I didn't know what to eat for lunch while I was in the area so I resorted to Yelp for a little help. The first suggestion that popped up was this place so I thought "why not give it a try?"
I wanted to try the sandwiches here but I could've went to Chinatown and bought Vietnamese sandwiches there for half the price and it would even be double the size. So I opted out. The rice bowls sounded good so I settled for that. I had the spicy pork with brown rice. Each rice bowl came with Brussel sprouts, carrots, cilantro and some kind of special yogurt sauce. My bowl was done in literally 2 minutes and the cashier was courteous, so that's a plus.
The dish was a bit on the sour side for me, but overall I enjoyed it. It had me satisfied for the next few hours and the portion sizes were pretty generous. The amount of carrots and cilantro were a bit too much for my liking though.
This venue had an ample amount of seating and there's even happy hour.
Would I be returning in the future? Sure.
extremely disappointed after reading all the reviews. i ordered the pork belly sandwich and i asked for no cilantro. the lady at the counter told me they don't do modifications to their sandwiches, which I find annoying because I just end up throwing all the cilantro away which seems like a waste. i literally cannot stand cilantro and they managed to pack half of the sandwich with the green veggie from hell.
when i bit into the sandwich, the pork was extremely dry. after a few bites, i was dying of thirst. i didn't find it too flavorful either and the bread was a bit stale.
i couldn't finish the entire thing because it was so bad. i went to chinese fast food place down the street right after.
First time trying Numpang sandwich. I got the 5 spices porkbelly sandwich. It was rather small for $9. It wasnt filling. But it was deliciously seasoned and braised, moist and soft. it was topped with crunchy, sweet, and tangy slaw and glazed poach pear. The seatings were rather uncomfortable and the interior made it looked like I was dining in some dead end alley with garbage.
This place has yummy sandwiches. They remind me of Vietnamese sandwiches but with an American fusion twist.
I had a Cambodian coffee with my meal- SUPER strong! It kept me up all night, but it wasn't the most delicious coffee. I think it was slightly more sour and bitter than most coffees I've had.
Quick and easy service with ample seating. Very nice employees and clean interior. Would recommend!
Pleasantly surprised. I ordered a pork belly sandwich. The price is far more than a typical banh but its Manhattan and it is pricey here and dat pork belly doe. The pickles were pretty good too. I want to try the chicken and pulled pork some time :). But for now I'm going to stick to the 5 dollar viet banhs in Brooklyn.
I wasn't planning to go to this place if it wasn't for my friend who was hangry after a bar crawl. My friend was nagging me about getting something to eat, something light and not too filling because we're going to eat dinner later on.
Num Pang was the closest one to us, I've been to their other location in Midtown East and I was in love with the pork belly sandwich. I wanted my friends to try the Pork Belly and Pulled Pork banh mi.
I gotta say that the Pork Belly was better than the pulled pork. Oh btw, please don't ask the restaurant to cut your sandwich in half. Apparently it's against their policy.
Man, I really wished we had something like this in CT.
Quick, tasty and fun renditions on banh mi. I appreciate Num Pang's take on a classic Vietnamese sandwich. Pulled pork, ginger barbeque brisket, roasted chicken chimi — the menu is refreshingly different and surprisingly filling.
We both got a sandwich and a drink. And at first glance, I was ready to devour this sandwich masterpiece. But between the thick cut pork belly, and healthy portions of cucumber, pickled carrots, and cilantro — I was genuinely satisfied. Didn't get a chance to try any of the soups, salads, sides or beverages but honestly, they all sounded heavenly!
BLUF: Proud to say, I've found my go to Vietnamese sandwich spot. Can't go wrong with their delicious Five Spices Glazed Pork Belly.
While doing some spring shopping near Madison square park, my buddies and I decided to check out Num Pang. The shop is small but has plenty of space to sit around the restaurant along the walls.
I went with the five spices because of all the reviews that commended it on Yelp. Without much of a wait, the sandwich came out. It consisted of pork belly, carrots, pickled cucumbers, cilantro, and lettuce all on a hard roll. To start, the meat was extremely tender and the seasoning on it made my mouth water. The roll was also amazing. Freshly baked, it added a crunch to the sandwich. The only thing that was a loss for me was the cilantro which came off a bit too strong but I rarely like cilantro outside of salsa so I'm not a good judge for that.
Ultimately, will be back soon. Thanks guys! Topped off a great spring day.
