  1. Really good dosas. thiru knows what he's doing, I asked for all the filling separately since I wanted my dosa crispy and he did a really good job and the taste was very authentic. He also gives a chutney, rasam with sambar veggies and salad with the lunch option, all for 7$. He's inside the Washington square park, at the Sullivan cross street. Def check him out when you are craving good South Indian food.

  2. Voted as one of the best food carts in NYC, this small cart is located just at the corner of the beautiful Washington Square and next to NYU – open only for 5 hours (11-4) you should come early as food gets over fairly quickly due to the high demand. The menu options are limited but delicious to say the least. We tried the Masala and samosa dosa and it definitely made us nostalgic and miss home! The owner is very nice and cordial and even though had limited food he made sure we got the last bit of the sambar he had left. Seems like he had a lot of regulars. Try the amazing mint chutney as well! If you are a street food fanatic definitely try this one!

  3. On point. For the price this Dosa can't be beat. I came one time late in the afternoon and was told it was sold out. So I was determined to get one another time. Came with my dog on a Tuesday afternoon and sure enough it was there right next to the dog park with no line. There is enough food to feed two people. Though be careful with the spicy. I ordered the Pondicherry dosa since it was the most popular. Be sure to eat it fresh because it taste so much better. Every bite was flavorful along with the potatoes and the crepe was so yummy when mixed with the toppings inside. Though I was not a fan of the sauces

  4. My first Dosa experience. I got the pondicherry with less potatoes and extra vegetables, medium spicy. It was a little hard to eat because everything sort of fell apart when I picked it up and I think what makes it special is the batter itself -it was light and airy and flavorful. The fillings were just your run of the mill potatoes and salad mix (peppers, greens, onions, ginger).

Best thing was the coconut chutney though. Damnnnn.

  5. If I lived or worked closer to Washington Square Park, I think I would become a regular.

The samosas was huge and stuffed with curry potatoes.  They were still crispy 2hrs later, when I ate half of a samosa at home.  I like the green sauce that came with it. The sauce wasn't very overpowering.  At 2 for $5, it was a pretty good deal.

Pondicherry $7 – I really like the crepe.  It was so soft, and quite substantial.  I didn't care for the vegetable/salad filling.  There was too much onions.  Next time, I might just order a Sadha (plain) crepe, or the Masala (potato) crepe.  The medium spicy was okay, it was only a tiny hint of spicy.

  6. One of my favorite street finds in New York! We were walking around the park when we stumbled upon the NY Dosas cart. First and foremost, hats off to the gentleman who runs this. It was very obvious that he has regulars as they came up to order almost immediately after he was done setting up. He already knew some of their orders and was really accommodating in taking special requests, etc.

We actually weren't even that hungry, but I can't pass up a chance to eat a dosa so my boyfriend and I got the Pondicherry Dosa to share. The owner told us it would take about 20 minutes for him to get it ready, which was fine with us.

The dosa itself was absolutely delicious with a golden flaky crust. The chutney and sambar were tasty as well. If you're a fan of spicy food, you'll definitely like the sambar! I'd recommend getting just a plain dosa if you're not too hungry but the Pondicherry Dosa made for a really filling meal since it's stuffed with potatoes and other vegetables. The size of the dosa is fairly large too, enough for two to share.

If I lived in NY, I'd definitely become one of NY Dosa man's frequent customers. I highly recommend checking this cart out to others!

  7. i always come hunting for this place and invariably come up empty, but today, i arrived early enough that the dosa cart was still fired up.

ordered the pondicherry dosa, spicy  (which just means more mulagapodi, which is a spicy powder in peanut oil). the dosa was big, brown and super crispy. the filling is pretty aggressive, on top of the potato curry theres onion cilantro peppers carrots that add a fuckload of kick. and all for like 7 dollars, plus a dollar for the water. do yourself a favor and get the water instead of a soda, which just makes it hotter on your tongue.

then i layed back at the park and ate it on the lawn. im not exactly sure why they gave me a spoon for. personally the spicy level is normal for me, but if you arent south indian, i dont recommend it. honestly i could eat another one they are so good hahah…much better than a lot of restaurants frankly. and in nyc its ultra hard to get quality, unamericanized indian food, and so for that, ny dosas is a kickass shoe-in 5 star spot.

  8. What can I say that hasn't already been said? The food (especially the samosas) are incredible, and the man is a saint! My girlfriend texts him all the time in advance to make sure that we'll get food before he runs out in the early afternoon.
