  1. I came here after I read an article about the best hot chocolate locations in the city. They have hot chocolate and it can be made with almond milk. However you have to be patient before drinking it, because it's burning hot. They also have dairy free chocolates. I had a piece of Hokey Pokey, it's golden crispy inside, like honeycomb but without the honey. They use golden syrup instead.

Hokey Pokey: "A crunchy candy that we make at our shop from a golden syrup. As it cools we bubble it up so it's slightly more airy than toffee and then we smother it in dark chocolate."

It was a discovery for me, I never knew that I would like honeycomb this much. So I returned home with a box of Hokey Pokey. It's a small store, but they have a nice area to sit and sip your chocolate.

Hot chocolate – Dark (almond milk)
    Size: small, large
    Taste: bittersweet
    Temperature: burning hot, totally undrinkable
    Texture: rich

  2. Cozy little shop that was irresistable on a cold day. Stopped in for a small, rich cup of their signature hot chocolate. Delicious!! Would definitely recommend if you're in the area. Only a couple small tables in the front, and I've seen people camped out there doing work.

  3. Really delicious, smooth chocolates here, albeit a bit pricey. I bought an assortment of 12 so I could try a bunch of flavors. My favorite though, was the double dark chocolate. What can I say? I'm a purist. The caramel centered dark chocolate was also really good – I could taste that homemade caramel flavor which is so mouthwatering.

I also picked up a "frozen" mocha that morning. It wasn't special, I couldn't taste the flavors of either the chocolate (syrup?) or the coffee. Skip that, just get truffles.

  4. I met a long-lost friend here after work one day, and I chose it because I wanted a quiet spot in the Boerum Hill area that would offer coffee drinks OR wine/beer, so she could choose whatever she liked. Done, done and done! Very cute, cozy spot, there was only one other patron there on the Wednesday evening that we went, and the chairs/sofa seating were great to get comfortable and scatter my stuff all over. The barista/chocolatier who served us was really nice, and she served us up a lovely cortado (for me) and mocha (for my friend), both of which were pretty much just the thing on such a on a rainy, windy night. She graciously offered a milk chocolate lollipop heart to us for free because of a tiny, melting-related flaw, and my friend took that one. I think I'll choose the milk chocolate variety next time myself because the white chocolate one I got instead was a little too sweet, even for me. It's super close to the Atlantic Avenue subway terminal, which is along my commute, so I look forward to coming back for more with a friend, my laptop, or a book, Nunu is excellent and delicious for all of it.

  5. This place has a cute menu. They have chocolates that they make in-house, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, wine and beer. It's a nice little selection. The place is very small – only seats about 5 people.

I ordered the salted caramel hot chocolate. It was okay. I wasn't that impressed, honestly. I was expecting it to be much better. It had a light flavor and the chocolate part was good.

I'd like to try one of the chocolates next time. That is clearly their strong point as they had huge orders waiting for pick-up.

  6. Vegan review!

They have dairy-free truffles and bars available: just ask!

I bought the mezcal truffle and beer truffle (some sort of ale, I don't remember), and they were both delicious. They were soft in the center and perfectly rich. The beer one was great but the mezcal was my favorite. It was spicy but not overwhelmingly so. The chocolate was still the star.

  7. The chocolate chai is definitely worth checking out.  It was a nice blend of "spicy" and sweet.  I tried my friends' spicy hot chocolate and regular hot chocolate.  They were good, but it wasn't anything special.  Overall, Nunu offered a cozy spot for us to get out of the cold and enjoy a warm beverage and chit-chat.

We didn't order any of their chocolate bars, which is what they are known for – so I guess I'll have to come back!

  8. Lapin and I came stopped by one Saturday afternoon for a sweet treat. The cozy store was empty and seemed a bit chaotic. Perhaps, they were preparing for a huge shipment because I didn't see any seating areas so we took our hot chocolate to go. The cashier was okay but didn't really engaged with us. The hot chocolate was okay, I tend to like my hot chocolates more sweet chocolate that cocoa chocolate tasting. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have sugar or whipped cream to add to the hot chocolate as well. We got a couple of boxes of chocolates, which were okay but not worth the price in my opinion.
