After finding out our first choice of restaurant had closed for the day, my friends and I rushed over during the storm to this diner. Why not? They have a parking lot and side street parking. Oh they also have valet parking!
They have a good amount of seating in this diner and they also have clean restrooms! So don't be afraid to walk in there..
Usually when I come here, I always ordered their waffles despite whatever time of day it is… Those I highly recommend.. This time was different though. Had to order non breakfast foods!
The food we ordered was amazing: monte cristo, crab cake pasta, baked potato skin, and Manhattan clam chowder. Also, we ordered a salad with an oil based dressing.
The Manhattan clam chowder is not like the New England clam chowder! It's not creamy and it's a tomato based broth loaded with vegetables. It's delicious especially when you dip the bread they served you into the chowder. Where have I been all these years?!
Compared to the soup, unfortunately, we ignored the salad… Loved the huge servings of vegetables but if we picked a better dressing, maybe we would have loved it…
Monte cristo is something that has a breakfast twist! It's sweet and savory with a perfect amount of saltiness from the cheese. It's served on French toast and of course the cheese was all melted all over! It was delicious! Syrup was poured over it and it was even better! Oddly, it was served with a side of cold slaw and pickles but that's fine.
Baked potato skins with bacon and cheese served with sour cream is just like any other baked potato skin. Of course, I had to smother tobacco sauce all over it!
Crab cake pasta is exactly what it is! Two large crab cakes served with a side of angel hair pasta and marinara. It also came with some sauce for the crab cake (tartar sauce?). This was pretty good! I had plenty of flavored and paired well with the pasta (shocking!)… Of course we had to pour cheese all over that. – we are cheese people!
As for the wait staff, they were amazing! They kept coming around and made sure we were doing good. Our waiter had a great sense of humor! The girls in the front were sweet and so was the owner (I am just assuming he is….). We had asked them to put away our delicious Haagen Daz ice cream cake and right before we left, they helped us pull the birthday surprise off! They even offered to capture the moment on camera (which they did!).
Thank you, North Shore Diner, for making my friend's birthday special! We will see you soon again for more of that delicious food!
After coming to North Shore Diner twice, I don't plan on coming back.
I give them credit for their wide array of food choices on the menu, and I've enjoyed their chocolate chip pancakes. I learned that it's important to go for the basics with the food here: you get your money's worth for things like pancakes and challah french toast, and not so much for more complex items like eggs benedict.
The salmon eggs benedict isn't worth the $15.25 it costs: it's doused in sauce, so it looks overwhelming and, I'm guessing, tastes overwhelming as well. When I told the waiter why I wanted to order something else, he was very dry in how he interacted with me ("Okay, what do you want to order now?"). No apology, no empathy, no human qualities were shown that would make me think our conversation was more than a transaction.
I opted for the challah bread (which is not the braided bread I expected but challah french toast: there's a difference and the menu doesn't specify this), with honey and eggs. I'm glad I made this switch, since it was a basic, straightforward breakfast menu item.
Asking for and paying for my check was inconvenient: I asked one of the waiters for my check, and he said, "Your server is coming", when he actually wasn't: I spotted my server at the bar, hugging and conversing with a friend. So I ended up packing my belongings and walking up to him to ask for my check.
One of the waitresses processed my bill, and she was a bit strange: she was peeking at my receipt as I wrote down how much tip I would give, so I took several steps back from her so I could have some privacy. (Girl, you need to chill out about how much tip I'm giving you!) After I gave the merchant copy receipt to her, she said, "Thanks" with a grim face and after I exited, I saw, through the diner window, that she was examining the receipt I wrote on. I didn't appreciate that her priority was on finding out how much tip I'd give than on interacting with me positively and courteously. All I know is, I won't be giving this business any more of my money.
If I could pick no stars I would. Sorry- but when I become sick from your food just ONCE I'll never go to your establishment again. I ordered a chicken soup and not twenty mins later I was sick to my stomach in the bathroom all night. NEVER AGAIN! Clearly something was wrong with the soup because it's pretty rare that a soup will make you that sick. Perhaps left out too long, not a cleanly area around it, or just plain bad. I don't know- but I'll never set foot in there again or recommend it to anybody.
I am so glad I came here on a Tuesday. The Tuesday omelette special was beast. Everything was just about under $10 and came with an omelette, home fries (or a similar potato dish), choice of soup, and coffee. It was honestly a pretty sweet breakfast deal. I had no complaints about the food, it was decent, especially for the price. The service was prompt and was friendly. If you are in the area and are looking for a breakfast spot, come to North Shore Diner!
There is valet parking here. Parking around the local area should not be too difficult.
This is an OK place to enjoy breakfast. I made a suggestion to come here with hubby and mother-in-law because we've been going to quite the same Diner that's closer to mommy's. So I wanted something for a change. I remember this place from a visit to mommy's doctor nearby and we stopped to get some tuna sandwich for lunch. The sandwich was better than the most places, so I thought why not try breakfast here. After trying the breakfast here, it's nothing that's really that special. I would probably come back but not for breakfast, maybe lunch. I ordered the western omelette. It's not bad but not great. My mother-in-law had a vegetable omelette. Mommy and I both had out breakfast served with lettuce and tomatoes. These 2 are fresh. I cleanup all the lettuce! Hubby had turkey bacon and 2 sunny side up eggs. Location is pretty good, Northern and Francis Lewis Boulevards meet. Coffee was ok. Service was ok. I'm ok!
Ordered the Greek Panini which was consisted of feta cheese, spinach, and tomato on pita bread with a side of fries. The food was served extremely quickly as it should have been since it was empty on a Monday afternoon. Our waitress was extremely kind, engaging, and friendly. The cole slaw that came out before the entree was pretty decent without being overwhelmed in mayo which I appreciated. I'll pass on the panini in the future. The bread was extremely soggy and the spinach was flavorless. It all fell apart as I tried to bite into it. I liked that the french fries weren't too salty, but they were also kind of bland. Portion sizes were decent. Maybe another order would have been better, but my choice was subpar.
No frills, classic diner stuck in 90s decor. Breakfast was good and quick with reasonable prices. Staff was friendly and the place was relatively clean. I like how it wasn't overly crowded.
Long-ish wait (upward to 15 minutes) but kind staff (our waitress was attentive but disappeared and forgot a few things we asked for). I'm kind of weird about ice-less, warm water and my corned beef and hash was a bit underwhelming but it was there. The coffee was super burnt so no thanks to a second cup. Also, who serves a burger on a roll instead of a bun? That was weird and according to my partner during this meal that the pickle was good and the coleslaw was …icky.
Thanks, but no thanks.
