have a choice of either adding red bean or tapioca to your drink. I ordered the Furano Field, which is apparently their most popular drink. It's the fresh matcha latte but with lavender flavors added. I love how light their drinks taste, you kinda feel like you're drinking something healthy haha (I suppose matcha is pretty healthy!). They didn't ask for the level of sweetness, but nothing here is overly sweet, so don't worry about that.
They are also completely dairy-free and use only soy/almond milk, so YAY for lactose intolerant people!
*Even though there's no bathroom here, they offer the use of sing sing's bathrooms for their customers.
This place is less of a tea room and more of a tea closet. It's very small and more of a grab-and-go type place, as a warning for those that expected a sit down tea room (although there's a small bench inside).
I got the Tokyo fog with half red bean half boba and soy milk, and this drink wasn't much to write home about. Sure, I could taste a hint of matcha, but it didn't taste as strong to me as I would have hoped. The texture of the boba was too mushy. I did like the red bean flavor, but overall, the entire drink was just bland.
Likely not going back, as there are many other coffee/tea/boba places in EV.
Thanks for the owners' effort to bring me back and tried some real good stuff here.
And yes,
get their lavender aka Tokyo thing
It's perfect.
You can choose either add sugar or without sugar and topping.
The owner does care about this business and she has been put some great efforts on it.
RECOMMEND!
Thanks!
Props to Cynthia D. for finding this "hidden" matcha place. During my first visit, I walked passed by this place twice and had a hard time finding the place. You'll have to spot the Nohohon Tea logo signage and walk up the stairs. It's an extremely small space and it's more of a grab and go spot.
I had tried three different flavors. I always picked almond milk with half tapioca and half red bean. All the drinks were light and not loaded with sugar. Here I ranked my favorite to least favorite matcha drinks:
1) Furano Field- Cynthia D. recommended me to try it. This was the 1st drink that I tried here actually and it's my favorite. You'll taste the matcha with a hint of lavender. Interesting and great drink.
2) Tokyo Fog- It was slightly bitter. I barely taste the Vanilla flavor.
3) Green Haze- I didn't enjoy it at all. It took awhile for me to finish the drink. I guess I'm not a fan of hazelnut flavor.
Overall, I'm a fan of the Furano Field drink and I recommend that for sure. They also use the "FiveStars" app as their customer rewards program. I used the "upgrade my drink size" offer and the "buy 1 get 1 free" offer. So take advantage of that if you do enjoy the matcha drinks here.
I gotten into all things Matcha and that includes teas. And I notice some of my Yelper friends have good things to say about Nohohon. So I guess I need to find out for myself even though like a crack head my brain is saying too me go back to Ippodo Tea for Matcha.
From the other reviews I know I need to look up to find this place and it is tiny, you walk up a flight of stairs and I don't think more than three people can fit in this place. They give me a menu and it's was hot outside and I already did a lot of walking so I ask the Tea-Rista for the Matcha on the Rocks with coconut water, topica and red beans.
So off I go sipping my matcha, my beans disintegrated real quick, it was ok, but but my brain still wants Ippodo Tea again.
I'm mildly obsessed with NOHOHON. This is a very small, quiet, matcha based tea place that offers tasty drinks (looking at you, Tokyo Fog) and incredibly friendly service. The girl that was working when I stopped by was so sweet, and walked me through the menu and offered suggestions. When I inquired more about the business, she told me all about the owner and how they get their matcha from Japan… but I digress.
There's only a handful of drink options, so you won't be too overwhelmed if you're a first time visitor. They use lactose free bases for their drinks (soy milk, almond milk, coconut water) so they're free to be consumed by all! You can also get tapioca balls, red bean, or both if you're feeling particularly spicy (or indecisive) that day like I was.
This place is above the ground level of the sidewalk and may be easy to miss if you're just a bystander on the street, but if you're looking out for it, you'll definitely find it; there should be a sign visible from the sidewalk.
