  1. More like 3.5. This is literally a block away from my place so I go here often (3-4 times a week). The dry grocery selection is good, lots of options from all over the world- the Caribbean, Mexico, and India. But, the meat section leaves a lot to be desired, everything is in vacuum plastic which really sucks. There aren't any organic options for the meat either, in all likelihood it all comes from big feed lots here in the US. The produce section is ok, not excellent. They do have tons of Mexican ingredients both in produce and in the ethnic foods aisle (which is really good). Often they are sold out of basic herbs which really disappoints when all you need is a bunch of basil or cilantro. The major plus, and perhaps the most impressive part of the store is their beer selection. They give a big nod to craft breweries like Founders, Ommegang, and Snake River and this is very impressive given their location. The prices for the beer are good too. The major downfall is the helpfulness/friendliness of the staff- many of them are Hispanic and they cannot speak good English, my wife asked for Buttermilk a few days ago and the man laughed at here and said it doesn't exist. We felt that this was very ignorant on their part. Often I hear the staff speaking in Spanish about patrons and I think that's very unprofessional. But, we try to ignore this and focus on the good shopping. It's a solid place and if you're in the area or you live nearby NSA is a good place to shop.

  2. Since it's so close, it's my first go to for grocery items. They have any and everything in here and because of the gentrifying neighborhood they also now deliver and have an "organic" aisle. Thanks because no one else wanted those options.
Anyway, you can find everything from tp to brussel sprouts and everything else in between.
They have a fresh fish counter too, which the other grocery stores in the area do not have, but make sure you have enough money, as they are not affiliated with the actual grocery store, you'll have to pay them for the fish, then pay for your groceries separately.
NSA usually has good deals on fruit (they've had a huge barrel of apples on sale for $.79/lb for the longest time and other produce. Actually overall their sales are pretty good. Both the carnivore and the vegetarian (or pescetarian) can find something at this massive grocery store.

  3. Given the choices in the area, NSA is one of the better ones. It combines the size of a full grocery store with the slightly better quality of produce you find in the produce corner stores (but for twice the price). They have a full deli counter as well, where you can get Boar's Head meats and cheeses as well as store-brand items and prepared foods like sandwiches and pasta salads. This place really is gigantic and they have a full beer and mixers section plus a large area of home goods and supplies in addition to all the regular grocery items.

Its a good place to stock up on all your dry goods, and maybe get a select piece of produce, but I still prefer to get most of my fresh items elsewhere. As decent as it is, its still a Lefferts Gardens grocery store, so you can count on the rank smell of salted fish in open barrels and floating pigs feet right past the fresh greens area. They close earlier than most of the other places in the area, so you may want to double check the hours before trying to make a late night trip.

  4. One of those places that looks a lot smaller on the outside than it is on the inside.  I was floored when I walked in.  There are about 3 supermarkets within a 3 block radius.  The prices here are the cheapest.  Just make sure you check expiration dates!  Nice and clean and the set up is great.  Easy to find everything you need.

The staff is OK.  Never had any issues.
