O Cafe is a cool little coffee shop on the corner of 6th avenue in the west village / union square neighborhood. I've been here several times. The coffee is good and the food menu is limited and a bit expensive but they do have some good items. The avocado toast is a do it yourself avocado toast which is Not your typical… The ricotta toast is very good! ricotta cheese with pumpkin seeds and honey…Yum! The Brazilian cheese puffs or as they call them Pão de Queijo is worth trying. It's also gluten free. The frittatas are served cold so I recommend asking them to warm it if you plan to eat it then and there. Overall it's a good coffee shop to get a quick bite.
Yes. The reviews are right. There is a distinct, not-so-charming smell of cheese that hits your nostrils upon entering. A plain croissant and latte cost me $8. More expensive than most cafes. The croissant is fried with an oil different from most bakeries; it's strong and overpowering. A croissant should taste of dough and butter, not weird grease. I won't get it again.
I was feelin the plant explosion walls. Wasn't feeling the smell and prices.
Stopped by with a girlfriend before she had to head to class and while I wanted to enjoy this place, I didn't find it very impressive. The spot is gorgeous, with lots of plants and unique tableware, but when I was there the ENTIRE cafe was filled with the scent of cheese. And a pungent cheese at that. Made me desperate to get out of there.
I ordered a chai latte and my friend got an iced bahia. Didn't take too long to get our orders and considering the hour it was surprising that they made them so quickly, but I didn't think my latte was very good. Tasted a bit watery. I've discovered that a lot of the places that specialize in coffee don't do chai very well. I tasted my friend's drink and it was interesting, sort of reminiscent of a dirty chai? That probably isn't a good description, but it's the closest comparison I can think of as I'm not the hugest coffee drinker. My friend comes here often and she said that she enjoys their matcha latte's and their acai bowls, and as someone who loves both of those things I intend to try them the next time I'm able.
I really enjoy the organic and healthy vibes that O gives off. The dishes look as if they were made by people (as opposed to a machine), there's a compost can, the paper products are biodegradeable, and they have a menu that's vegan friendly. I definitely recommend O CAFE, but more for their coffee than their tea.
Wooof! Almost $4 for a terribly burned brew of cold coffee!! I usually take my coffee straight up but found myself doctoring it up with milk and sugar. And it still tasted awful :/
AVOID.
There was so much potential here, specially being part of the CUPS app plan, but they blew it.
My coffee was good.
I asked for a cold brew with no ice and the barista refused to fill it to the top.
He was also too busy playing on his phone. My friend's cortado was bitter, but they did not seem to care.
The snacks are good but very overpriced.
They will ignore you if you order them in Portuguese apparently, so don't waste your money here. The baked goods are good but not worth what they are charging you. THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE SIDE OF ATTITUDE THAT YOU GET WHEN ORDERING THEM EITHER.
The pāo de queijo is very small but I liked them.
The brigadeiros were good also but not worth wasting your money on. (btw you can make these in the microwave with condensed milk, cocoa powder and love lol)
The pāo de mel is good and almost fairly priced.
Definitely don't waste your money on the biscoito de polvilho/vento (aka yucca snack), because you can seriously get a huge bag of it for the same price of the tiny "palm full" that you get here. Don't be fooled.
They should definitely get the attitude in check. Making Brazilians look bad.
Don't pretend that you can't understand me in Portuguese, then deliberately answer the phone in Portuguese. DUDE I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU. What the hell. R-U-D-E.
I can't really think of much more to say than "it's a quality boutique coffee house in NYC." If that's what you're looking for, you've found it.
Nice relaxing decor, excellent coffee… pastries. There were a few freelance types tapping on laptops the morning I went in so I assume Wifi is available, though I didn't check myself.
As an added bonus they accept the Cups app which pleases me greatly since they have a minimum on cards. Which annoys me to no end for some reason. I just don't like carrying coins! Why does buying a coffee have to come with $0.83 in coins!
Very good chai latte, spicy and not too sweet, just the way I like it. The latte was a bit warmer then lukewarm, so no burnt tongues if you drink too fast!
There's plenty of power sockets along the walls for people who want to work on their laptops, or someone who desperately needs to charge their phone. I generally fall into the latter category.
Like other reviewers have already stated, there is a weird odor that lingers in this cafe. The smell hit me the moment I walked in. There was a decent amount of people sitting, so I thought it was just me who was smelling a chlorine mop stench.
If I'm in the neighborhood, I would stop by for another chai latte, to go.
I think this place should be called O Sh*t Cafe instead, as I paid $5.05 for one iced coffee today. Are you KIDDING me?? I said, "Wow, that's a lot of money for an iced coffee." She replied, "Yeah, it's because our cold brew is really popular." So I guess that means because it's really popular, they're going to overcharge us. Had I known and had more time, I would've gone elsewhere. And in all honesty–and I love me some coffee–it wasn't even all that great. She didn't shake the almond milk or stir it in my cup so it didn't mix well. And she charged me an *additional* .25 for it! Certainly no better than lots of other cold brew coffee. And for over five bucks, it should come with a lap dance or something. I will not return to this overpriced cafe, and would encourage you to find another, more reasonably priced, place as well. One that isn't taking advantage of their customers simply because something they sell is appealing to folks. Come on. Please.
